Might run good for a while but when there is a problem, you're stuck!
Stick to Japanese eg. Toyota, mitsubishi, honda etc or Korean eg. Hyundai, Kia. If you buy a VW, when a problem occurs (and inevitably it will), parts and servicing are EXTREMELY expensive. It's a European car!! My Tiguan just died one day. Wouldn't start at all. Got stranded in the middle of the night. Nrma couldn't even tow it because it has an electronic handbrake so this had to be disengaged first. What a nightmare! An intermittent electrical fault is the issue. Way to hard a job for your local mechanic without the specialised diagnostic equipment. Off to the VW dealer. Several weeks and a few thousand dollars later and still no fix. VW Tiguans really are the motorists worst nightmare! Don't risk it. Stay away from VW like the plague.

It is a perfect car!!
Tiguan is a great SUV suitable for a family or a couple. The engine is so powerful for urban road and also be good for a long trip. The high-tech in the car is so easy to use and pair with our mobile to play music or use navigation when I am driving or relaxing.

perfect car so far
very good car so far
been driving to work usually.
occasional trips with steep roads and the car managed really nicely.
spacious inside and trunk, plenty of room for a family.
fuel cost around 9-10L/100km
only downside is because my car is built in 2015, navigation is still old on screen rather than new apple carplay.

As a new car I am still learning of the modern features in this vehicle, and how to make the most of
I enjoy driving this car because it handles well, and is very comfortable. There is plenty of leg room in the rear seats, and storage if the rear seats
are lowered. I am still getting used to the engine stopping when at a standstill at traffic lights, but realise that there is a switch to cancel this feature.
As I have only owned the car for a month I can't comment on the reliability or running costs, but am hopeful that I will be happy with the costs.

VW rubbish
First the diesel emissions debacle, then the air con packed it in, now have a coolant n oil leak on a car with less than 64k km on the clock.
My suggestion, stay away.
The old VY Commodore I had was a better more reliable drive n infinitely cheaper n easier to fix.

Great Drive
For a compact 4x4 wheel it is very comfortable roomy and frugal on petrol. Cannot fault its performance, handling and noise level. It is easy to get in and out of and safe too. Great for towing a lightweight Caravan. There is lots of baggage space. Just love this Tiguan.

TDI is excellent.
We bought the 2011 a couple of months back and so far we are loving it. Drove many other cars, but just couldn't go past the solid, well put together feel of the Tiguan. I love every drive, the commute is now enjoyable with easy bluetooth operation, heated seats, great climate control and the panoramic roof just makes it feel open and spacious. Very quite, the stop start is genius and can be easily controlled by the brake and the auto hold function or just switched off. Fuel economy is unreal, I think it's a 65 litre diesel tank, so $70-80 ...Read more
to fill and we get 850kms out of it in stop start city traffic! Bloody amazing. It's not the fastest car on earth, but has a nice, useable torque that feels fun and is addictive. The sports mode works well too. Have not taken it off road, but with the AT tyres I had fitted I'm sure it will do fine for what it is. So nice to be able to hop curbs etc without worry. Handles really well, ample room for 5 adults, good roof height, very versatile with front passenger seat able to fold flat, great for those trips to bunnings or IKEA. We are happy with the Tiguan.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Great car.
It's hard to believe I've had this car for 7 years. I'm about to click over 170,000.
Whilst there has been some expensive fixes ( main belt, and faulty aircon), I have been quite happy with this diesel car.
My tow bar is handy, and the all wheel drive puts you totally at ease and in control . I'd buy another one,
Cheers.

