Robot Vacuum Cleaners Buying Guide
Our buying guide will explain which type of robot vacuum cleaner would suit you most, how much you can expect to pay for one, and which features are worth looking out for.
Terrible
Paid over $600 for this. It is useless at cleaning the floors. Will go over and over the same room 5 times and say it's out of battery and needs to recharge heads home and spends 15 minutes looking for its dock and then usually dies. We get it and put it on its dock ourselves and an hour later it starts up and cleans the same room again! It constantly rides up the door tracks and gets stuck. Now it just sits in the corner and collects dust. More trouble than it is worth.

Cherry has been helpful over the years. I would recommend.
I bought this vacuum in April 2014 and have used it a few times a week since then. I have affectionately called her Cherry. As with all robotic vacuums, your floor must be clean from toys, cables and other objects that can stop Cherry in her tracks. The suction is quite good and so much so that Cherry once sucked up a phone charger and ate it all! When she gets stuck, she talks to let you know then locates where she got stuck and works the rest of the area to be vacuumed before going to her home charger.
Initially Cherry would not cover the ...Read more
entire area and would cheat and go back to her charging station. However, she has improved over the years and now vacuums everything before going to charge. I have not done anything different except I do keep my house clear of obstacles, so I am not sure how she figured out how to improve. Over the years I feel like the suction has deteriorated but Cherry came with a spare filter and a few other replacement parts and I plan to change the filter and see whether that improves the suction. Having dog hair everywhere - Cherry really helps to keep my home clean. The areas she covers are all different, from wood, to tile and thick carpet and she goes over them all without a problem. I love how she can access those hard to reach areas such as under coffee tables. I love Cherry and wouldn't hesitate to purchase another robotic cleaner from LG or another brand once Cherry's life is extinguished and she has gone to the big vacuum in the sky.Similar opinion? Doesnt vaccum floors
Not Happy. Received as a xmas gift. It starts off, vacs for 3 mins, tells me its complete, takes 15 mins to find dock, tells me it cant find it and we put it on manually. Ive had the round green one and it was fabulous. It just died one day and that was it, we couldnt afford another one.Mum and dad bought this for us for xmas, cost a fortune for them. They are in their 80s and pensioners. Wanted us to have this to make our lives easier. So extremely disappointed and dont know how to tell them it doesnt work.

I can see why it has been discontinued
This is supposed to be a smart vacumn, it's not. It is supposed to map the house so it knows where it is going but it continually get lost, it very rarely can find the home station. It constantly gets stuck on things that it shouldn't get stuck on, a corner of the room, a stool base. It cleans well but I wouldn't recommend it. Stick with a cheaper model. Disappointed.

Awesome time saver
Our robot vacuum is called Little Guy and we love it! It is on every day and sometimes twice a day and I couldn't be happier with its performance. We used to drink our morning coffee watching it but now we just get on with our life while he does all the work. They don't like cords much and will let you know if the wheels are caught on something. Just make sure you keep the brushes and dust bin clean and it will keep on working for years.

As dumb as a box of hammers and less reliable.
I have had my Roboking for 2 years now. It has broken down 5 times. It has had multiple traction motor failures. It has nearly spent as much time at the repair centre as it has at our place.
It regularly starts cleaning, does a 360 degree circle and then declares itself finished and then announce that it "can't find the home station".
It has driven into an empty room and gotten stuck in the corner.
When it manages to do a clean it does a good job. But these are too far between. Given this machine cost about $1000 I am extremely disappointed. Especially given it sits broken in my living room again!

