An insurance policy that won't cover corona virus related events.
I purchased an annual worldwide insurance policy only to find not only have I wasted my money on flights, prepaid accommodation, and other travel related costs but also the $546 I was charged for the insurance policy.
1Cover is refusing to cover events relating to corona virus.
I have taken out their worldwide annual cover for a number of years without a claim. However I will not be taking out any more policies with this company and strongly encourage others to do the same.
They also make many unwanted phone calls in the weeks before the previous policy expires to try to sell a new policy.
Awarding this lot one star is over generous.

No epidemic or pandemic cover.
1cover does not cover for epidemic or pandemic, regardless of when you purchased your insurance and the epidemic or pandemic was announced. This is not an an industry-wide standard, as Sophie from 1Cover misleading claims. It is only a few insurance companies that do this. Most will cover if you took out the policy before the announcement. My annual insurance is now worthless. My fault for not reading their exclusions. Never again 1Cover. You have lost my business into the future and I suspect the business of many many more people.

Lisa Kable, communications manager for the Insurance Council of Australia, told Guardian Australia that after Dfat made its announcement on 23 January on the risk of travel regarding coronavirus, it became a “known event” for insurers that is adjusted for coverage. “If people are travelling and bought their travel insurance before it became a known event the majority of travel insurance policies should cover people if they contract coronavirus overseas, or if their trips have to be moved around countries or places. “If you bought it after, most travel insurers exclude pandemic, epidemic disease or infectious disease or a known event.”

Holiday Protection
I took out the insurance in case I had to cancel my golfing trip, however, I did not have any issues where I needed to make a claim. Therefore I can't relate to any service I might have received.

No cover for corona virus unlike other insurance - has a cut-off date
Was hoping that they might reconsider as the policy was purchased mid last year way before this epidemic in China. Other insurance providers states that they will cover as long as policy was purchased before Jan 23, 2020 or some even Jan 30, 2020. Please read the fine print - not the kind of insurance that will help when needed most in this scenario. Was going to travel to other parts of ASIA with no ‘do not travel’ warning from DFAT yet still no cover for the coronavirus as it is considered an epidemic in China even though not yet a pandemic as per WHO for now. So please be careful when purchasing travel insurance.

Bought Insurance June 2022 for April 2020 trip - not covered for pandemic
No cover when really needed. List of general exclusions is more extensive than others, so do your research and check others - you won't buy from 1Cover 'comprehensive' if you do! Corona virus coverage
I bought travel insurance for a upcoming overseas trip before corona virus was even heard of. They have a blanket statement saying they will not cover it at all. So if you get sick you are on your own and if you cancel they will not cover you

Not all is as seems read PDS closely
Read the PDS very carefully not many things they will actually pay on, I thought person items would be covered, no there not.
Save your money and go with a much cheaper option.

Didn't have me covered when I needed it.
We have used 1 Cover in the past and never needed to make a claim until now. We were broken into while staying with family in Zambia. All of our cash was stolen during the night, from our room, while my husband, our two young kids and myself slept. When we woke the next morning and made the call, the lady told us "not to worry as we were covered for theft of cash". Can't fault the way my claim was handled
I had a ski accident in Canada and fractured my collarbone. Claimed medical costs, prepaid lift tickets and rental gear. Easy process to claim, took a week to assess. Proposed settlement seems very fair - exactly as per PDS. Have been told to expect payment in a fortnight. Really happy that 1Cover follow through on the expectations they set. I recommend it for ski insurance and will keep using them. Hope not to have to claim ever again!!!

Easy online application
Suffered motorbike accident on day 3 of holiday - broke ankle and smashed phone. Bought replacement phone.
Claim was straightforward and thankfully PDS was in plain English. I was compensated value of old phone minus excess which I felt to be fair. Good value and covered exactly as expected
My Family and I got influenza while on a ski trip. First time using 1Cover and they confirmed if we needed any further assistance while we were away and then promptly approved our claim for medical expenses and ski ticket and hire reimbursement on our return. Their online lodgement was a bit clunky but their staff were helpful and covered our costs exactly as expected.

Unfair Terms and Conditions
No cover for transit less than 4 hours in case flight delayed (out of your control situation).
Other travel insurance providers provide much better coverage options. What's the point of insurance if you aren't covered when your require help.

very hesitant to help
My partner and I have been using 1cover for years but will be switching. The service they provided for my partner was unexceptable. Very reluctant to help out and get back to us in time. There is a reason we purchase insurance while away. If they cannot help out what’s the point?

We lodged our claim 7 weeks ago and it still hasnt been approved. We have been given the run around with them asking for more and more information. Very distressing and upsetting. I have provided 1cover with everything that they have asked for and still they wont pay our claim.

Don't use this company if you have a second hand phone
If you are like me and refuse to pay thousands of dollars for a new phone it is very likely you won't have proof of purchase for your phone (I purchased mine from a gumtree seller). My phone was stolen overseas, a claim was lodged and everything but proof of purchase was provided to the insurers yet they refuse to pay out any money (Everything else they asked for was provided - IMEI, Police report, bank statements and device location - which shows last login detail as well). Don't use them if you have a second hand phone - they are no help.

Why aren't 1cover refunding money for a risk that will never happen? After months no phone contact and useless bulk generated email. Other companies ARE returning the full premium and answering phones. Australian Seniors is one. Never when I read the clause about pandemics did I think that this would include stealing the full premium when I would never get off the ground. Good business model for the future guys. Theft and no service. Vote with your feet and tell all your friends how great this company is. Why cant we ring? Don't give us the rescuing people story any longer!

Asked the same question myself three weeks ago - no risk to the company because we can't even leave the house for a trip to a country whose borders are closed anyway. But have heard nothing other than I'm in a queue and they will contact me in turn. Very poor customer service.