Gremlins detract from a great vehicle.
While an economical, well appointed and comfortable vehicle to drive, our Tiguan experience has been tainted by electrical gremlins. Right from the first service we explained to the dealer that the battery was going flat after a few days of inactivity. The Volkswagon assist had visited us twice and the second time replaced the battery in case it was the cause of the battery drain. We explained at the next service that this had not rectified the problem and that the battery was still discharging if we did not drive it over the weekend. The servi...Read more
ce department told us to make sure the car was locked when we were not using it to help the computers to reduce automatic checks on the vehicles status thus helping keep the battery charge up.To cut a long story short we ended up keeping a C-tec on the battery when ever we were not driving it and carried a jump starter in the car at all times. After a 4 day break from driving the vehicle and forgetting to connect the C-tec the car would not start. As we were nearing the end of the warranty period we made a last effort at rectifying the annoying problem. The car was booked in for it's 40,000km service and we asked that a thorough examination of the electrical system be made to isolate the discharge problem. To back this up we also contacted VW Australia head Office customer support group. The final explaination after checking the systems over a 4 day period was that there was no discernible problem with the vehicle and that it must be the battery. They agreed to replace it again so 3rd battery in 3 years. The customer department explained that all vehicles, if left for a few days, need to have the battery recharged. REALLY !! Oh well, next car will not be a VW.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Unreliable $40K car
I bought this VW Tiguan 2011, 103 TDI model. We were weighing between Subaru forester and VW Tiguan and I chose the obvious wrong one.
Pros: Stable car with no blind spots.
Cons: 1. interior rear cup holder broke in first year.
Air con malfunctioning in the 2nd year.
Was part of 2 recalls.
DSG broke down in 5 years time.
now faulty steering rack.
Lucky nothing ontowards happened to my family but I would not buy a Unreliable car for $40k next time. I hope you do not make the same mistake I did.

Not a bad SUV
Had this car for two years, its done 20,000 km, very easy to drive and has performed good, the economy has been ok, I know this car is subject to recall for the current diesel program upset, so I hope the economy stays as is. My only grip is the limited cargo/boot area, its pretty small and I understand this has been corrected in the latest model (2017). It hugs the road well, very little noise on the road and the AWD is good, except the diesel is a bit slow to respond when you need it for overtaking or quick entry onto the highway. There is plenty of room inside and the steering wheel controls are well placed to keep your eyes on the road and not searching for buttons or knobs.

Excellent compromise between comfort and practicality
I bought my new gen Tiguan 2.0TDI Highline in November 2016, and 8,000km on I have nothing but praise for it. I purchased the car in Christchurch from Miles Continental (the best dealer experience I have ever had) and drove straight back to Auckland - a distance of exactly 1,000km. The car is incredibly spacious and very quiet at cruising speeds, handles well (it's really quite sporty) while retaining an excellent ride. Economy was great too, averaging 5.9l/100km - pretty good for a brand new engine.
For the price, the equipment level is very ...Read more

Absolutely brilliant.
Absolutely brilliant to drive has all the mod cons one expects from a new car, handles great and very minimal noise can be heard. Once I mastered the technical side of the dash it works like a charm, legroom isn't a problem for the front and rear passengers. My Tiguan is exceptionally reliable and the running costs is what probably lets it down slightly as 95/98 unleaded petrol in our regional area doesn't fluctuate in price like normal unleaded and the servicing is on the expensive side but for all the safety features it was I don't mind paying a little more for comfort.

Gotta Love It!
We bought a 2nd hand 2013 Tiguan TDI from Frankston Volkswagen and it has been fantastic. It is so economical and quiet for a diesel. It has the 103 kW engine (not the larger kW model) so it can sometimes be a little sluggish after the initial quick takeoff (that's the reason for the 4 out of 5 stars). Inside, the cabin is roomy, quiet, very comfortable and there are loads of gadgets (I'm a gadget geek). The panoramic sunroof is great to use (but I do wonder about the life/durability of the white perforated screen) and the passengers in the bac...Read more

Creature comforts included
It is a very comfortable car to drive - there's no bumps on the road driving through the burbs. It has the modern media functions - in-car call features and instantly taps to the android or iphone. But with the fancy assist parking and rear camera, it is still a beast to park, especially since it is a wider car. I have been avoiding parking spaces where I would have parked with our other car. And I have had problems with this car - the catalytic converter indicator came up - had to take it to the dealer, they plugged it into the laptop and turned the light off, and recently it started kangaroo hopping which needed a service.