Fatal Design Flaws
Robot vacuum's have a number of features surprising to the first time buyer. For example they do a better job than you manually vacuuming, mostly because go over every spot multiple times. Most have tiny dirt bins, meaning you have to empty them often, which becomes a chore. Most have automatic schedules, so you can come home to a clean house without touching a button. All of them understandably get stuck on toys, cords and other stuff they can't see and even the smartest seemingly suffer from dementia, trapping themselves because they can't fi...Read more
nd the doorway they came in via a few minutes earlier. Some also offer remote controls, beep or talk to you, have WiFi and inbuilt displays. It makes choosing very hard. Having owned robot vacuums for several years now, I've decided the only thing that makes the cost, the frustrations of the empty dirt tiny bin and releasing it from tangles and chair legs worthwhile is whether it takes less of my time than vacuuming the house myself. What that means is the Roboking being wonderfully quiet, looking stylish, leaving the floor it passes over clean, and even having a friendly human voice to tell you when it needs help count for nought. What matters is when the Roboking gets stuck, it eventually powers down and thus forgets what it has done so far. At that point your options are to tell it to restart from the beginning (trying to be more vigilant when it gets stuck), or give up and vacuum the entire house yourself. Maybe that would not be so bad if it had a weekly schedule, so you could tell it to vacuum only when you are home - say Monday morning, Wednesday afternoons and skip Fridays entirely. But you can only set a single time of day and it vacuums every day at that time. Maybe it would help if you could tell it to avoid problematic areas of the house where it is prone to getting stuck, but you can't. Even giving the occasional cry for help when it's stuck would help so you don't have to explore the entire house when it is missing but no, when it shuts down it also shuts up. I bought this vacuum to replace a Neato which had it more than it's fair share of flaws, one of which is underrated components leading to an overheating chip that eventually killed it. It's life may have been too short, it was very loud and suffered all the usual robo vac flaws. I can't count the number of times it required help to get through its round. Nonetheless it always did get through its round and thus it always vacuumed the house so I didn't have to. Unfortunately the Roboking works as it's manufacturer intended, which means that despite it not working for me, I can't return it.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Good Product, great if it is more lasting
We have both bamboo and carpet flooring. I bought my Roboking VR6270LVM from South Korea via ebay in 2013. It was one of the best help around the house I could get. It is perfect for the bamboo floor but one must ensure the floor is free of tangling wires. I had a phone charger being pulled along when I was careless once. For the carpet floor, the dust collection bin has to be emptied after each room as the bin is quite small and we had new wool carpet so it was not that ideal but still good. Now, more than two years down the track, I start to ...Read more
have some problem with the Roboking. Sometimes, it returns to its charging station half-way through the floor though the battery indicator showed that the battery is charged. And it gets stuck regularly in certain spots where it was moving freely before. This product has given me two years of problem free usage. It is a good product but it will be great if it could last longer.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
The model I can live without.
This is the second one I have had in 18months which has now been repaired twice since January, same problem. Gets stuck and only cleans a small spot. Harvey Norman have been very good as when I took it for the third time today they have said they will refund my money. I haven't had any luck with LG. I wont be buying another from LG.

great for only about 6 month
As I bought it it was great.and I had the round one bevore and was so in love for more as 3 years! This one now is a pain.it cleans well when it runs but most of the time it stops for nothing. tells you to remove material but there is nothing.so you always on the go to look for him.with the Harvey Norman warranty i send it for repair.they update it and cleaned it and it worked for maybe 3 times and now he is a pain again.so I will wait for the new model and get it replaced. until than I have to put up with this there is no other option. because they don't know how to fix it.

Good for 8 months, then broken down - support dreadful
I brought 2 of these in January 2014 and for 8 months they were 5 star, could not fault them. Then one started to get lost and spin on the floor on the spot. It was returned for warranty, took weeks to repair, but got it back and it works perfectly ever since.
Several week later, the second developed the same fault. Returned for repair and 6 months later I still do not have a working replacement.
The service centre had the unit for months and could not fix it, eventually this year they replaced it with a new one, but it was faulty straight fr...Read more

Should've Bought This Ages Ago
I did a lot of research on robo vacs as there are so many out there all claiming to be superior to the others. This met our needs as it was within our price range, did what we needed it to do (and more) and comes standard with a 2 year warranty. After the initial charge I did a full vacuum of the house on zig zag mode and despite trying to eat the extension cord it did a brilliant job!! I swept the floor afterwards and couldn't pick up any dirt at all. I then did some manual vacuuming using the remote control and it surprised me how user frien...Read more
dly it was and how easy it was to steer. We only have hard floors and have no need for turbo mode but tried it anyway and while a little noisier still not that loud. We'd definitely be able to sleep through it and would be happy using the scheduling function at night time. It picked up all the pet hair with ease (we have 2 small dogs that live inside) plus the dirt they traipse in as well as general dirt we traipse inside from walking across the garden. Definitely pleasantly surprised!!!Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Broke down after 1 month
Purchased this robot and was initially very happy. After less than 4 weeks of use, it required x repairs, and 3 weeks later I am still waiting for it to be returned due to parts not being available on Australia. After spending so much money on this top of the line vacuum, I'm very disappointed with the after sales service and would have expected it to be replaced considering it was only 3 weeks old.

load of rubbish
i wasted $1000.00 of hard earned money I am on my second vaccume both have done the same thing always bashing into everything, stopping for nothing in the middle of the floor, always telling me to clean out wheels where there was nothing cant always find home station ruining my skirting boards just a pain but when it works it is fine not too often though

