Doesn’t worth for the price
The shaver itself is great, however the smart clean system is waste of money. Use the shaver for just over 2 years and less than 5 time of smart clean system used. The clean system already had problem with pumping up liquid to clean the shaverhead. Brand new cartridge and problem not solved. It seems like I have spent $500 for the shaver itself.
Purchased in December 2021 at Shaver Shop Online store for A$500.00.

Worse razor i have ever used
I have used a cheaper phillips razor which cost me around $65. After many faithfull years of great service and pretty good shaves I decided to spead up on a top of the range model razor again from Phillips. A Pillips 9000. The sales person assured me it was a great shaver with multipull cutting angles. So because i was so happy with my old razor, a cheaper Phillips i spent the $300 odd dollars on this razor whick was on special. Worse thing i ever done hardly cuts a nights grow of my face no matter how long i shave for. I'll never buy another phillips again. And you my say did i give it a fair chance. Well is a year and a half a long enough chace. Thumbs down to this crappy Phillips 9000 razor.

Thanks i will ring customer service, and see what they have to say.
Well i have to say thumbs up to Phillips. They seen i was unsatisfied and customer service helped me sort things out. They sent a new type of blade to try out in my razor. works great now. I love it so much. Thanks guys

Not impressed on two counts!!
Firstly I have to fully agree with most of the other reviews, "out of the box the shaver was great, then after 2 months of daily use the blades are blunt", so much for lasting an average of 2 years!!
Secondly, I'm writing a review here as a last resort, as I have contacted the Philips Consumer Care on 2 occasions over the past 2 months with no reply other than the automated "we will be contacting you shortly" reply.

Discusting! don`t buy this 9000 series
As you can see from the many previous reviews, the blades are absolutely useless on this shaver! Straight out of the box the blades seemed ok, but after only 2 months you may as well rub your face with a scotch brite pad, as these blades don`t work at all and the shaver just gives you a rash. I`m 60 years of age and this is my third Philips, the previous 2 being a quality product which lasted up to 16 years, with blade changes only every 2 - 3 years . As I will not buy another set of blades for this new 9000 series shaver, I have now had to resort to using my old Philips shaver with 3 year old blades, which in fact still work much better than the 2 month old 9000 series blades.

Blades are very poor quality and after sales service is even worse
My 4 month series 9000 has blades that are that blunt that they tear hair from my face and leave me in a rash. After contact Philips customer service line I was told clearly that blades are not covered under warranty. I explained that the manual mentions for optimum performance the blades should be changed every 2 years and these are only 4 months old. It was explained that it was only a guideline and I should not set my calendar to it (nice condescending person from Philips) and once again the blades are not covered by warranty. So it looks li...Read more
ke I am up for new blades every 4 months at a cost of $90 dollars a pop or $270 dollars a year. I have owned many Philips shavers and always had good service, looks like their quality has dramatically dropped and the loophole of blades are not covered by warranty is their escape route. Do not buy a Philips, they do not back their product or do proper quality control before releasing to the public.1 comment

Philips Quality Goes Down The Drain
After using Philips shavers for many successful years, I had the misfortune to buy a S9161 in June 2016 it was good for the first couple of months but then the blades began to get blunt and have steadily got to the point that they are now useless, I went back to the shaver shop in Joondalup where I bought it where the guy agreed that 6 months use for a set of blades is ridiculous but the blades are not covered by warranty and he could sell me a new head for $130 obviously Philips have drastically dropped their standards and are now using the ch...Read more
eapest materials they can find, obviously the blades cost them very little to manufacturer so come on Philips if the blades are only worth $10 then sell them at that price otherwise the shaver goes in the bin and I go back to wet shaving but not with Philips.12 comments

Complete rubbish - cutters last 3-4 months before needing replacing
Got this for Fathers Day 2015. Heads are supposed to last up to 2 years: in reality about 3 months - after 6 months it just makes noise.
Had Philips shavers for nearly 30 years and the quality has been good until now. $550 straight + $90 every few months for cutters and its money down the drain.
If Philips had any integrity or simply wanted to salvage their reputation they need to either recall this product or cut the cost of the replacement heads to around $10-$15 range to compensate consumers.
So this 30 year+ customer is now looking at another brand and likely to never come back.

Great for 2 months
I have always used Philips shavers. My last one was a HQ8240. I used about three sets of heads on this shaver and when the last set of heads started getting dull I thought that as the shaver was getting a bit of age on it, I would buy a new model. I never had any problems with the HQ8240.
So out I went and bought a S9161 for about $300. This shaver has been the biggest pain to me. For a couple of months the shaver worked ok and since then has been losing its sharpness at a steady rate so that now it is impossible to get a close shave. I still...Read more

and I replied that it would be a waste of time as there is no warranty on the blades. The chap then said as a goodwill gesture he would send me a set of new heads. These arrived a couple of days later and I then fitted them. The shave was then brilliant. Unfortunately these heads have now gone exactly blunt as per the originals. A set of new blades cost approx $100. I will try a set of cheap Chinese heads from ebay, they can't be much worse and thet are less than $30. It is all a pity as when the blades are good it is a terrific shaver.Philips S.Philips

Unacceptable lack of quality
As many others have said, the orange retention clips have busted after 10 months of weekly shaves. I discovered this after spending $80 on new blades. Out of a top price shaver this is lack of quality unacceptable. I wish I had seen this reviews page before buying so I could save myself the hassle, and stayed well away from philips and the 9000 series

Questions & Answers
Tomasked
I bought a new 9000 series shaver for my disabled son. He currently shaves every second day but will need to increase to daily before long. It is easy for him to use, for shaving. But the cleaning is a bit too complicated for him. He cannot take apart the clean the heads, so just puts the shaver straight into the smart clean system. How long can we expect each fluid cartridge to last and how do we know when it needs to be changed? Is this satisfactory, or do I need to disassemble the head into the 3 cutters and 3 guards and manually clean the heads as well? We want him to be as independent as possible, even if that means that he will end up using more of the cartridges than the average user. Is it Ok for him to do nothing more than place the shaver into the smart clean system after use and just change the fluid cartridge when required?

My SmartClean pro has stopped working. When I plug it in and put the shaver in it, the orange arrows flash and I can't turn it on. I know the orange lights are supposed to indicate that the cleaning fluid is empty, but mine is still over half full and I have hardly used it. I tried removing the cleaning fluid canister and replacing it, but the problem persists. The shaver itself is fine. Please help

Hello Geoff, thank you for your inquiry. A flashing orange light is indeed indicative of there not being enough cleaning fluid but it sounds like there is enough fluid left.
