Basic viewing box
Is an ok device, Netflix works fine on it, we got this with our cable broadband bundle. Its not something that you would crave if you had other means of accessing Netflix. We don't use bigpond or Telstra tv even though I believe we get a free movie a month.
The remote is really basic, I think Testra should have made a decent DVR with catch up and Netflix (IPTV) with a digital tuner, there would have been more praise - Im not sure if this actually does 4k either but with 4k unless you have a oled, 4k is rather limited 8k tvs are coming out in a few years anyway

Provides no benefits over smart tv
This provides nothing unique over the current apps and services i get through my smart tv. I'm struggling to find the purpose of this machines that i can't already do on my pc or smart tv. Being able to rewatch tv shows is something i can access on the foxtel IQ aswell. Overall boring and weak.

It's okay and that's disappointing.
So, this review is done with Telstra TV being compared to Chomecast which costs $50 and can be cast to your tv from your laptop, tablet or phone. Chromecast is what we purchased last year and it's enabled us to watch Netflix, Google Play TV and movies, YouTube a well as listen to all of our local radio stations on TuneIn and music with Spotify. The problem I ran into was when needing to cast to the TV - my mother in her 60s found chromecast all a bit confusing... which app, which folder, where in the tablet, etc. It may not be every households ...Read more
issue but Telstra TV instantly is far more user friendly for my mother. Now, for the cons - simple, you've only got the apps that Telstra is willing to make available to you so, no Google Play movies and TV, no Spotify, TuneIn Radio doesnt work for the same stations that do work with Chromecast. It's something to do with different stations needing a pop-up window. It simply forces the station to not work on Telstra Tv as it doesn't have the software to support the pop-up. Ridiculous. And you can't simply search for another radio app because telstra want control over the idea of you choosing what apps you want or need on your TV. Thanks, Telstra. It really is a very narrowly controlled service and we've found its only positive being that Netflix is a click away but again, if you are capable of using a tablet... Chromecast all the way. You can choose whatever apps you require to cast. Including everything available on Telstra TV. And you can find it all "in one place"... on your tablet or phone. Also, a small thing but with Chromecast the screensavers are just stunning. They're always getting our attention when on in the background. Meanwhile Telstra gives you one option - a Telstra TV logo bouncing around a black screen comparable to the old windows computer logo. Odd. Telstra get so caught up in having their name be seen they forget that a stunning image always gets visitors wanting to know how that's on your TV instead of a tacky logo that adds nothing.Similar opinion? Great Device, just a Shane you cant take Telstra Logo Off!
Roku has always been the king of Streaming, and this device is no different, Great Menus, Great service, has good choice of Streaming Apps, including Foxtel Play, Netflix, Stan and all free to air catch up apps. Can be used with our a connection to the Devil (Telstra). Works fine on other ISP's with a free created Telstra My Account login for the Box, and has a good beefy remote, good easy to use UI. Just a shame you cant rid the Telstra Logo off the device and keep the apps!

Waste of money, that i didn't ask for and is worse than my other options
Just updated my telstra account and recieved this in the post and a bill for $109 on my account. So i decided to give it go, which after having to reset my password got it going. Seemed ok to start with until the first thing i watched finished, and then nothing would load up, like it had lost internet connection. I blamed my wifi, so connected with wire and no better. I will be asked for a refund for something i didnt want or need.

Is good but could be better
I give it 4 stars out of 5 because is good easy to use easy interface great remote after all is a Roku but the apps are very few the only 3 I use are Netflix, Presto and Stan it has bigpond movies but is expensive because you pay per each single movie it was useful for the Australian Open though, great image quality 1080 but haven said that all of this could be way better more apps, higher resolution, music channels, and why not free movies after all we are already paying more than any other service provider, is getting there, works fine but is missing that part that makes you say WOW compared to apple tv.

Great decision.
Started in December 2016. Loving it, Netflix and catch up TV have been fantastic.
The free offers are great and to have it all installed and explained made it all so easy.
Also UTube is a great incentive. Have had a few good night's and afternoons singing to good music.
No need to be bored with TV again.

No boring tv over the holidays
This device came with a sign up plan to telstra and has 3 months free trial of netflix stan and bigpond movies has 3 movie credits. In all a good way to dip your toe in the water to see what programs are available. I think we will continue with Netflix after the trial and are undecided about the others. In all happy the whole family can use this device easily.

Cannot update Red Bull TV !!!
One of the main reasons we got Telstra tv was for the red bull tv app but it has gone to version 7.2 and the Telstra unit is at 7.1 and they have no planned date to upgrade at this stage so red bull tv will not update shows and hasn't since late September ... very disappointing !!!!

