Lid jams shut
We need to use a screwdriver to lever open the lid of our KE9600 Sunbeam kettle to fill it. It is very inconvenient and unacceptable given the "quality" brand and price paid. The good news is I have two days left with the 12 month warranty and will be on Harvey Normans doorstep tomorrow for a refund.

Waste of money
We purchased this kettle and paid around $99 as we were impressed by the features and the looks. it started leaking in around 10 months time however I realised it later as it was just a minor drip and thought the water was due to the steam accumalation. when I realised that it was genuinely leaking it was out of warranty hence could not get a replacement. What a waste of money.

Absolutely disappointed
I bought this kettle in 8/09/2014 at Myer. Expensive for a kettle but lured by this promise - KE9600 Cafe Series® Variable Temperature Kettle. Yesterday, 16/02/15 5 months after its warranty expired, it was profusely leaking. I couldn't see visible crack but water just flooded the base coming out from the glass window. Judging by the comments of people here, we all have about similar experiences and timeframe when this kettle showed its demise. I would like all of us affected by this problem to organize ourselves and get a replacement or m...Read more
oney back from Sunbeam because obviously this is a manufacturing defect. sunbeam hides behind the 'expired warranty' - BUT as consumers, I think we ought to enjoy our purchases at least two years ( considering the price tag of this kettle). I'm keeping the kettle because I would like Sunbeam to see it. It's not our manner of usage that caused the breakdown of this product, it's the mediocre quality of the product that caused this problem. I hope someone could help.2 comments
OOOPS...correction to the above dates kettle was was bought 8/09/2013.

manager about it. - In short, I got a call from her asking me to return the kettle and they will give us a voucher. - They gave us a voucher to the amount we bought it originally. Happy Dance!!! I used it to buy a new kettle, this time a Kitchenaid-kek1522 worth $349. Another expensive one but we'll see. I will share my review in few weeks time. Too early to say anything. So far my new Kitchenaid 1522 Artisan kettle is superb! Thank you Myer for service par excellence. Folks if you want to buy expensive stuff go to a reputable shop like Myer, their service is beyond measure. P.S. Sunbeam only offered 30% discount towards buying another kettle from them. How pathetic!

Electrical hazard it leaks please don't buy
We purchased this sunbeam kettle 6 months ago from myer and was quite expensive for a kettle but we liked the concept of controlling the temperature and it's design. Not long after purchase I noticed water leaking to its base and often disregarded this until it stared to have water underneath and I got zapped when using kettle. This is the most dangerous kettle I have ever owned and very disappointed in Sunbeam as I have finally googled that others have had the same issue. please don't buy this product it should be recalled. Leaking after 18 months.
Absolutely loved the kettle until I noticed a crack on the clear panel (looks like its from the middle, as I cannot feel any crack on the outside or inside the kettle when I put my finger through). 2 weeks after noticing the crack, it is now leaking water. Is this a common problem? Seems like the last 2 reviews has the same problem Recall??

leaks and unsafe
I loved this kettle when I first purchased it due to the variable temperature function.
However at 15months the kettle leaks like a sieve, to the point of the electronics on the base flickering when I discovered it this morning, so enough to have gone into the base of the unit and enough to give me a mild zap when I touched it. UNSAFE, UNRELIABLE.
The warranty from Sunbeam may only stipulate 12 months but under consumer law I would say we would still have recall. It is unfit for use just over a year after being purchased which is ou...Read more
tside a reasonable time you would expect an appliance to operate, especially at the price of this unit. If I expected only a years use I would have bought a $20 kettle from Kmart, which we have at work and interestingly it is in its 3rd year! Awaiting a response from Sunbeam. It will be further complaints if they ignore me, the kettle may have killed me if not for my safety switch.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

NICE KETTLE, NOT TOO LOUD...BUT LEAKS LIKE A SIEVE AFTER WARRANTY EXPIRED
This little kettle I really liked....very happy with design...didn't find it too noisy compared to some other brand kettles...one day I awoke to find my bench totally covered in water...checked kettle and noticed leaks from both sides of the clear glass panels of each side...was so disappointed...and just happened to have been out of warranty...Trying other brand at the moment...not sure I will buy another sunbeam again...