Rubbish, doesn't work after twelve months
We purchased our "supposedly" top of the line LG Roboking vacuum in November 2013, and paid for an extra twelve months warranty so we have three years in total. For the twelve months until December 2014 it worked a treat cleaning but the robot has scuffed up all of our skirting boards and furniture due to the black rubber band around the body. Then in late December 2014 it continuously started to go around objects that weren't there in the house, the robot also keeps asking us to clean sensors which we have numerous times, it is unable to fi...Read more
nd the home station and numerous times we would come home and had to search for the vacuum as it would not be on the home station and the battery was flat. It would also get stuck on nothing saying that there was something under the wheel and there was nothing there. It also started to fail it's diagnostic test and would say take it to LG for repair. Unfortunately for us the day that I reported this to LG the only authorised repair agent within Townsville had shut down on the same day. I had to inform LG that their Townsville service centre had closed down as they had no idea. After providing all warrenty information initially we were told by an overseas call representative that we would need to drive it 400kms to cairns. I was not happy with this response after paying $1000 for a vacuum that was only twelve months old and told the operator this. I was then told that I had to search around for a non authorised repair agent within our area and email the details to LG for LG to liaise direct with the repairer. Conclusion: I am still looking for repairer it has been 11 days since initial contact and due to to the call centre being overseas we are getting minimal communication with LG and LG refuse to tell us the process with repair under warranty since the autherised agent shut down. In hindsight I would not purchase an LG Roboking again due to the high initial money out lay and extremely poor after sales service. Very disappointingSimilar opinion? Great at what it does, good for lazy people!
If you're like me and can't be bothered pulling out the vacuum every time your floor requires cleaning, definitely get one of these! This little guy has made my life so much easier. All I need to do is set the timer to clean whilst I am gone to work and I come back with everything done. Ok a few things to point out this is only good for dust, hair and small particles. It is kind of expensive but the time and energy saved is definitely worth it.

Does the job but watch out for objects
I made the mistake of buying it on ebay not knowing I get something delivered from Korea. Once unpacked it was all in Korean even the voice. Downloaded a PDF manual from the Australian Website and learned what each button is. Now we get entertained just by its Korean announcements. Other then that it does a better job then some of the Samsung's I had . It does get stuck unfortunately quite often under things since it is a bit higher then a Roomba. And it doesn't get that feet are not to be rolled on. But overall happy especially it gets the hair from our dog every day.

Awesome machine
We decided to treat ourselves with this robot vac for Christmas.
We have 3 small children and I was sweeping several times a day (hating to drag out the big vacuum each time the kids eat).
I wasn't sure what to expect, but this machine is amazing and has totally taken away any need for me to sweep my floors.
It is quiet and efficient, doesn't bug or worry the kids, although they do enjoy chasing after it and trying to press the buttons (thank goodness for child lock!).
We have mostly hardwood floors, but carpets in the bedrooms. It is ama...Read more

Surprisingly effective
My husband wanted to buy a robot vacuum as we have a large inside dog who likes to share her fur around. I didn't as I thought it was just gimmicky. I humoured him by looking into it, and we decided to give it a go. We were recommended the LG over the iRobot as a far superior thing based on the kind of technology it uses alone.
So far, it has exceeded my expectations. We run it every couple of days and the floor is devoid of dog hair most of the time. It doesn't struggle with the hair at all. We do have laminate floors throughout but it does...Read more
n't have any trouble with the couple of mats we have. It has a tendency to get stuck in the same couple of spots, but we know about these now and know to watch out for them. I sew and I made a couple of 'snakes' (like heavy draft stoppers) which we use to prevent him going into certain areas or keep him away from cables. We had one issue - the lid wouldn't open after a couple of months, and if you managed to prise it open, it wouldn't close again. Sent off to the local authorised repairer via Harvey Norman, was back in a couple of weeks - they had even replaced all the sensors which wasn't the issue, so just like having a fresh machine! I would especially recommend this for parents of young children - your floors will stay clean for crawlers without having to spend time vacuuming. I'm sold!Similar opinion? Wonderfully quiet and efficient
After a poor experience with iRobot, this is a wonderful machine - so quiet and thorough and has no problem with fluffy rugs or skirting boards. Doesn't smash into things the way iRobot did or get tangled in cords and has different cleaning patterns including being able to designate the cleaning space ( although takes a bit of time to set up so don't use it as much now). Still do a proper vacuum n ow and then but not as much as with the iRobot as this one is more efficient and the dust container is sealed and washable. Also doesn't freak the cats out like the other one did so better all round - very pleased with this lovely machine!
