Yes it does that but I think you need to move the nozzle to get it to not be as loud
Like I put a fair bit of milk in and move nozzle until it settles then up and down to make milk frothy.

Hi Chris,
I don't work for or am a expert by any means, but after using coffee machines, for 8 years I have come to realize that they are not all made the same, the answer could be that you are not holding the jug, down enough so I would try this, also Is there plenty of water in the machine?
finally I notice a loud sound when not holding the jug at the right angle so I would try to hold it on a angle and just experiment with it, see how it sounds different when you do that. good luck

Do you Purge the steam wand before trying to Froth your milk otherwise water will come out of the wand you direct the wand down into the tray put it onto steam wait until it stops purging the water put it back to the normal position for a second and then put it back onto Steam and you should have steam only at that point

While I am frothing, mine switches over to the other function and pumps hot water through the steam wand. I think that's what yours is doing too. The noise changes when it does it. Also my rotating switch has moved so that steam comes out around the edges of it, which is a bit dangerous. I suspect the two are related. Maybe something has moved in the switch and both functions are coming on at the same time. Unfortunately don't know a fix but will have a look inside. It's out of warranty anyway.

Does it need a good clean? Take off the group handle and look up inside. Does the water flow when you take the group handle off?

Yes, mine is a bit noisy (both the pump and the frother). It's nowhere near as noisy as a machine with a built-in grinder, so it's not so bad.

Making coffee is pretty quick, at about 20 seconds for 60mL (2 shots) of espresso, which I think is fine.

Making milk seemed OK to me when I first started to use it. But a few months later, just for fun I had a barista lesson at a coffee house, and that's when I found out how fast a frother can be. My EM3820 takes about 45 seconds to do the milk for one latte, whereas the commercial machine took less than 10 seconds. I don't think 45 seconds is too long when I make no more than 4 lattes in a day. If I were making coffees in a shop, it would be a different matter.