Lid hinge broke after 14 months
Heavy, but pretty good - until it broke just after the warranty expired :(
I would have expected a kettle that costs twice or triple that of cheaper brands to last at least 2 years, not one.

Best kettle purchased!
Bought this kettle in July 2014. It is quieter than any other kettle I have had. Loved the variable temperature function, which is great for tea drinkers because setting it to the right temperature for certain teas ensures you don't burn your tea. I had previously recommended this kettle, but three years later a leak has formed under the water level window, so it seems the seal around that area requires a bit more quality control.

Very very dissapointed with this kettle
After years of supporting Sunbeam café series products and recommending them to family and friends based on quality and good design, I am very disappointed with this kettle. Just out of warranty and leaking like a sieve. After reading all the similar reviews, it is safe to say it is a design fault. Coming from a electrical design background I would go as far as to say it's a deliberate design fault! While all the café series products I own have good to great reviews, it does raise the question why the product that is used all day, everyday (ket...Read more
tle) is the one that has the design fault. Most people that have purchased the series are likely to keep replacing it with the same brand to keep their kitchens uniformed. If all products last too long the company isn't getting more sales.. Considering the level of design standards with the café series range WHY IS SOMTHING SO SIMPLE, DESIGNED AND INSTALLED LIKE THIS????? based on the reviews I have just read, I'm off to buy a Breville...Similar opinion? Leaking kettle
After 1 year our kettle started leaking from the glassed area. Mixing puddles of water and electricity isn't good. Very disappointed with the kettle and it certainly isn't quiet either. Won't buy another sunbeam product again

short life expectancy!
As with other reviews this kettle was great to start with then little bits of water started remaining on the stand aND within days water everywhere! Very dangerous. Had the kettle 17 months and had expected it to last longer. My job today is to go and buy a new kettle but not this one again and yes it is quite noisy too.

Leaking after 1.5 years
We were happy with the kettle until it started leaking like reported in other reviews. Sometimes the whole bench is covered in water - dangerous considering water & high voltage so need to buy another one and not a Sunbeam brand as this totally put me off.

Noisy boil technology
After extensive research we opted for the cafe series KE9600 because of it's statement about quiet boil technology and the quietest on the market. This was confirmed from sunbeams own website
Even the marketing material in store stated this fact. On first boil I was disappointed to find out this as loud if not louder than our previous kettle.... False advertising, thank you very much Sunbeam, I could of spent the money on another brand

Umm, sorry I can't hear you over the kettle!'
I bought this yesterday. I did a lot of research and chose this one after many positive comments. I also have other cafe series products and love them! Looks great. Countdown feature is brilliant and feels sturdy.
One of the biggest selling points for me was it apparently being very quiet as our kitchen is where people gather and sit. On the shelf it had a sign saying it won an award for being so quiet. Well... I can hear this in the bedroom!! I can't be in the kitchen when it is boiling and this is only after one day!!
Anyone else have this problem? Do I call Sunbeam or take it back to David Jones? I'm quite upset and I took 5 days without a kettle, only to choose a favourite brand and then to only be very disappointed.

Looks great, but leaks after warranty runs out, 2 NOW!
Very disappointed! This is my 2nd Sunbeam Kettle and they have both only latest 15 months each before leaking, they started leaking a little at 13 months by the 15 months the water was all over the bench instead of the kettle! I have always bought Sunbeam and have no problems with my toasters but these KETTLES are not good!!!!!!!!
The look
Started leaking slowly than 2 months later could not use it at all!