Very Pleased
Have the T box in a bedroom and like it very much and when we updated our Telstra bundle the Telstra TV came free. It took about a month to get it and Telstra's level of service has deteriorated markedly. The first two people I spoke to promised the earth and delivered nothing. The third guy actually ordered the unit for us but the tracking didn't work which meant I made another two calls for nothing. It just turned up out of the blue and the tracking still indicated that it hadn't been sent!
That said the unit was very easy to set up althou...Read more
gh it was a disconcerting to have the set tell me we had no internet connection twice, but I soldiered on and it connected saying that the signal strength was excellent. It has all the catch up channels for free to air and they all work! ABC's transmission is horrible but way better than when I used to cast it using Chromecast. We have Netflix and Stan and they both work seamlessly. We had a thirty dollar Bigpond voucher fro free and we used our credit. I won't be spending any money on rentals but Telstra give you a choice of three movies for free on a Thursday night but you have to get a code and the movies have all been not to our taste so far. Good to keep in mind though. The other apps I can't remember but there are 14 in total and you can use the unit as a media player which I attempted once but a downloaded movie came up as audio codec not supported. I plugged the USB sick into the TV directly and it worked perfectly. Roku is supposed to be highly regarded as a media player so I don't know what happened there.Similar opinion? This is great, well done Telstra
What a great product for streaming tv from catch up apps and Netflix. Love it. So simple to use and set up. Streams the shows in very fast time. All the free to air channels are on this box. Starts up fast and is always ready to go. Thank you Telstra for making a top product.

Quite a good product
I bought a Telstra TV to go with my Apple TV (original). At around $100 each I thought I could compare the two. Well after two months I find I'm using my Telstra TV more often than the Apple TV. Why? Presto. I tried Presto earlier this year using a ChromeCast and was completely underwhelmed. I suspect the Android App was the cause of my woes.
On buying my Telstra TV I found I was eligible for a free 6 month subscription to Presto. And, being a Telstra customer my Presto use does not affect my monthly download allocation.

an ($12 per month) and Netflix ($9 per month). In comparison, I find Presto has a bigger range of shows suited to my viewing tastes. Having created Netflix and Stan accounts on the Apple TV, I was able to log in to them easily from the Telstra TV. I'd place the Telstra TV on a par with my Apple TV in terms of usefulness. However, the movie/TV show layout on the Telstra TV is better laid out and provides more information. It is unfortunate that Presto is not available on the Apple TV and iTunes Movies is not available on the Telstra TV. I haven't downloaded any Telstra Movies so can't comment on that feature. I did run out of free HDMI ports on my TV, but a $10 3 way cable slitter resolved that issue. At the time I bought both systems they were retailing for $100-120 each. Now the Apple TV (model 2?) Details for around $200 the Telstra TV looks like excellent value.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Perfect HD, great choice of apps & streaming from home network
Reasonable price, it's a branded Roku; compact & easy to install & lots of info online. Good range of free to air apps available & cheap cost per month for subscriptions e.g. Netflix. Configured it to add Plex so now we can access all our own media (on PC) via our home network. Can also cast directly to it from devices such as mobile phone & tablet. Remote SO simple to use. SO much to watch, we even got rid of cable TV service. Bought additional units for the other TVs in our house; no extra subscription costs. No idea how we lived without it...

Not worth the effort
So disappointing for catch up TV (ten play). Overall takes too long to load (I'm actually waiting for it while I searched and typed, so in excess of 5 minutes) and has a tendency to volume mute during the episode. I see why it's part of the Telstra phone package, but really it'd be best not to include it given the clunkiness of the system.

Telstra Tv Model #4200TL
This unit now comes as part of many bundled, Telstra packages.
It was unpacked and both written and on screen manual was quite easy to use. The activation on linktv had a little hick-up but worked and set-up was easy.
I have 14.5mB connection to the internet - well within specifications of 3.5Mb recommended,
The device often comes up with "HDCP unauthorised. content disabled" but still has audio. You have to turn the device off and unplug the HDMI cable, re-plug it all back together and it works again, until the next time.
It also seems ...Read more

