Great coverage in the bush & great value. Would recommend to anyone, I've had no problems at all. Started on a green plan but coverage eas sketchy, contacted them & switched me to orange without any hassles.

The Best and Worst Service
Having lost all reception at home on my Optus plans I decided to change to Southern Orange. I call their sales team numerous times and the call was answered on the second ring all times.
I received my 3 sim cards and tried to activate online. Tried three times and it appeared that the website froze so after 30 seconds I backed out and called Southern sales. They told me I had to speak with Customer Service. Still on Optus that was dropping out every 5 to 15 minutes I gave up. Called sales again, second ring answer. Advised of website p...Read more
roblem they advised try again and leave for at least a minute even if it looked like it was frozen. Tried again and after 45 seconds I got a response, so activated all 3 sims which took 10 minutes to activate. All now with 3 - 5 bars constant. Now I needed International Roaming Access and DD to my credit card. This time I range Customer Service with the Orange Telstra network. My call was answered after 1 hour 45 minutes on hold. DISGUSTING.5 comments
At least southern have English speaking people on their phones unlike Optus and Telstra all of whom have heavy accents and limited English.

work reception is excellent, my SMS works fine, hopefully my global roaming will also work fine for calls and SMS. The young lady that eventually assisted me was excellent. You not having an overseas contact number is a worry and concern, in fact fictional. Otherwise, great and thanks. Dave

Signed up to 12 month contract, 3 SIMs later still could not get service to work for SMS and MMS.
Had one replacement SIM that was "tested in a phone" but on arrival was still attached to the card, (magic?)
Had enough so advised the contract would not be renewed months in advance and asked for disconnection at end of contract. Customer service person on chat was "less than favourable" (I'm being polite)

uld turn up a few days later and I would pay the pro rata amount as "You will receive a bill with a credit on it" When nothing turned up I contacted again via chat and was advised that because the service was disconnected after the statement generation date, the final statement will need to be generated, and I would have to pay the previous statement and late fee. (its just getting better hey) The final statement (6 weeks after disconnection) has a "port out fee" (I haven't kept the number or moved it).1 comment

Be prepared to complain
I've signed up to a discounted plan. My first bill reflects the undiscounted rate. There's nothing in the initial emails or the bill that accounts for this -- and the bill states that I'm on the undiscounted plan. Southern Phone's response is basically 'this is the way we bill first time around, you'll get the discount next month'. This is completely unacceptable. I've lodged a complaint with the telco ombudsman.

Bad phone Service
I have a mobile phone plan with southern phones and i am on holidays in Acacia Hills in Tassie can only get SOS . I asked to be changed to Telstra they said there will be a fee for breaking the contract that they supplied me with when i signed up my daughter has a Telstra a/c and her phone works fine this means i am paying for a phone service that i can't use (GREAT)Barry Watson. a phone service where ever i go which is not the case with this company i had to get a prepaid telstra phone in Tassie just so i could have a phone that will give you service. Further to this last report i have been trying to work out why people can't hear me on most times when i am inside my unit but if i walk out side they can hear me and it's because i have no service inside i left a message on their chat line for a call back as they were busy that was 4pm yesterday it is now 7.30 pm next day and no reply3 comments