Worst car I have ever owned
I bought my car second hand when it was 3 years old. Big mistake-do not buy one of these unless you have a warranty. At least then you just have to deal with the inconvenience of being without your car instead of the huge repair costs!
My car always needed oil in between services, lights popping up on the dash was a weekly occurrence, seat belt malfunctions, spark plugs, boot unable to open, electronic handbrake defect, water pump leak needing replacement, fuel injectors. Always some problem! I would get it fixed and think that was it but it w...Read more

Just love this car...
This car cost twice what my first house cost to build, back in 1976, but I love it. Smooth, silky gear changes that are barely noticeable, power to move when I want it, gadgets to help make up for my increasing loss of faculties, space, comfort and that amazing panoramic sunroof. Clever bright lighting to help me find the car and get into it, to see around corners and read street numbers, the instrument panel that I can change around, the only thing it lacks is a massaging function on the seat, which is an option overseas. The options don't all...Read more
ow me to call it a 140 TDI R-Line, but that is what it is. I use the radar cruise control and lane control full-time, but disable the stop-start function. Back-seaters love the legroom and the clever fold-up tables and coffee-cup holder. And today with an armful of golf clubs, the foot-waving rear hatch opening made things easier. This is one well-equipped car.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Good choice in price range
The new model of the Tiguan is much better than the old one. Great drive and nice additional features like App connect.
Only downside is space in backseat when you have child car seats. Better than the old model, but still very cramped.
Back seat moves so you can increase or decrease boot space as needed, which is a very helpful feature

Really love the car, but the engine design is seriously problematic!
We bought a 2nd hand VW Tiguan TDI which surprised us with the drive quality, the build quality, even after 130,000km. Then, comes the dreaded call from a family member out driving the car. "It's stopped on Parramatta Rd and won't start again. There's all sorts of lights on the dash...what do we do?" A call to NRMA, a tow to an excellent mechanic in the East of Sydney ([name removed], you and your guys are fantastic!) and we find out that both engine belts have gone, a textile belt that operates the alternator to keep up battery power (maybe ai...Read more
r-conditioning, I'm not certain about that) and the big baddie of modern cars, the timing chain that turns the camshaft that operates the valves. It is usually changed at 120,000Km, so it needing replacing wasn't a shock. What was a shock, is that VW, in all its wisdom, feels that automotive engineering theory of camshaft design doesn't apply to them. I'll expand, if I may. The camshaft (two apparently - it's a double over head camshaft) lets fuel in and exhaust out. Normally, each is a single piece of carved steel. It's been this way as long as engines have had over head valves in their design. Volkswagen seemingly feels that solidity is not an essential requirement in such a vital engine component and they make theirs in several pieces for some reason. Therefore, when the timing chain broke, the sideways pressure broke the splines between the sections of the camshaft and meant that they all had to be replaced. So, what should have been maybe a $2500 repair, now ends up costing nearer to $6000 and means that we had a car off the road for more than 2 weeks. VW, your cars are great, we can really feel the synergy that comes from being part of one of the most innovative Automotive groups in the world. However, if something should be redesigned, please don't come up with something that seems to be redesign for no reason. This flies in the face of reason, to say the least!Similar opinion? OK but another brand next time
I have owned a VW before so bought a Tiguan last time round but will not be buying another VW for our next car. The car has been OK but nothing great. The ride is relatively rough and boot very small compared to equivalent SUVs like the Nissan Xtrail. The ride is quite rough and there is not a proper spare with one of those silly small wheels that has a low speed rating. Service is expensive at VW running between $600 to over $1k per service even though I have not done much mileage so I choose Ultra Tune for services and forget about the s...Read more
tandard log book service. Everything was an "optional" extra when I purchased the car. For example the Xenon lights were something like $4k extra so I did an upgrade from an after market supplier although would not recommend that approach. Not sure what the car is worth now given that it is one of the diesels with emission issues so not sure what I will get to trade up to another SUV so will not buy another VW. Interesting that VW is not forthcoming with any compensation. In comparison, my last Nissan had an issue after the three year warranty expired and they did a full engine rebuild with new pistons at no charge including a loan car for the period of repair.Similar opinion?
