I have the one pictured above. it just doesn't seem to cream butter and sugar to a fluffy creamy constituency like my old hand held electric beaters used to. Any suggestions?

Hi Sue, a couple of things may be contributing here; are you using the Flat Beater, Flex Edge Beater or Wire Whisk for this and how long are you running the Stand Mixer for? Have you had a look at the beater to bowl clearance of your Stand Mixer? If you check the guide here on page 7 you can find instructions; https://kitchenaid.com.au/sites/default/files/5KSM160PSAWH.pdf

Stand Mixer

HI There,
I am planning to buy kitchen aid mixer but confuse with the model and which one is performing better. Can you tell me the difference model of KSM 156, KSM 160, and SKM 170? Any difference in Kitchen Aid Artisan and Platinum?
Thanks

Hi Julya, there is no difference in performance of the machines, they all have the same motor. The KSM156 and KSM170 are the same, you will notice on our website the KSM 156 is no longer available. The difference between the KSM170 and the KSM160 is the paint finish and accessories, the KSM170 has a double coat platinum finish and a glass bowl, whilst the KSM160 has a 4.8L Stainless Steel bowl, a 2.8L Stainless Steel bowl and a pouring shield. If you have any further questions we are happy to help. Kind Regards, The KitchenAid Team

KSM170

Hi, Im trying to decide which model to buy and have noticed that the stainless steel bowls are not suitable for the 170. Why is this? Also the dimensions for the 160 is slightly different than 156 or 170 (which are the same)

1 answer
KitchenAid
Belle AKitchenAid

Hi Kaz, The KSM156 and KSM170 are exactly the same machine, we are currently streamlining model code to eliminate this confusion. The difference between the KSM156/170 and the KSM160 is the paint finish and accessories, the KSM156/170 has a premium double coat finish, whilst the KSM160 has a second 2.8L bowl and a pouring shield. All Tilt-Head designed accessories and attachments will fit all three of these models, so stainless steel will sit in the KSM170 and glass will fir the KSM160, so if you purchase the KSM156/170 you can also purchase the stainless steel and use it. If you have any other question we are happy to help! Kind Regards, The KitchenAid Team

Why is it that the KitchenAid has only a 300 watt motor but other stand mixers have a 1100 watt motor?

Hi, The KitchenAid Stand Mixers are designed with power saving engineering so they only draw the power required to run the machine, unlike other brands which are not as energy efficient. We hope this helps, The KitchenAid Team

Interesting one... I have used other mixers before and since using the KitchenAid (not even realising the difference in the motor watts) I haven't had any issues with performance of the machine. If anything I find it a little quieter than some others.

Hi, if i purchase the kitchenaid artisan mixer, does it slice, grate and mince as well as the kitchenaid food processor? I saw the demo video online that it can crush ice too. Is that true?

Hi Caroline, our Mixer's themselves do not do the things you have listed, but our attachments which you can purchase and use with the Stand Mixer certainly can. From what you have asked I can recommend the food processor attachment, the slicer/shredder attachment and the mincer/grinder attachment. You can find all of these and more on our website here; https://kitchenaid.com.au/products/stand-mixer-attachments

KSM150 Artisan

I have an Artisan 5KSM150 which has a brownish substance leaking/seeping from the head of the unit particularly around the silver nameband & from where the spindle that the beater attaches to goes into the top of the mixer. It has an oil appearance, but doesn't have an oily feel.
The unit has always been cleaned throughly before being stored & has been in storage for a year or so. There is no unusual noise.
As I live a substantial distance from the closest service centre, I'm hoping you could give me an idea of where to start.
Thanks in advance

This sounds like gear grease leaking. When the mixer is under heavy use or after a period of storage, the grease on the gears (at the top of the unit) separates and the thinner material can run out at the lowest point. It won't affect use as long as the gears don't sound grinding or noisy, there's a LOT of grease packed in there!
Just give it a good run at different speeds for around ten minutes and be sure to start at low speed. Do this before you use it under load to distribute grease through all of the gears. After you done this wipe everything down really well and it should be fine. It may continue to leak a small amount but as long as it's not a huge amount, there shouldn't be any problems.
If it persists and/or it affects use, you can have the gears repacked with grease. If you need to save the money and it's out of warranty (and you know someone a bit mechanically minded), there's a good instructional YouTube video on how to do it yourself, just google 'repacking grease KitchenAid mixer'.
Hope this helps (and no, I don't represent KitchenAid, just a happy long term owner).
