Sea Princess has lifted their standards
My wife and myself sailed on the Sea Princess in 2016 and were very disappointed with all aspects of the cruise but decided to give Princess Cruises a second chance to see if anything had changed in 2 years. We just got back from the 14 night New Zealand cruise on 10th Jan 2022 and could not fault a thing. The quality of the service, food and hygiene had dramatically improved. The organisation on and off the ship for shore tours was first class. We have done other cruises with other companies but this was by far the best cruise we have been on. Congratulations Sea Princess for reading past reviews and making changes to improve your customers holidays.

No air conditioning in cabin for 11 nights 10 days,
Christmas cruise fron hell. No air con, only boiling water in shower, took 4 days to fix. Air con was not fixed.. Two serious counts of failure in DUTY of CARE.

Sun Princess has really gone down hill.
Jumbuck - you said it all to perfection and covered all I would have said!! We were very disappointed in our last Cruise ( left on 16th Dec. to Tasmania). We always enjoyed a few drinks at the Atrium Bar on other Cruises, but at $15 per glass of wine, we just refused to be ripped off, and just drank whatever we brought on board. Food was disgusting after the first few days, and those pesky photographers, or someone flogging some promotion everywhere you went .Entertainment was crap. Definately our last time with Princess Lines.

Not as good as previous years
Have to agree with a lot of Emily's comments. Semed like we were on a cruise for old-age/nursing home patrons - wheely-walkers, walking sticks, wheel-chairs everywhere. Lifts, when working, cluttered, as were walkways. Lots of quite senior, unfit, overweight, unhealthy, unwell looking folk everywhere with on-board activities geared towards them. Being a Christmas cruise, young kids were very well catered for admittedly but there was barely anything of note on offer for passengers in-between. Food standards have slipped - nowhere as good as it ...Read more
used to be. There was a flavourless, mushiness, "sameness" quality to the taste of all foods - not nearly as good as it was on past cruises. Items which used to be on the menu as standard, such as steak, fish, lobster on formal nights etc, you had to pay extra, around $25. 2 to 2.5Hrs to be served and finish eating. A bottle of wine that costs $28 a few years ago, now in the $45- $50 bracket. (Around $8 at Dan Murphy's), Soft-serve ice-cream which once was anytime freely available in a cone, replaced by a scoop for $5. Tasty pizzas that used to be free, attracted a charge as an optional extra. Only the basic flavourless variety of pizza was offered for free. Happy hour, where you could buy a beer and get a second one for a $1 has been done away with. Happy hour is no more. The "bean-counters" have been hard at work apparently. Dress standards on formal nights have been lowered markedly. One time it was not possible to attend formal nights unless you wore a dress suit or a jacket and tie at least. On this cruise, men attended in polo shirts and open collared short-sleeved shirts so it's a waste of money to hire or buy formal wear for the cruise. The waiters and room stewards were magnificent as usual. Overall, i was bored witless with nothing much to do except eat bland food and sleep. The calibre of entertainers were mediocre. Not long ago there was a first class show at the entertainment venues either end of the ship each evening. This cruise only had the one show at the main theatre where you were lucky to get a seat being so packed, televised at times and shown on a small screen at the other venue. No more loan of a headset to listen to the soundtrack of the TV screen on the gym's treadmills, etc. Would be reluctant to cruise on the Sea, Sun or Dawn Princess unless there is news of improvements. These ships are showing their age, looking tired and one is left with the feeling the company is squeezing every cent it can out of them before they become razor-blades.