I can't even express how good Telstra are! Generousity and kindness are insane!
I've been with Telstra twice now in my life. The first time I had a fairly average experience with their 12GB Cable Plan. So after my contract expired I moved on to a worse experience, TPG. Now moving back to Telstra cable many years later I am absolutely over the moon happy with every aspect of their service!
Signing up we were greeted with a very kind Australian who was very helpful and generous. We were offered a free T-Box or T-Hub which wasn't even on the website but instead opted for and were accepted a $20 discount per month on the pi...Read more
nnacle bundle. Signup and activation was quick and easy and we were given the Ultimate Speed Boost which the website said would give us speeds up to 100Mbps. In actual fact speedtest.net to this day a year and a half later still reaches 120Mbps most of the time. Now for a massive surprise last week I logged on to Telstra to check my usage (as I sometimes go over my 500GB monthly cap) to find a message telling me Telstra had given me bonus data every month. Checking the usage I literally screamed in awe as I saw an EXTRA 500gb added, bringing my plan up to 1TB a month at no extra charge. I have felt like calling Telstra just to tell them how good their service is but decided to come here and voice my opinion of Telstra as they used to be a pretty shoddy company but everything from reliability to customer service has drastically changed! Unfortunately most people come to ieatwords to share negatives about companies so I'd like to talk about the good of telstra. Customer service is also excellent, all problems I've ever had with them that were their fault have been resolved quickly over the phone.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Don't move from NBN to Cable with Telstra.
We was moving from a NBN area to a Cable area and wanted our Foxtel and NBN moved and bundled with Telstra. After several calls I got hold of a lady which said that was feasible but I got cut off after 45 min waiting time. I called back but nobody knew her or her employee number. So I tried the other lady but got the message that they couldn't bundle unless I went for the full package ($270) - I wish I could afford that. So after several more calls I decided to keep my Foxtel with Foxtel and just get the NBN switched to Cable. After several mor...Read more
e calls I finally got hold of a guy how could help me. But then their system got stuffed. So I had to wait a week for my move request to be opened so we could continue. At the same time the disconnected my connection at the old address even though I was promised it would stay connected. After another several calls and a trip to a store I finally got the order through. The next thing was the move connection got stuck. Foxtel was running from the day we moved in. Internet from Telstra ... nothing. I called up again and we still didn't got it fixed. Restart the modem was the help. Well I've tried that a million times with no luck .. The answer restart the modem wait 24 hours for it to pick up. Still nothing .. calling Telstra again ... same procedure.. next day nothing .. call Telstra again.. same reply.. an each time you have to wait 45 min - 1 hour on your own expense. After persistent having calling them for 2 weeks we finally got internet and it's now working only dropping of for half a day every week. I was told to contact their complaint department for a refund of my expenses. I did that asking this to be done by email but they called me up anyway. They kept pushing me around asking what I wanted (answer: to be compensated for my large phone bill and the period with out internet).. .. after another 5 minutes explaining my case I was asked what I wanted.(same answer).... she kept pushing me around until a raised my voice a bit stating that I had 18 days without internet not 9 she calculated. Then she hung up and I don't get any replies from their complaint department anymore. This is the worst experience of customer service I've ever experienced. I'm so sad I didn't go with TPG or one of the others, but now I can't switch because they have bound me for the next 2 years.... HELPSimilar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

The most appalling display of customer service, harassment and thuggery I have ever seen by any comp
Telstra have taken great pleasure in harassing two disabled pensioners (part of my family). One who is elderly, had knee replacement surgery and has a heart condition, the other a young man who is an amputee and has Spina Bifida.
It began with a Foxtel bill that was incorrect and upon disputing the bill, other linked services were suspended (including phone and internet). Please note that this is after they incorrectly billed the elderly lady $1000 for a $100 internet bill.
Upon refusal to pay the incorrect amount and complaining to Telst...Read more
ra, the customer service representative began listening into another phone call she was having with her daughter on her mobile (speaker phone) whilst he was supposed to have her on hold. When confronted about this, he denied this, not once but three times then later reused information in said private conversation. He did not want to put her onto a supervisor either. Since then the TIO has been brought in to investigate these issues and a day later Telstra confronted the young man and suspended his services over an ‘unpaid’ bill and a Foxtel IQ unit that has been unpaid for. He presented the receipt particulars of the bill, proving that it was paid and the Foxtel unit was provided several years ago under a sales promotion, offering it as a free addition to another package. Telstra have refused to reinstate his services until he pays this overdue bill that isn’t overdue at all. There are currently plans to take this matter to media outlets such as local and national newspapers and even contact A Current Affair to bring light to this disgusting behaviour and gross incompetence by Telstra and its employees.Similar opinion? Horrible Customer Support - AFL LIVE PASS
I purchased the AFL LIVE PASS while away in Thailand for a holiday. Wanting to watch a game of footy, I purchased the Weekly pass for $4.99. I checked all the T&C's and actually read it, however, had trouble locating it. I then got charged due to Auto-Renewal.
While I went to try watch it, apparently I am now told that because I was overseas the video did not work as I got an error saying 'unable to play video'.
When I contacted Telstra, they just pretty much brushed it off and said it's my fault.
Disgraceful customer service, for an honest ...Read more
