Check Engine compression . A mechanic can do this for you. Also have him check the timing chain although they last the life of a car 250 000 is quiet high.

Other than that I would check all normal things Suspension Coolant system, belts etc. And make sure you do a Written Off report. What $ do they want.

I bought mine for $9100 with 88000 km

I own a 2001 Camry Conquest wagon manual 2.2. She has done approx 230000kms. What would be a ballpark figure for a clutch replacment on this model?
One workshop quoted $1600, does this sound like a fair price?

Hello Nigel. Sorry I can't help you as I have not replaced the clutch in my Camry. However $1600 sounds a lot - I avoid Toyota dealers and have luckily found a couple of really good mechanics that work from very small workshops. Would suggest you get another quote. Good luck, Greg.

Alfy12

Hi Nigel. Agree with Greg. Shop around. A good quality clutch kit is about $230 so the rest is labour. A good mechanic should do this job in about 5-6 hours on a front wheel drive car. That's an expensive hourly rate of over $200 per hour. Should find a mechanic to do it for $100 per hour plus parts. Should be closer to $1000. I've assuming your flywheel is ok and doesn't need machining. I charge $99 an hour for auto electrical services in country nsw.

My suggestion is you take it to a Toyota Australia workshop or a trustworthy honest and reliable mechanical shop to get the problem repaired as soon as possible as the brakes need the engines power to apply pressure otherwise the brakes do not work properly and you could get into a crash.

Would 3 children, 1 in a car seat and 2 in boosters fit comfortably in the back? Is there enough boot space for a pram and shopping, or some bags of clothes for an overnight trip? Thanks

Hi Bec14,
Sorry for the late reply, as I didn't check my email lately. We have a booster seat for our 5 yrs old son in the middle rear seat and my wife could sit comfortably beside the booster seat, so I think you might have 2 booster seat and one baby car seat given that they are not too big in sizes. Our son's booster seat is narrower than his previous baby car seat. Boot space is not too bad, again it depends on the size of the pram, if the pram is small then it should be ok for a few shopping bags and over night trip clothing . We had a Nissan xtrail before and the boot space was huge, we could had 3-4 suitcases in the boot for oversea trip to the airport, I don't think we can do that now with our Camry . But the drive comfort, fuel economy of the Camry is far better. But the best way to find out is to go to the car dealer and check out in person, so you could decide if the car has enough space for your need . I hope this help and sorry again for the late reply. Regards

Has anyone experienced 'whine' in 2013 range of Toyota Camry's ? Especially annoying at low speeds but if listen close enough is there even at high speeds. Was told scalloped tyres but now they had alternator and tensioner assembly replaced - but the whine is still there! This follows extensive and repeated requests to fix rattling/squeaking throughout dash area (now reasonably fixed).

I have a BMW 320d. The turbo diesel gives me good economy, but the services charges are killing me. I'm concerned with the long term, what to people think, am I better off to keep paying the absurd service charges, for longevity of the life of the BMW or go with the unknown life of the hybrid Camry, which will give me the same charges for fuel, but less charges on upkeep. ????
Thanks anyone. ????

The Camry Hybrid HL totally optioned up with sun roof is not much different from a Lexus in features and quality and I would imagine is a lot less expensive to buy than any BMW. Having recently purchased this Camry Hybrid HL and based on my previous top of the range Camry Grande which travelled 300,000 km over 13 years without ever missing a beat, I am confident that my recent acquisition will provide a similar level of longevity with the only major maintenance cost being the main battery in about 8-10 years time, at which time I am quite confident that new battery technology will have advanced to the stage where the cost of replacement will be a lot less than it is now by a long shot! A big surprise is the fuel economy savings (~4.2L per 100km) when driving in peak hour traffic

As far as servicing costs are concerned, my first 10,000 km service is happening on Tuesday and the dealer cost of this service is just $130, a benefit which applies annually until the car reaches $75,000 km.

For the suspension issue you could try going to Monroe shocks or as inappropriate have heard pedders suspension shocks are good as well otherwise body roll might occur and the car probably would not be as safe.

Thanks AngusM, so far I have received different quotes from Toyota service centers ranging from $367 to $190, and was wondering as to why when there is supposed to be a fixed price service cost the price has so much difference between service centers. two of the prices came from my local Toyota service center and when I asked as to the difference i was told that the Hybrid requires specialist technicians, and service equipment so this required a higher service price to the customer.

Thanks for posting this additional information. My response was simply based on the arrangements that were offered to me when I purchased the vehicle from our local dealer - I assumed that this was part of an Australia wide offer. Maybe this is a question of simply checking the main Toyota web site where the offer is quite clearly spelt out; in fact I discovered that the service charge is $130 for vehicles purchased after February 2012

i.e. Under Toyota Service Advantage, Camry Hybrid is entitled to up to 5 standard scheduled services at $130[B20] each for the first 4 years or 75,000km (whichever occurs first). Service intervals on Camry Hybrid are every 9 months or 15,000km (whichever occurs first).

I have just recently purchased a used 2012 Camry hybrid H and I am really happy with most aspects of the car. I thing I have found unusual is the reported fuel tank size which has been officially stated at 65 litres. On a recent road trip I managed to average 5.8lts/100kms & approx. 870klms which was fantastic. The cruzing range was down to about 35kms and the fuel warning light was on from about the estimated 80kms range. I filled up with only 51 litres of fuel??(which calculates correctly) Why are the other 14 litres of tank capacity not included in the cruzing range?? If this is buffer I think it is definitely overkill. I estimate that I would have around another 240 km left in the tank even though the vehicle is reporting close to empty at the 870km range? A 5 litre buffer is more than enough to ensure there is enough range to get to a fuel station. Does anyone else find this?

Tigeroo, coincidentally, I encountered the same situation (with similar stats that you have cited) just this past week. However, I suspect that this has something to do with the rolling fuel consumption average because when I filled up the vehicle with fuel after completing a low fuel consumption run from Canberra to Sydney, I noted that the predicated range has increased to 1006 km. There must be a way to clear the data in the fuel consumption computer, but I am yet to discover this yet. BTW, despite all of this I have noted that the fuel consumption comparison over the same long distance sector from my previous V6 Camry has improved by 52%!

Tigertoo
Tigertoo

Thanks AngusM. Sounds like you are on to something there. I will definitely check that out.

That is an incredible fuel saving!! And you probably have just as much usable power as the V6. I purposely drove as "normal" as I could and it easily returned the 5.8ltr/100kms. I am sure I could get more out of it.
Happy Hybrid Driving!!

Interestingly, I found the original Dunlop SP300E tyres on 2010 Altise to be reasonably quiet, but not long wearing. I would suggest a wheel alignment at your local tyre shop.

Michelins or Goodyears will most likely turn your duckling into a graceful swan. I have seen this many times and then I would never fit Dunlops when given a choice. I had a Merc wandering all over the road, it felt unstable and I replaced the tyres with Goodyear and had a "new" car. Michelins have perfomed well in the past and will most likely provide a more stable, quiet and softer ride.

Hi Sanjay, This can happen in any car and is usually caused by residual a/c condensate. We do not have it in our Camry but have had it in previous cars. Mention it at your next service and they should be able to flush the condensate line.

I think it is a good deal. The only thing I am against, personally, is tinted windows as they do hinder proper vision. If the car is for Family use, I would suggest no tinting in the interests of safety. But, again, that is my opinion only.