Only enjoyable for over 60s...
Just got off our cruise today from a trip to Papua New Guinea. I'd chosen to go with Princess from the great reputation I'd heard. Unfortunately this was not entirely met for me and my other family members. The crew were absolutely fantastic however I believe this cruise needs a bit of improvement with variety of activities for ALL ages. At least 4/5 percentage of travellers were above 70 years old, which is not an issue however they still need to cater for the small percentage of people who aren't within this age group. For our family, ranging...Read more
from 12 - 48 years we were all quite dissatisfied with the day to day activities especially when you are spending 3-4 days at sea. We expected elderly however did not expect them to be as old and disabled as they were. We felt like we were in a nursing home with knitting classes, old people's music and wheelie walkers and wheelchairs everywhere. The lifts were constantly occupied by wheelie walkers and disembarking the ship took twice as long with oldies struggling to walk down the stairs or hop on the tender boats. Another issue I'd like to bring up is the formal nights, the dress code needs to be more specific NOT selective. My father was declined entry into the restaurant for not wearing a long sleeve shirt? He was wearing a black (short sleeved) collared dress shirt, black dress pants and black dress shoes. May I mention these items were especially purchased for the occasion. Once he borrowed a dress shirt from my partner we continued back in to eat dinner however once we were inside there were many other travellers wearing short sleeve shirts? When leaving the restaurant my father questioned why they were allowed and was told they were allowed to wear this as they were older and felt more comfortable wearing this. This is not right, the rules should not change per person. Anyway to end on a happy note, my steward was absolutely fantastic and Papua New Guinea was a beautiful location.Similar opinion? A Perfect Cruise
Got off the ship today 16/12/18 after 8 night Brisbane to Port Douglas trip. What a top cruise. Everything met our expectations including boarding & disembarkation, food, entertainment, staff & accommodation. We have completed 16 cruises with Princess & several other cruise lines. We will be back for more. After a disastrous cruise with P&O several weeks ago to New Guinea I am now of the opinion that P&O should send a delegation on a princess ship so they might learn how to operate a cruise liner. We also took our son & his wife for their...Read more
1st cruise on this latest trip & they were totally in awe of everything on the ship. They had nothing but the highest praise for Princess. I was more than impressed with the way hygiene is promoted around all food areas & I did not hear mention of any sickness on board during this trip. I would highly recommend Sea Princess to anyone for a great relaxing holiday.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Excellent staff. Some cabin difficulties
Our booking number was HQ3D6PA . A special thank you to Ernesto and Shaan in Caneletto as they made our dining experience so memorable. A special thank you to Arnie our cabin steward for level 5, who was always pleasant and helpful.
We were unfortunate enough to have quite a stormy trip. This did not worry us until we tried to sleep on the rough nights. Our cabin was number 328 on level 5. The noise was quite unbearable. We had to try and sleep at the other end of the bed, Kleenex stuffed in our ears and a spare pillow over our head. The whol...Read more