No receipt unfortunately, lost
Our Sunbeam Café started leaking a couple of days ago, (13/09/2014) it seems like a fault as so many are reporting the same problem. It started off as a small leak but now a few days later there is water all over the bench top if left overnight with some water left in it, it would seem to me to be dangerous to have water leaking out over the area where the 240V connection is and then forming a pool of water on the bench top, water that could possibly become live. Getting zapped by 240V is usually a onetime event, you don’t come back for another...Read more
try. My question is how did such a design pass our electrical safety laws? Quite aside from the fact that the item is reasonably expensive and it failed within a year the electricity is conducted through the base and it leaks water all over the same base, shouldn’t that be a concern for those whose job it is to pass electrical items as being safe under Australian laws? Greg I liked the temerature readout. The leaking of the water over the base and the bench top.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Good for 13 months
Purchased this kettle as it looked great, had some good functions and seemed like the quality was there.
However, after 13 months of use it started to leek with pools of water forming on the bench. Rang Sunbeam to
ask why this is doing this after 13 months, I was advised the kettle shouldn't be doing this. When asked what the life of the kettle should be I was advised she could not comment. When I pressed further for an answer it was anywhere from 12-18-24 months. So, realistically if it does not function properly after 12 months this is normal.
Better kettles on the market for less money.
Nothing now as it only lasted 12 months - not recommended
Leeked and is too dangerous to use

Looks Great
Gave it two stars only because it looks good and has lasted a year. The glass indicator has cracked on the inside and don't know how this happened with general use and now the kettle leaks through base. Also quite noisy. Lasted a year without problem but now I will not buy another.

So far it's been excellent
It's new, but so far it's the best kettle I've ever used. No more hiding the kettle in the laundry when I want to boil it AND watch TV at the same time, like I had to do with the last 2 kettles. The SunBeam is almost completely silent for the first minute then slowly builds to a low noise while it reaches boiling point. And it has a "keep warm" button that keeps it at the selected temperature for 20 minutes, by reapplying the power for about 10 seconds every 2 or 3 minutes. And did I mention how quite it was? Imagine being so happy with a kettl...Read more
e that you go online and write a review! You people must be thinking I have no life. Well, maybe just at the moment I don't, but that doesn't take away from the fact that (so far) this is the best kettle I've ever used. UPDATE for July 2016: It's been going strong for 2 years but the lid button won't open the lid, making the kettle pretty useless. It still works, we just can't open it to fill it. Oh well. It's really quiet, and has a nifty "keep warm" feature, and the temperature is variable.1 comment

Hi Sunbeam Customer Service, my kettle base unit START/CANCEL button works, but at different stages of the heating process, it stops working - sometimes the temperature reading spirals to zero and flies back up again. It seems very confused. The actual kettle heating element etc is fine. The computer is not.

Hi Sunbeam,
Can you please advise how to fix the sticking lid issue that many of us are encountering after the unit is out of warranty? I'm sure that there is a simple fix as the levers all appear to still be working OK?
1 answer
I will answer this myself. I called Sunbeam and they didn't have an easy fix for the lid sticking issue. Out lid finally became so stuck that a knife was required to lift it. After telling Sunbeam that it was just out of Warranty they said no problem so long as I have the receipt they will replace! I ended up taking to Harvey Norman, Bunbury who were great and replaced despite it being 4 months out of warranty. 5 Star rating for Sunbeam and Harvey Norman Bunbury for service despite the faulty product. It makes me think that it is worth buying from Bricks and Mortar stores rather than online even if there is a price difference for the service.

Hi,
I just LOVED my Sunbeam Kettle (KE9600). I've had it for 18months & it's worked perfectly!!! No leaks (like alot of other people have experienced). But....the lid became jammed so we could only refill through the spourt. I know it's not under warranty but is there anyway to fix it? New spring or something?
Cheers,
Vikki

I too would love to know how to stop the lid sticking. We've had our kettle for a little over 12 months and it has been great, but the lid sticking is a show stopper. The levers still appear to work OK I'm wondering if it is lime scale build-up? Has anyone had any success? Has anyone bothered to contact Sunbeam? Sunbeam if you are reading can you please advise if there is a fix, this appears a common problem?
