I just bought a 2013 xtrail auto.
it has no manual with it though...
there are 3 options on the gear (in front of the p,n,r auto stick) ..
the dial has 2x2, auto and 4x4 on it. I know when to use 4x 4 .. around town, should i be in 2 x2 or auto please?
1 answer
Hi Kaz,
Leave the setting on 'Auto' around town as the car by default uses 2WD and will use / brake 4 wheels as needed i.e. in an emergency manoeuvre or front wheels start slipping.
Recently updated my X-Trail to latest T32, was very happy with my old T31 X-trail.

Would you buy a X Trail with 200k on the clock? What’s the life like on these cars?

depends what year & model
Fair enough - Lets say a 2005ST T30 II, I'm looking at it second hand with 170,000kms on the clock
Our first '05 ST lasted to 250,000 Km's with no significant issues. Replaced perished rocker gasket at 240,000 Km's, the shocks were completely spent, we'd changed all 4 wheel bearings by this time, and right at the end there we noticed a slight crack in the transfer case. I would be paying attention to these areas of interest. Of course, buying something with a solid service history at this age is a must, also consider if the vehicle has been used to tow a van, and if in doubt, get it checked out by a trusted mechanic.

I want to use my radio at the drive inns, how do I stop it from turning off.
1 answer
I would have thought you just press the start button without applying the brake. Then turn on the radio .
It will turn off if you leave the car with key in your pocket. I must say last time I went to the drive in I wound down the window and stuck that big speaker on the glass LoL If all else fails go talk tour local Nissan dealer. Or if there is an X-trail at the drive inn ask the driver for advice.

Is it good idea to buy 2016 Xtrail 2.5 fwd with 97000km on it?

First of all, it must come back with the price. But in my opinion, just 2 or 3 years of car, it runs a bit more than average. Also, consider the cost of services, would be on a higher stage now. and most probably you will find if you 'd like to pay 1 or 2 grand more, you will get a car under 60k, I guess. Hope this helps.
Thank you for your suggestion, what service cost should I except if I go with it, in case I don’t find any. I am getting it for Aud 17k now.
No its a bad idea buy a 4wd Not a FWD

Go for the 4x4 st t31 you can switch between 2wd AWD & 4wd i just leave mine in AWD & let the computer work it out They are great handling on the road & off road. go for the petrol version Diesels are dearer to service but no difference in performance great suv
go for the 4x4 petrol you can drive it in 2wd if you want Diesels are dearer to service
Wow that's perfect thankyou both for you're responses. I noticed that the fuel is suggesting 9.1L/100 for petrol, but is this realistic for city driving? Just wondering how thirsty these vehicles really are.

Trying to decide between a 2014 Honda CRV, 2014 Mazda CX5 and a 2014 Nissan Xtrail. Any thoughts?

Hi mate - I'd suggest you compare service history, km's, general condition & of course get a mechanical check. Besides my own 2018 model I've only driven my son's 2015 ST 2.5lt, which impressed me enough that I bought mine. I'd avoid the 2lt engine & go for the 2.5lt, which is far superior, but then again it depends what sort of driving you'll be doing. Here's a link to a website that tested the 2014 X-Trail, I hope it helps you. The X-Trails are the biggest selling SUV in the world & 3rd in Oz, & they have a reputation for durability & reliability. Good luck with your decision. Cheers, David

Thanks so much for that David. I've previously had a T30 Ti that did us well and so am leaning towards the T32 anyway but have heard lots of good stuff about the other two as well. Test drives and mechanical checks coming up!