Rain, rain & more rain.
We left Sydney in glorious sunshine at an early 3.30pm for a 13 night cruise around NZ. Boarding was easy and efficient. The overall condition of the ship was good, older but perfectly acceptable and no way near the condition some online reviews indicated. Our cabin was clean, comfortable and a little cramped. It had the typical creaky wardrobe which I managed to stop by jamming the ship service directory between the wardrobe and wall mounted fold down bed. We stopped at 6 ports and cruised around Fiordland for a day which was brilliant. It rai...Read more
ned at all ports except 2 and rained pretty much the rest of the time- no fault of the ship/cruiseline. This did not really affect our enjoyment of the cruise. We have tried 3 other cruise lines and this unfortunately was the worst for food we have tried so far. The choice of food in the Horizon buffet was very limited and the lunch and breakfast options changed little each day - this became monotonous very quickly and the food did not look appetising. There was a buffet line each side of the ship but they served the same food. The main dining room was better, but personally I found the dish selection again uninspiring with a lot of seafood dishes and not many meat options on the menu. I like seafood but my wife does not and I could see her point of view. The ships aircon seemed to make the ship warm, then cool, then warm again all the time. The shows were of a good standard, with a variety of acts. Entertainment during the day was good but not as good a Royal Caribbean, need less teeth whitening and more games. I thought the drinks prices for cocktails was high and the amount of alcohol in each drink was not generous- I tried a few and some just seemed like sweet fruit cordial. The staff were generally great and hard working. However, like other cruise lines the eastern European staff were arrogant ( especially the girl selling drinks in the Regency Dining Room) and need a couple of weeks back in charm/customer service/hospitality school, not whining about how hard she worked- we know they all work really hard. Their attitude to customer service needs to improve or they should go home. All the passengers we met had a good time, but with similar opinions and we arrived back in Sydney to glorious sunshine.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Not for disabled people
So where do I begin, I have MS, I'm in a wheelchair 80% of my time the other I use a walker to walk/ shuffle which is difficult. I decided to book a cruise with my daughter and me on the Sun Princess 8 nights leaving and returning to Fremantle as this was easiest for me. We were so looking forward to it- I booked thru Clean Cruising and had several conversations with them and Sun princess regarding my disability and what I required, No step, even down to the point of measuring the distance between the door frame to the bathroom to make sure my...Read more
walker would fit thru, they did advise there was a tiny hob into the shower which I have at home so was not a concern. They even talked me out of a disabled room because it was two decks lower and had no fresh air and was next to the Casino, they guaranteed the room they booked me would be suitable! So after months of waiting the day finally arrived, we boarded the ship made our way to our cabin so excited opened the door to find the room was so small I could not get past the bed to use the balcony and worst of all the bathroom had a huge STEP to get into OMG I can't use the bathroom!! So upset we take a deep breath I have to back out of the room into the hallway and find a disabled toilet as its been hours we finally find one and the toilet is normal height if not a lower toilet with a handrail WOW could not believe my eyes I had to go so I had to fall back into the toilet and getting off was so difficult not disabled friendly at all, we decided we needed to regroup and go talk about what we where going to do, the ship was not leaving for another three hours. We found the lifts, so slow I mean waiting 5mins even longer then abled body people pushing us out of the way, they could take the stairs! finally, we found the floor where they were serving lunch, grabbed a sandwich and sat down and talked about what we were going to do. I could not use the bathroom in our cabin, the disabled toilets on the whole ship are all the same, the only disabled friendly eating area was the one we were in, can it get any worse? I decided we had to leave the Sun Princess- we spoke to one of the officers, she came to our room and totally agreed it was NOT suitable and also advised the whole ship is not disabled friendly, that the same things were happening to a couple a few doors up. Distraught we left the ship and watched it sail out of the harbor whilst waiting for my son to return and pick us up. No apology from Sun Princess cruise as apparently, I agreed to the step into the bathroom- are they serious, really I would agree to a step when I can't lift my feet off the floor. they would not refund my money! Clean Cruising had to refund my money and try to get it out of Princess Cruises. At the end of the day, we are but numbers and I believe no care for peoples circumstances are taken into consideration.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Titanic's in better shape
We have cruised many times with many cruise lines from the opulent to the mediocre we are very easy going and not hard to please but even we have out limits.
Our cruise to NZ was a birthday milestone celebration and we saved hard to make it happen now we wish we had have saved a bit more and gone on another ship.- What a total disappointment.
The food the first week on in the Horizon was fresh but three days before we were to disembark the quality went downhill rapidly. It tasted like leftovers revamped.
As for the daily entertainme...Read more

Hair straightening how to stop your hair frizzing – Yep- the excitement went on.- OMG- I was so bored I wanted to throw myself overboard. The toilets both public and cabin had non-stop problems passengers had an issue with either their toilet or their cabin including flooding. Then it was our turn to have a toilet disaster - Our toilet over flowed just before 8am having just woken up were like a deer in a headlight we were both not with it panicking trying desperately to stop the water overflowing but all to no avail, the water was cascading over the step like a waterfall .Similar opinion? An old and tired ship
No possible comparison to some of its newer sisters. Eminently unsuitable for older and mobility challenged passengers. My wife brought her own wheelchair on board and it spent almost the entire 14 days stowed on the balcony because while the room stewards were busy, their trolleys blocked the narrow passageways so there was no hope of getting by with the chair. My wife spent the entire cruise either confined to her cabin (stateroom ? be real) or tottering to a restaurant with a stick just for meals. The priority embarkation and disembarkation we had been promised on booking were nowhere to be seen. The gold on this one is tarnished, both on the vessel and those who sail her. But then, I guess that's why she's been relegated to Melbourne.

