The Third Westingouse in 50 Years - Says it all really.
I grew up with a Westinghouse fridge in the 60's.Now I am onto my third in 50 years.Actually was sad to see the old one go after 20 years, but this one is a beauty ! It's my first frost free...frost free !! ..yipee... and was a bit worried about compressor noise but It's quiet .I hardly notice it, and it's in an open plan kitchen dining living area. The fridge design is well thought out and made of high quality materials and crisp finish -easy to clean. You can order "add ons" like extra bins and dividers if you wish. The catalogue was excellent.O...Read more
ne minor gripe..no light in the freezer. And if you had a top mount and you are thinking of getting a bottom mount do your home work and compare freezer sizes. The ice maker takes up the equivalent volume of two loaves of bread.Swings and roundabouts.

Fridge Door very hard to open
I bought this fridge about 12 months ago and the door is so tight sometimes that I have to yank it hard in order to open it. I thought the problem was because it was new, but it is not and is still the same. I would like to hear from anyone who has the same problem. The fridge is otherwise very good.

Impressed, looks good and versatile.
Got one this morning & it was like xmas unpacking. Shelving was well taped & padded for transport.
Was plugged in immediately and achieved factory set fridge temperature in matter of 2-3 hours.
Quick freeze button helped keep my transferred frozen items from thawing. So swap over went well.
Love the new handles, no bruising with no jut out parts yet big enough to grab without looking or breaking nails.
Sides textured finish, not so good for magnets or keeping clean but time will tell.

My new fridge never cools
My new Westinghouse WBE4500 was delivered today. After six hours of operating, it doesn't cool down and the alarm starts to beep every 50 mins. I have to turn it off and wait to ring customer service tomorrow to find out what's going wrong. I did some research online and found people normally let their new fridges 'settle' for a few hours before turning it on. But the installers from the Good Guys didn't say anything. they just plugged it in and left. Not sure whether this was the cause.

So pleased with this fridge it's so quiet
I read some reviews before buying this fridge but I have to say that I am very happy with it.
Not only is it spacious its so quiet now I realize how much my old one was struggling.
Amending the temperature is easy although the factory settings are working just fine am happy to recommend it.

So glad I bought this - no more repetitive bending for dodgy knees and back
I bought this fridge/freezer because I wanted a bottom mount freezer so that I didn’t have to bend or squat to get stuff from the fridge and it was one of the few models which fitted in the fridge/freezer space in my kitchen
It’s great having the fridge on the top and the freezer at the bottom.
But I have found a few minor drawbacks:
1. I am unable to store as much in the freezer because it has drawers instead of shelves and there is no “in the door” shelving. On the upside, it is more hygienic as you can store cooked meat etc separat...Read more
ely from raw meat. 2. The special ice compartment and quick freeze tray are a waste of space for me. I never use them and would have preferred more general freezer space. 3. The fridge door has a really strong seal/magnet which makes it difficult to open if you’ve opened and closed it a few times in quick succession. You have to wait a minute or so for it to slacken off. 4. The freezer door doesn’t close of its own accord so you have to make sure to close it.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Noisy!
I find this fridge very noisy. My previous fridge was a Westinghouse and did not have this issue. The condenser appears to make a deeper more penetrating noise than other fridges I've had, and the noise is on most of the time I'm at home. Even when I come home from work and haven't opened the fridge for 10-12 hours, the condenser is on and noisy. In my open plan unit, I have to turn the TV up loud to block the fridge noise, and I can hear the fridge from my bedroom. Friends who also bought this fridge around the same time have made the same complaint about it being noisy.

Love this fridge!
Very happy with this brand and the original white colour is perfect and stays stain free. It is energy efficient and doesn't make a sound. It very spacious and the fridge on top is convenient for frequent use. I only wish the freezer had a better ice-making device, this one is the traditional manual ice trays, it can get stuck at times.

This is the best fridge we have ever owned. It meets all of our needs, no it exceeds all of our needs and expectations. We previously had a Bosch and it was a BOMB. The Westinghouse is super quiet and very power efficient as it can be run of a very low setting and still keep things cold.

Great fridge
Few tips for the previous reviewer. Firstly the vacuum sealing door will become much easier over time and is standard on most new fridges, besides when do you need to go back into a fridge repeatably within seconds? Also, the heat on the outside panels was probably because the fridge was running hard to reach temp from new. We have had this fridge for a few weeks now and it is quite and great in every way. Some people are just plain wingers.

Do not buy
Good Guys were basically giving it away (i wonder why)
Replaced a smaller fridge (westinghouse RJ422V) and has LESS ROOM! freezer didn't even fit half the stuff transferred from the old freezer. Didn't fit all the stuff from the door compartments. The side of the fridge is almost too hot to touch. Just avoid like the plague.
Door is impossible to open because it creates a huge vaccuum. Gotta shake the thing to open it which means anything you have on top of the fridge will fall behind it. Oh, and even though the fridge part is at the top,...Read more
the handle is not at arm height. You have to unnaturally reach DOWN to open the door. The delivery guy tried to get me to sign for it at my front gate. Nice try buddy. I made him put it in before I would sign for the delivery. I wonder why he was so keen to dump this garbage and run. EDIT: after a month or so of use, I can add that I have not noticed the noise complained of in other reviews. Also opening the fridge, there is a little flat space in front of the crisper. This is useful to use as a shelf for things like making bottles for children. The door doesn't open far enough though, and totally gets in the way in a small kitchen.Similar opinion? Very noisy.
Just brought this fridge a few weeks ago. It has a Very loud fan noise when running, completely dominating the serenity of a small flat every half an hr for 10 min. Seem to be freezing food in fridge as well. Dont buy. Soooo disappointed and feel jupped by westinghouse.

