APIA not for pensioners
Not satisfied at all. My mothers green slip went up without notification, because they claim that she had an accident (but didn't claim) Then because they couldn't send out an amended greenslip, sent her a letter saying that if she didn't pay the difference they would cancel her rego. Won't be going back to APIA again as they are dearer by far and make no allowances for no internet or credit card. Very not happy

Might as well have no insurance
Avoid like wild fire! Repairs and paints one side of the bumper and leaves the rest damaged! This is how they work, exactly in their words. Every excuse under the sun and cheapes/nastiest way to repair is approved!

apia car insurance
Over 55's and pensioners should check all other insurance before blindly taking out APIA. Apia is actually GIO masquerading as a stand alone company. All their ads show people who "saved" money. The facts are that there are cheaper insurance companies for pensioners and APIA is preying on gullible pensioners . If you cannot check on the net yourself get someone to do it for you..DONT GET SCAMMED!!

Car insurance
Policy was good value but customer service is crap they have no idea all they under the privacy law you need to give us all your private information well they need to learn what privacy questions they need to know as when they call you they want your private information and that is not right how do we know who they are I have now cancelled my policy as they have no idea you should only have to give them your name and policy number and maybe a password they don't need your bank details or the phone number your ringing from as they already have it in front of them. Wake up APIA and other insurance company's we now live in a time where we need to protect ourselves so come up with a different way to do things.

As an existing rating 1 APIA customer I received a phone quote for car insurance that seemed expensive, I then entered my details into the online site but in error put my neighbours house address. My quote when I corrected the address was 30% more!! Same car, garaged, the only variable change was the street number. I then entered all of my immediate neighbours addresses into to online site and discovered that it was only my address that was 30% more! The houses are similar in structure and in size. I have never made a claim and have been a customer of APIA for 3 years. It seems APIA take advantage of their existing customers. Very disappointing:(

Easy and satisfying claim
I find the premiums quite good value - not the cheapest but satisfactory. The recent claim I made was easy and worked a treat. Replacement hire car was simple and fast - the repair took a long time but that was because the manufacturer didn't have parts in Australia (!?!) so no fault of APIA. Happy customer for over 10 years now.

I was driving from the north coast and decided to ring and get this done, the first issue i rang but my phone dropped out they cant ring you back so i rang back and had to go through a hole speel again.

Rip off....Will be telling everyone I know what a con they are
My elderly mother, who is insured with APIA rolled her car in the recent bad weather. Her car was insured for an agreed value, she paid her insurance monthly and had paid her registration for a year. The car was only worth $1,800 and is a write off. APIA are taking the remainder of the yearly insurance, which is understandable. However they are also claiming the 7 months remaining registration. I questioned this, as registration is separate from fully comprehensive APIA insurance so what claim do they have on the registration money? I was told...Read more
it was in the Policy tucked away on page 55. where it states "We own the car salvage including any unexpired registration and CTP insurance except for NSW". I stated I doubted my 79 year old mother had read or understood the policy, she had only taken on board what had been disclosed to her by the person selling her the Policy. The women I spoke to herself acknowledged that not many people do actually read the Policies. APIA advertise they are for the elderly but they are not they prey on them. With all of APIA's "deductions" my mother will end up getting less that half of what she insured her car for. Absolutely disgusted with APIA.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Told to go ahead and pay for caravan aircon then dropped like hot potato
I have been with APIA some 15 years fully com (car and caravan) had one claim for pull out awning so when my air con motor burned out I rang them and all was ok. I said that I would pay for it and they would reimburse back in to bank. The price of air con was $2600 fitted, APIA gave me $1000.00 but I had to give them $200.00 excess so really I got $800.00. Now with other insurance and saving money.

APIA - I'd think twice before taking insurance with them again
Honestly, I'd suggest they have the best sales and customer service in Australia, very helpful, chatty etc. This was so much the case we transferred 7 policies from another major insurer (NRMA) whom we had been with for almost 20 years.
All goes well until you need to make a claim for a hail and water damaged vehicle. Their own approved repairer told us the vehicle was a write-off, then APIA towed the vehicle to another of their specialist repairers, and again they deemed it a write-off.
Then the vehicle was towed to Mannheim's (the Bermuda ...Read more

I contacted them once and they now continually contact me and it is becoming frustrating and inappropriate. I suggest not contacting them as it seems once you are un the system you won't find peace.

Inconsistent, inaccurate and conflicting.
Over past days I have received continual conflicting, inaccurate advice regarding vehicle repairs. Clearly the organisation is inefficient & staff are not managed appropriately. One operator gave me a 100% assurance that I would be reimbursed for travel expenses while others said definitely not. I also find that their policy [which I was advised had been changed since I took out my policy] that you cannot choose your own insurer is inefficient and does not cater at all well for clients living outside regional and/or capital cities.

marketing says they are "rewarding experience" that is rubbish they are rewarding themselves at senior Australians expense. If you want motor vehicle insurance look for a more reliable company even if it costs more [and often others are cheaper] any savings on premiums will be eaten up pretty quickly if you have the misfortune to make a claim. APIA are nothing more than a marketing concept which does not offer better, cheaper or more efficient service to its clients.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Ripped off Senior!
After making a no fault claim for my father and being informed the Car was a write off, it was very disappointing to be told that We cannot cancel the Registration with Vic Roads as the car now belongs to them. How is it fair that we pay for the Registration and Apia cancels it and keeps the refund. Apparently it is written in the fine print of the policy. I contacted VicRoads and was told there are a couple of Insurance companies that do this so make sure you all read the fine print !

Very Relieved
After reading all the bad reviews after my not at fault accident, and the person at fault was not insured, I was anxious to say the least. But my experience with Apia has been great.
Accident happened on a sat and it took till the Wednesday for the car to arrive at the accessing yard. It then took 8 business days for the vehicle to be assessed as a write off, which I felt was a long time. Assessor rang us on the Monday and said it will be processed between 5 - 10 business days but have had a call today (only 3 days later) to say claim all f...Read more

Rick Kasked
After your car is repaired and you cancell the policy does the life time guarantee still apply if you are still the owner of the car and you go to a different company
2 answers
"Life", in English, may refer to the life of the car, OR your lifetime, [perhaps another 50 years]? They should not cancel it while you are still alive. To stop the "lazy tax" [people who are too lazy to check competitors prices] we should check prices AND what the coverage is, every year or two [plus the star ratings on Product Review].
Hi Rick to be honest mate I'm so pissed with this company I actually dont care anymore even now two WEEKS after the accident I still dont have my car back but for sure I'll NEVER go back with them again the only good thing thats come out of this is the bad publicity they've gave themselves, just beggars belief aye ?

Didn’t know that’s one of reasons I left APIA
Try contacting Consumer Affairs & I think there is an Insurance Ombudsman who will act if they ignore your written requests. The manager may have gone off "sick" [due to "overwork"!] Request his underlings help you, & refer them to this widely read product review site, which is giving them even more bad reviews, & losing them LOTS of business!
Thanks Paul so disgusted with the level of unacceptable service I WILL be cancelling my policy I dont need a company that treats its customers in such a bad way, thanks for your reply mate its very much appreciated and a whole lot more than APIA did.....

Accidentally broke my back window today. It's going to cost me $375.00 how much can I claim for? [Name and Number Removed] Thank you.

The insurance co. will tell you. Why dont you ASK them? I believe you can claim the full amount, LESS any excess YOU have chosen.
