phone arrived fast, but cant get it activated
My old phone died thought i would try southern phone. my new nokia 2720 arrived within 48 hours, great start. Have since spent approx 6 hours on 4 different days trying to get thru to get it activated. NO LUCK. i WORK FOR MYSELF so estimate the wasted 6 hours and the lost phone business ( no phone for 9 days ) has cost me around $1500, should have just gone to telstra. Went to mediation with southern phone to try and get the phone activated, but they refuse to call and we just go back and forth with emails wasting another day . The most difficult user unfriendly obstinate company i have ever dealt with .

Very Poor Customer Service - Switching Provider
My daughter went over her data limit by 4GB and I was charged $170. Rang Southern who said her data should have been frozen after 3GB to avoid excessive costs. When I asked why it wasn't frozen he didn't know and said he'd find out and call me back but never did. Called again a few days later and got an extremely rude lady who literally told me "bad luck" I should teach my daughter to use less data. She could not give me a breakdown of the data used nor explain why they did not disable the data when it exceeded their threshold. This was not an ...Read more
offshore call centre but here is Australia. Pathetic customer service with no empathy or respect for their customers. I had to pay this ridiculous amount for 4 extra GB, but am now switching all 4 of my accounts from Southern to another provider where we'll be getting 2.5x the data for just $1 more.2 comments
Too Little Too Late. You want to assist me now after I called twice and you couldn't do a thing for me and provided me the worse customer service I have ever had. Have already switched to Moose and their service is so much better and friendlier.

Dreadful, go elsewhere
This mob are completely hopeless. I tried to get switched over from a previous Sky Muster provider. I had all the gear and just needed the provider switched. They said it would take a few days, then after my next call it was going to take 2 weeks then finally 6 weeks. At that point I tried another provider who connected me in an hour!
A few weeks in my internet suddenly stopped just after an email from southern phone saying I was " on my way". I had rung them after going with the other provider to say don't bother but they had taken my connection. The new mob had to do another one, again took an hour. Now I have received an invoice!! Am on hold for long enough to write this up.

On hold wait times are terrible
The Bad!
Never less than 25mins on hold, once was for an hour. I used that time to lodge an online complaint (around 40 mins in), and received an email days later saying, "Call us"...priceless!
I have also had late fees applied despite having paid by BPAY on time. Called them and was told that the BPAY method of payment didn't always transfer that day, and despite the 'effective date' of payment on my statement, a late fee would be automatically applied. Got a text and paid, although was the text was 4 days later, another late fee. The Good! In fairness, I have never had an issue with service, and when they do finally answer the calls, they have ALWAYS removed the late fees, however, having been on hold for 2hrs for 3 calls, still isn't good enough1 comment

SOUTHERN PHONES - PATHETIC SERVICE
This company "aims" to restore a landline service within 3 days. It also offers a redirection to mobiles. I reported a fault nearly 3 weeks ago and went through the self testing of the phone, a thing I have done many times for the same "patched up" line. Talk to english speakers & it works!
Great coverage in the bush & great value. Would recommend to anyone, I've had no problems at all. Started on a green plan but coverage eas sketchy, contacted them & switched me to orange without any hassles.

Very happy with the service AAA++++
I have been with Southern Phone mobile phone for about 18 months or so now. The service has been so good my wife also changed over. Coverage seems to be very good in Tassie. There are several plans to choose from according to the amount of data you generally use.
I can't comment on their internet services but I have found the mobile phone service great!

Never want anything to do with them any more. Worst company ever . Gangstar rating can’t be what they like you to see impossible with so many complaints about them. Even if you are paying your bill upfront al the time you get treated like dirt .

Good no frills mobile service
Have had Southern Phones as my mobile provider for many years and am happy with the reasonably priced no frills mobile only service. Have just changed phones and a call for a new sim was answered quickly.

