Brand new and defective

published

Bought it and used it first day until battery was down to zero before recharging, as store clerk advised. Charged it to 100% but the screen remained black and the phone would not come on. Tried turning off and on but screen as still black. This was very disappointing. Not a great start as now I have to take it back tomorrow.

NOT GOOD

published

I was hoping that this would be a great purchase but unfortunately it has not been the case. After a year of use, it is now slow to use and lags behind instead of being as fast as it used to be. It often turns off without any notice and even when it is fully charged.

Really Good!

published

Easy to set up and use. I thought it was a little too expensive though. The face could be larger also. The Camera gives really great crystal clear and crisp pictures. No need for any other Camera any longer! Lots of functionality for the User to experiment with. The Battery runs down fast though. I keep mine on charge via my Computer all the time when I am home, so the batteries are always full when I go out.

Love this phone!

published

I was skeptical about getting a samsung that wasn't in the 'S' series, but I needn't have worried. The A5 is identical to the Samsung S7 and I love it. The only reason i didn't give it 5 stars is because it doesn't put a space between words when you click on predictive text options in messenger, which is annoying, but that is its only fault.

Does it's job for a cheap price

published

This phone is definately worth the money I bought it for. It's not overly big, so it'll fit in your pocket and it's very quick and efficient. I've never had an issue with it. It has plenty of space and it's fingerprint recognition is quite fast. I would recommend this phone. It's probably as good as a Samsung s7 for a cheaper price. The only comment I have is that the camera seems to have some trouble focusing sometimes.

Great for work and personal use

published

Bought my Samsung Galaxy A5 last year, as the pricepoint was good (around the $500+ mark) and the specs were comparable to more expensive brands. Despite the cheaper price, the phone has not compromised on exterior finish. I have the rose gold casing that is still in great condition. As for functionality, I have had no complaints or issues. I use this as my work phone, and access a range of apps as well as text and call extensively through the day. speaker quality is good + the camera works really well. only thing I've been slightly disappointed in with respect to the camera, is that some photos come our a bit blurry when the photo is taken at the same time as filming a video (#firstworldproblem), otherwise brilliant.

Love This Phone!

published

I'm loving this phone ... the biometric security features are very cool. The design is slimline and lightweight. Charging via the socket and cable provided is lightning fast. The battery life seems only around the 24 hour mark, so not great if you are camping or don't have access to a power supply. After having a Samsung Galaxy circa 2014 there are a lot of updates and changes to the interface that I had to adjust to. Also a bit too much bloatware for my liking!!! Overall though, the phone itself is attractive, reasonably priced and easy to use.

Nice phone with no compromises

published

The Samsung Galaxy A5 is a perfect quality and performance for its price. The screen is amoled just like other Samsung phones, but 1080p instead. The screen is vibrant and bright. Battery life is quite good and lasts me a full day. This phone has IP67 water resistance, which most lower cost phones don't include. Another cool aspect of this phone is that it has room for 2 sims AND a micro SD card slot. Samung's s series can only fit 2 sims OR 1 sim and one micro SD card. The camera is quite good and can take decent photos. This phone is a good size with plenty of features for most people.

Great performance and perfect size

published

This phone was cheaper than the S8 but with all the great features. I like a screen that's not too big so i can use with one hand when needed. Its 5.2". It has fast charging which is important and very long battery life. Fingerprint unlocking is good too. Takes good pics. Its classed as mid range phone but seems more like a hi end phone. Highly recommended.

Great deal

published

Compared to the Galaxy S series I feel that the A series really offers everything I need without the fancy frills like waterproof. After upgrading from the S3 I feel like the features are still really good. The camera is important to me and the photos I have taken have not disappointed. I was surprised to find that it still features the quick hand swipe screenshot which I use all the time. Great product without the extra cost in my opinion.

Wish I'd bought the S8

published

It promised to have a camera that was almost as good as the S8, but the A5 (2017) is considerably cheaper so I went with is. Photos are blurry unless taken in great light. It's also had a couple of glitches when i'm using the keypad. Otherwise great but these 2 defects are quite significant.

Great.

published

This phone is a great phone. It does nearly everything an s8 does. It's easy to Use, takes great photos, it is cheap for what it is capable of doing. I don't have any trouble using it. Even my 5 year old can operate it. Definitely worth buying it. Love it.

Perfect alternative to spending a whole heap of money on the Galaxy S series

published

I bought this phone because I didn't want to spend heaps of money on a brand new Galaxy S phone. Considering I only paid $378 on special at JB HiFi, it is amazing value!!
Sure, it might not have OIS cameras or wireless charging, but it does offer water resistance, a premium design and a decent camera.
I would definitely recommend this product!

A great comprimise

published

Obviously this isn't a flagship but for the price you get most of the great features of the Samsung. You get secure folder, always on display, flow, smart view and more. Multitasking is pretty easy but if you're a serial non-app closer then you'll definitely experience some lag. While the glass-back is pretty slick it does get fingerprints and smugs.
Bad things is that it came with android 6 and has been updated to 7 so probably only going to get android 8.

Perfect...Amazing phone

published

I received this as my birthday gift from hubby, I really love the look and shape of the phone. It's not too big and feels comfy in hand.I am really happy with this phone in terms of processing power and memory. The best part is the battery life, I can use it for nearly 2 days without charging! The camera takes excellent picture of both close up and landscapes one. Thanks, Samsung that a great phone for an affordable price.

Great Value and Fast Camera

Love this little do it all. This little phone can stand a little water and dust. Performance is satisfactory and i like how quick the A5 takes photos. It charges really quickly and the battery lasts 2 days for me. This was a good replacement to my aging Sony Xperia Z2.

Upgrade from Moto E 2nd Gen

published

I bought this phone as a step up in the from my old Moto E 2nd Gen. I wanted a better camera, lots of sensors, better memory etc. Didn't need a massive screen, and at 5", the Salaxy A5 2017 was perfect. I really like this phone, even though it isn't quite 'flagship' quality.. it gets the job done. Great for listening to music, checking emails and social media, average (not amazing!) smartphone camera snaps, casual games, YouTube and general productivity. With a stock screen protector and case, the phone screen seems durable in that has survived several drops. Highly recommended!
