Stylish Design
The first thing that caught my eyes when shopping for a heater is the unique design of Saxon blackwood. Apart from making my home warm, it brightens my living room. From far it is like a fireplace in the olden days. The most important factor is my electricity bill is okay.

Just what the doctor ordered!
I purchased this product 17 years ago and still working like a treat. Did smell slightly when running in-but if you do as per instructions and only burn a small first off then all good. This heat was so strong the whole house would warm up. And as Saxon use thicker steel they last a long time. As already said I have had ours for over 17 years. Still the same appearance design today.

Saxon blackwood 2014 model sxbw14k
Hi guys just installed the Saxon Blackwood..Big job for us because of the only corner we could have it in,being convection we could have it 50mm off the corners witch is great,we needed 45°elbows and extra flue pack to miss the centre of the roof witch isn't cheap..the area of our house is 186 sqm 4x2 with ceiling fan, heat needs to go around a corner and back up our hall way to the 4 bedrooms and
Bathrooms, managed it with ease!..low fan is fine but obviously med to boost is similar to a reverse cycle on full noise..but honestly I dought we wi...Read more

Do not buy Saxon
DO NOT BUY A SAXON!!! Every winter we have the same problem with our heater where the fan inside melts and makes a loud horrible noise when switched on then it takes 6 months to get it fixed and then it's summer! Saxon please contact me to organise ANOTHER warranty job!

We can't afford to use the central heating
I woud highly recommend it. We use it to dry our washing inside in winter. It heats the entire house and we can't live without it. It is simple to use runs all day and night. Our house sometimes is too warm at around 24 degrees Celsius. My wife loves it.

It's a great heater
We bought our Saxon about six years ago for a new house. It's a large open plan house with four bedrooms and two living areas. We source our firewood from our own acreage so we know it is good quality and the Blackwood does a great job heating the entire house. I think that most people who have problems are just using poor quality wood.

Wouldn't have anything else
we purchased our Saxon as reconditioned just over 6 years ago after we had finished renovating. The previous heater was a cruel joke but the house is a large open old farm house (tall Ceilings long hall way ect.) where we positioned this heater now warms the entire house sufficiently although we do keep 2 of the 4 bedrooms closed they're unoccupied. Comes down to the wood you burn too but it's been fantastic ! I can place one piece in of a morning and shut it down while I'm at home and it'll tick away all day then open the heater up and it kic...Read more
ks back into gear nicely and burns. We have had problems with smoke when we open the door but I think that's contributed to by those bloody caps you are supposed to have on top of the flus. All our family members have Saxon and no ones ever had a problems.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Great fire place
First put the fire place in 2 years ago found it to generate ample heat for the house around 260 squares when going all day and night heats the floor tiles as well as the whole house. Great buy And well worth the money would and have recommended to others...

Great wood heater
Came with our house we bought 14 years ago, this is the Tasmanian made heater, the only repair to date was replacing the air tubes with air bolts and a new baffle plate. The fire box is still in good condition,[will burn up to 11 hours with good wood.[ not bad for a 20 year old heater.]

Revised review
I may have been expecting too much from the burner given the size of our house and 2 stories.
It does an OK job of heating the house if it is going all day. I do burn a lot of wood though and its not cheap.
Really need to put the fan on 2 or 3 to get the air flowing. I would have to see another same size heater in action to give a true review.

Great heater easy to use
This works great but does require extra draw eg extra length of flue or my case couldn't reach up any higher to fit an extra length of flue so fitted a rocket cowl or also referred to as a turbo cowl now hardly any smoke exits when opening door and wood burns alot more efficiently.
simple to operate once set up properly
not big enough ash space and window needs cleaning regularly

Works as expected.
This came with the house (built 1995) and does a good job of heating. After 18 years use the door seal has been replaced once, the tube has needed replacement and there is some wear to the baffle but I consider this quite reasonable given the age and amount of use. There is no fan on the heater, but a separate heat transfer kit moves heat to other rooms quite well. It burns all types of wood fairly well. Tip - put the logs "end on" with the ends facing the front rather than having them in sideways as it burns better this way. Tip number 2 - nev...Read more
er, ever try burning coal in this heater. It's designed for wood only and will not burn coal satisfactorily. Big heat output. Economical use of wood. Runs a long time between refueling. Nothing in particular.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Excellent heater
We have had our heater for 20 odd years. It was bought directly from the factory when it was still in Tas. We have not had to spend a cent on it and it has burn't everything I have scrounged to put in from pine to garden trees to redgum here in Adelaide. It has got to the stage we now need to replace the 2 tubes ours has(only 1 on the new models)that regulate the airflow and allow us to shut it down to slow burn overnight which the new models cannot legally do. We optioned out from the fan as it causes draughts and just heat via convection-warm...Read more
s the whole house when we stoke it up and we have had it roaring sometimes The fact it has lasted so long and burns so well still Lets smoke out the door if you open it too quick before opening the air slides to suck air in and take smoke away from doorSimilar opinion? not pleased with ours
we have had ours for 2 years and the top baffle is burnt out and the glass went smoky within 2 weeks and we cannot control how it burns it is either flat out or not burning at all. we dont like it at all we loved the heat charm which we had previously for 20 years.

Money worth spent
I must state that i have had this heater for 12 years now and only the other day took notice that i have not spent a cent on it since i purchased it. The heater is amazing it heats my 27sqm house no problem. The seal around the door is still perfect, that fan still works the only thing is the baffle plate has slightly warp from the probably me filling it up with too much wood but does not effect the performance of the heater.
heats my whole house and have not spent anything over the 12 years other then $40.00 for brushes to clean the flue.

No fire bricks in mine. 18 years old and still going strong. Mine was made at the old factory in Tasmania however but they are now made elsewhere and possibly not to the same standard?

Hi we have just purchased. Saxon Blackwood heater and are deeply disappointed with the fan function. Supposed To only take 20 mins to cut in .well the fire has been going for well over an hour and is burning Quite well but till the fan hasn’t cut in really annoyed any suggestions

The fan turning on & off is controlled by the position of the air-vent as well as the heat of the heat box along with the door. Every time you open the door the fan turns off and restarts the timer. As does the position of the air-vent. I disconnected the fan timer and the heater works better, but is still very ordinary.
Its one of the worst ever purchases I have made.
It’s not even come on at all. How do u disconnect the timer? It’s putting out some heat even with out the fan but I still want to be able to use it

So your fire heater is a saxon Blackwood? Is it like the new ones and doesn't have fire bricks? I am concerned without the bricks, the steel will burn out faster then those with