n the main dining room and in the horizon a different theme everyday, the Aussie bbq out on the terrace grill was mouth watering as well the pizzeria at cafe corniche, the amuleto cafe and the patisserie our favorite cafe for people watching in the atrium i still cant believe all this is included in your fare, i bought a coffee extras package well worth it used to be known as the coffee etc card and you can share it only for cruises 7 days or longer this i daresay is to make sure all the punches get used i think it was 36 bucks, formal night was lovely theres something about everyone getting dressed up for formal night in the dining room especially and what a magnificent menu to top it off lobster, giant prawns, barramundi, pheasant i could go on just mouth watering, everything about this cruise was just perfect. We decided to do princess shore excursions this time and so glad we did mainly due to my disability but knowing if the port has to cancelled wed get our money back and especially garentee getting back to the ship as well, the help i recieved during the excursion was very welcoming it was good to know there was help along the way for my carer and myself, our cabin was just lovely we had an acessable balcony mini suite, to sum up will definitely be returning to princessSimilar opinion? This ship would serve tourism far better as a dive wreck than a cruise liner. It is now well past it
We travelled from Singapore to Fremantle.
The air conditioner in our balcony stateroom was so noisy it made sleeping difficult. It can not be turned off and the controller was falling off the wall held only by a couple of wires.
Food was good and so were the staff / crew.
The toilet kept blocking and overflowing making the bathroom a slimy mess. Despite calling the maintenance plumber 6 times in our 13 day cruise they never fixed the toilet to resolve the issue. You would think that after the first time it was blocked and the issues this cr...Read more

Cruise was fine BUT THEY OWE ME MONEY AND WONT PAY
We took the 7 day Alaska cruise on 1st May 2018. It is now going on TEN weeks since we disembarked and they still won’t refund the nearly $300usd they owe me. I have contacted them multiple times in the last three weeks and just keep getting absolute garbage responses. At this point I am absolutely furious. DO NOT TRAVEL WITH THIS COMPANY! They take your money and refuse to refund it

The Sun Princess needs to "Come Back New" .
We booked a 13 night New Zealand cruise from Sydney in March. All processes leading up to our departure went well as did the embarkation even although it had been delayed by a few hours due to complete sanitisation of the ship due to a recent Norovirus outbreak. I had read previous reviews of the Sun Princess but felt it best to wait and judge first hand. Unfortunately the previous comments proved to be true. That the ship is very tired, badly needing a refurbishment and has nauseating smells of sewage in various areas of the ship are all true ...Read more
in our experience. The crew was fantastic in managing to work in what must be quite difficult conditions. Lifts kept breaking down, at least one of the tenders leaked badly through the windows, and others reported problems with water coming out onto the carpet of their stateroom. I submitted the online report which is emailed by Princess on our return, giving a full run down of the problems as well as the positive points. I had expected some follow up but when there was none I decided to email the customer relations department in their Head Office in Sydney. It would appear that none of the feedback has been reaching them re the sewage smell etc . I was frustrated to hear that they were glad I had brought "the plumbing issues to their attention". I have so far been unable to have the reassurance that the problems will have been fixed for future passengers. All I have been told is that the issues are passed on to the relevant department. The same problems, going by other reviews, have been evident since perhaps as far back as early last year. This is very disappointing for a major cruise line as passengers have a choice of other cruise lines in the future. Having been on the Golden Princess on our last cruise this was not the standard we were expecting on another Princess ship.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Don’t pay a waiting list deposit!!
Went on waiting list and had to pay a $200 deposit. The money was taken from our credit card at a click of a button.
The cruise was full and we did not get on.
One week later 2 emails and 2 phone calls and still have not got our money back!!

Boring couldn't wait for it to end!
Where to start. This was my second cruise with Golden Princess the first one being ok. The second one was absolute tedium.
The cabin balcony door didn't secure properly and even after telling the room steward nothing was done about it. Despite 14 months passing between the first and second cruise the restaurant menu was the same. There must have also been a budget cut to the entertainment as there was half the amount of live shows.

ne in people's faces despite them being bored and disinterested. I knew there was a reason the front row was empty! Had a peek for his second show and half the theatre was empty! The other musical acts were dull however it was funny to watch the singer of one of the bands try and hit on women every single night. Obviously Princess Cruises haven't caught up with the #metoo movement! Most of the people onboard are quite old and it can get pretty nasty watching them fight over seats. I will never sail with them again.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Barbara B.asked
Can you drink your pre ordered beer anywhere on board? and not just in your stateroom?
1 answer
I do not know for sure as I only have a few beers a cruise at the bar and don't pay much attention to where people are drinking but I don't see why you cant walk around the ship with a beer as there are bars located at various points around the ship. On Captains nights you see people everywhere with champagne glasses. The stateroom is probably the last place you would drink beer as the beer makes us more relaxed and talkative.