Terrible service
We are on a Southern Phone contract. I bought my wife a new iphone and needed a nano SIM which was promptly sent to us. I activated (or thought so) online on Boxing Day. The SP website advises that it can take 24-48 hrs. On Sunday 29/12, I rang Southern Phone only to be told that it needed to be escalated to the provisioning team but they were not in until Monday. Rang again on Monday and asked that it be escalated. Was told they would put a message through on the account. Today (31/12) it had still not been activated so I rang again. I was tol...Read more
d that the online activation did not go through so had to be done manually. I was told that it would be 24-48 hours. I made the point that it should be done immediately as it had been a week since I activated online. Next stop is telecommunications ombudsman. It is clear that SP can't live up to their promise of activation in 24-48hrs (most carriers get it done within 1/2hr as I understand): 1. The online activation system is faulty. 2. They don't have the support, other than normal business hours it would appear, to action things when the online system fails. Should also note that since signing up to a new bundled internet, home & mob plan with them (we originally had few problems on previous plan) we have had buffering when streaming, which we never have previously since getting the NBN.1 comment

Worst ever
This company is terrible.
When watching catchup tv on my mobile there was constant buffering.
I live 30 minutes from town and couldn't make phone calls or access the internet while there. When I called to ask why the person said it was probably my handset or because of 5G work both of which are untrue because my mobile is now working fine with my new provider. Steer clear of this mob because they are useless.

The Best and Worst Service
Having lost all reception at home on my Optus plans I decided to change to Southern Orange. I call their sales team numerous times and the call was answered on the second ring all times.
I received my 3 sim cards and tried to activate online. Tried three times and it appeared that the website froze so after 30 seconds I backed out and called Southern sales. They told me I had to speak with Customer Service. Still on Optus that was dropping out every 5 to 15 minutes I gave up. Called sales again, second ring answer. Advised of website p...Read more

Tried again and after 45 seconds I got a response, so activated all 3 sims which took 10 minutes to activate. All now with 3 - 5 bars constant. Now I needed International Roaming Access and DD to my credit card. This time I range Customer Service with the Orange Telstra network. My call was answered after 1 hour 45 minutes on hold. At least southern have English speaking people on their phones unlike Optus and Telstra all of whom have heavy accents and limited English.

work reception is excellent, my SMS works fine, hopefully my global roaming will also work fine for calls and SMS. The young lady that eventually assisted me was excellent. Three days on phone.
Around an hour on hold each day.
Cheap is not always good.
The customer service lady was short and not apologetic which made me feel even more frustrated.

Worst Internet company ever
Super slow service, I think it was faster in the 90s with dial up.
Every time there is an issue you have to spend a minimum of 1 hour waiting on the phone for them to reply.
Now, we have been with no internet for over 2 days. I work from home and this is a big issue. Yesterday I spend an hour and half on the phone, when I finally go to customer service, they just couldnt solve it. Today, over an hour waiting plus 1 hour talking to customer service and after 2 and half hours total at 7.55pm they hanged up on me. I guess they were closing. And of course, still no service.
Every internet company has its issues, but this one is the worst I have ever had in my life seriously.

Claim statement sent but not arrived via email - shocking waiting times on hold - matters not resolved & they don't seem to care - chat line drop out - very poor customer attitude or no follow up to resolve.

This company, in over 30 years of consumer service experience, is by far the worst I’ve ever experienced
It’s sad to say this of a ‘local Australian company’ but they have not listened to my complaint and indeed, they have ignored it too
They have even disputed an Apple diagnosis of the phone that Southern Phone sold me.
The phone is locked. Apple have confirmed this, as have other retailers in Australia. Apple have tested the phone and have said ST need to unlock it so I can use it with other providers (overseas or in Australia). I now own the phone.

Terrible service. Never again
Crap service. Hit you with an overdue bill/late payment because you pay on the day. But due to bank transfers goes through overnight then hit you with an unrealistic bill to go on top. Been on the phone for over 30mins. Absolutely crap. Never again

All of Southern Phone is appalling.
I have never experienced such a terrible company than that of Southern Phone. Their systems are shockingly bad, you can never find out how much data you have used. Customer Service is close to non-existent. DO NOT SIGN UP TO SOUTHERN PHONE.

Unprofessional bungling
If you want: 2 hour phone waits, promised call backs that never come, no responce to online communications, 7 day Diconnect notifications SENT the day before the disconnect and recieved after it. & zero notifications when there is a problem with your payments, go with Southern. If you want a professional very cheap service, go with Kogan mobile

I recently bought the $16 postpaid plan forr 3gb, i received the sim and transferred over my number. I was aware that activation may take 24-48 hours however after this period i was able to call make unlimited outgoing phone calls and texts as well as use the data HOWEVER was not able to receive any incoming phone calls. When called on my number it would go straight to voicemail,except for landline. I tried to contact customer service but they were not responsive due to bush fire crisis. please help fix this, has anyone experienced this before?

This happened to me also as well as not being able to use the intertnet when I was in town. I live in regional Oz. I fixed the problem by changing providers. Life's too short to mess about with incompetence.