Great fridge
We are a family of three and this fridge really suits our needs. The freezer being on the bottom is great. As we use the fridge more than the freezer it is easy to see inside as it sits at eye level. There is more room in the freezer than it looks and the clear front on the drawers make it easier to see whats inside the freezer.

Westinghouse WBE4500WA a cheap & poor product
Having had the one Phillips fridge/freezer for over 30 years (and still going strong) we decided to update our kitchen but unfortunately, the old fridge didn't suit the new kitchen.
My wife found a good looking fridge which had the freezer compartment at the bottom which made sense as the kids are all grown and no longer live with us, so we hardly use the freezer section. So we purchased a new Westinghouse Fridge/Freezer... the above model.
Recently, our Westinghouse refrigerator got damaged from a small jar falling from the top shelf to...Read more
the mid-base. This small jar (weighing 80grams) had caused a crack in the plastic at the mid-base of the unit (between the fridge/freezer section) which would allow any spillage into the actual unit. This refrigerator at the time was 3 months old and seems to be made from a cheap form of plastic that can be broken by a light weight jar. The old Phillips had many items fall inside and never damaged any of its compartments. When deciding to buy a new fridge/freezer... but be fooled by looks... this fridge model looks good but unfortunately is made from cheap material that can be damaged by a small light weight jar... nothing like the older (hard wearing) fridges of days gone by. Well, I guess we’re lucky it wasn’t a 600 gram Vegemite jar!!2 comments

Thanks Leslie... but we attempted to get a positive result from Westinghouse for the last 3 months but didn't. No one wanted to come out to look at the damage let alone attempt fix it. All they could ... Read more
offered was a replacement new fridge for $800 or for us to pay $145 for someone to come out and look at it (not fix it... that may cost more). I'll make an honest effort to fix it by buying a white protective plastic for the mid-base in case a jam jar falls.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Noisy, not suitable to open plan living
tech out twice for same issue, small pipe at back of fridge vibrates loudly when compressor turns on. so loud you can hear it all over the house even with two doors closed in between, very upsetting as size is great but would return if could as rattling noise very irritating, stopped for 4 weeks after first tech visit, then one week after next visit now louder than before

Can you be sure if it's a Westinghouse?
Having had a Westinghouse for 23 years I was happy to stay with this brand, however, soon after turning the new one on it began to make a shrill noise. Upon visiting, the technician quickly agreed to a replacement, but although the new one is not making the same shrill noise, I find, as another reviewer has, that there is an annoying pulsating noise when the compressor is running. In an office or busy location, or indeed to some people, that me be acceptable, but in a quieter place such as where I am, I find it less than acceptable. I expected better from Westinghouse/Electrolux

Four months on and two dents in side walls.
I have had this fridge for four months. Works well, runs quietly & smoothly and keeps food fresh. Some difficulty in releasing ice out of the twist trays so I take them out to release, meaning this is a useless feature. I have the white model and the sides are made out of an lighter/inferior metal to the front. The front (doors) are smooth and solid, but the sides are of a stippled look. I have dents on both sides from unknown causes. My old Kelvinator fridge was used in the same space and conditions but no dents at 30 years of age. Overall I'm happy with the size and function, but disappointed in the construction.

Questions & Answers
Daveasked
I bought the WBE4500WA in June 2016. I had no problems until about 10 days ago. The fridge compartment got warm. I called a local repair person. He took out the plate at the back of the freezer and used a heat gun to melt the ice on the coil - about one third of the coil was iced up. He said it could happen again in a few days or it might not happen again for a year. Six days later the fridge compartment was warm again. We took off the plate at the back of the freezer and melted the ice with a hairdryer. Fridge cooled down again. The repair person said that it could be any one of a number of things and he could change them all one by one but despite this the problem could still recur.
So it looks as if we'll have to buy another fridge as there is no point paying for repairs if the problem may not be fixed. It won't be a Westinghouse after this experience.
I think it is quite ridiculous that a fridge should fail so soon. Our neighbours also had problems with Westinghouse fridges - had 2 or 3 that had problems soon after purchase and ended up buying another brand.
We bought our first fridge-freezer in 1981 - a Kelvinator. We had it for 17 years and it was still working fine. We only changed it because we were moving and my husband thought that the move might affect the fridge so we got rid of it. Then we had just a small bar fridge for about 4 to 6 years - no problems. In the early 2000s we bought a second hand Westinghouse from friends who were moving. We had no problems with it at all. We only got rid of it because I have back and hip problems and I wanted a bottom mount fridge. We gave the old Westinghouse to a local op shop.
