Unexcetable
My car insurance seemed to be quite good that was until I had a unfortunate accident and lodge a claim, well that was when it got ugly and there was no one nice to talk to at Apia anymore, didn't Evan ask if I was OK, actually didn't want to talk at all and were very unhelpful and unfriendly .one man in claims "steve"was unnessasry obnoxious and rude.
After more than two weeks of no communication from Apia to spite calling everyday I got a call from suncorp!! asking me very strange and irrelevant questions (privacy or intimidating??)without any ...Read more

Used to be great
Been a customer for many years with APIA/AAMI, with multiple private vehicles insured, they used to be great, now they are terrible, now looking for a non Suncorp Insurer. Since they changed from assessing locations and started using offshore call centres to process interaction with policyholders they have gotten worse and worse.

Cost
I was of the impression that this company was designed to help retired people but I found that there quote which was over $1000.00 was in excess of $300.00 more than the closest competitor. Needless to say I was very disappointed. I was told thatcher was a higher premium on a dual cab utility as the vehicle was used for work. I pointed out that I am retired and was using the vehicle privately both of which I had answered when receiving the quote. The answer was "well that's our quote and that's all there is to it." I have since purchased insurance with more add ons for less than $700.00. Please take the time to shop around.

Zero stars
Having all my policies with APIA I expected better. Took my car into CAPITAL SMART REPAIRS (not so smart). Being owned by APIA of course I wasn't going to get the best service. Car fixed in 2 days. Terrible repair. Accident wasn't my fault but I was without a car for 2 working days and the weekend. Due to the bad repair I need to be without a car again. I was told I didn't have rental car option turns out I did. I wrote in a complaint and have yet to hear back. It's been months. Most repairers tell me to go to their opposition also starting in ...Read more
A not 4 letters because that would be the same parent company. Time to pack my bags and leave. I got no loyalty from them despite having about 6 policies. Good service APIA-PATHETIC repair
I'm not an Apia customer-although I'm easily old enough to be-I've had dealings with them as one of their customers drove into me. I found the staff at APIA to be friendly, helpful and courteous. My prior to accident, perfectly straight, matching gaps and dent free Monaro came back from Avondale Motors with loose sill cover, front bumper cover hanging down, front right guard on crooked so the gaps to door and bonnet are all varied, rubber seal on sill fell off and orange-peel effect paint on drivers door! Explanation-'they are just made that wa...Read more
y' and 'there was a previous repair done wrong'. Funny-the car had nice gaps, nothing hanging off-even after the bump it looked better than it does now. Also, a surly old woman receptionist and a manager with attitude an made dealings very uncomfortable. SO, Apia seems to be good, but be careful about who they send you to for repairs-Don't be disappointed, don't let them send you to AVONDALE MOTORS in Dandenong.Similar opinion? Great and friendly service
Great value for home and contents along with a policy discount for adding my car.
Very friendly staff made it easy for me to understand.
Customer support was fantastic and when I made a claim I had nothing to do except pick up my car after being repaired.

EXCELLENT SERVICE
A small repair was needed when someone backed into my car and left. Luckily someone witnessed it and left me details which I passed to APIA. I was a bit worried as had only been with them 5 months, but my car was booked in within 2 days and back to me within 24 hrs. The repair is perfect. We were booked into Knoxfield, where they had a taxi waiting to take us to Clayton where we picked up a hire car. We dropped that down the next day and APIA arranged another taxi to take us back to Knoxfield to pick up my repaired car. I didn't have t...Read more
o pay any excess as it wasn't my fault, and it won't affect my premium. APIA followed up a few days later to check everything was ok with the guaranteed for life repair. We'd been with RACV for over 30 yrs but we never got this service from them. Never any hire car although we paid $100+ more for our policy. Re direct debit, from what I gather speaking to them, they will keep taking direct debits out unless you actually cancel your policy. We pay six monthly instalments so I've noted the end of the policy in my diary in case it doesn't come out although they say they send a new insurance document at the start of the 2nd year's policy. I'm happy with this arrangement as I know I'll be covered, assuming it all goes as it should and don't have to worry about forgetting to pay. With service like this, I'll be staying with them. Lots of bad reviews on them (and also for RACV), so I guess most people tend to review when things go wrong, but the happy ones like me don't bother which is why I've made the effort. Well done APIA KnoxfieldSimilar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Claims process woeful
Our 6 mth old car was a write off. They took a week to assess, then another week to confirm new for old replacement. They then took another week to confirm the particular make/model of replacement car. Each time we phoned for updates we were on hold for 30-50 minutes. The online claims info gives no detailed information. The claims officers do their best but they can do no more than read info from computer screen. I just wanted to speak to someone with authority who could tell me my options. The outcome was satisfactory, but the stress caused by APIA's processes was immense.

Simple and easy
Had to repair damage to my car caused by someone who hit and ran. This was my first claim with Apia, I found them to be pleasant and helpful with a very easy over the phone process. The only problem was that they gave me the authorisation to take the car to repairer 2 days after phone call, which I did. The repairer couldn't start work on the car for about 4 weeks, fortunately that was ok as the car was driveable. I had thought it odd that a repairer could start so quickly. I cant hold that against Apia because I wasn't inconvenienced as they were local. I also have House and Contents Insurance with Apia. I find them to be good value and provide excellent service.

Very poor customer service
Had house and car insurance with Apia. Requested to pay car insurance in full, not direct debit. Talked to 4 different operators before finally given ok. Paid house insurance six monthly instalments. When time for six monthly renewal, money debited automatically from bank account, no reminder of letter/email notification given. Rang Apia questioning this, very rude operator said dont have to send reminders. Operator said I have to update details? on my house policy to continue with policy. Then recieved letter stating that as I had changed det...Read more

Beware of APIA and CapitalSmart repairers owned by insurance company
If I could rate them with zero stars I would, the job they did on my vehicle was absolutely disgraceful. Firstly though it must be stated that APIA neglected to inform me, despite my queries, that CapitaSmart is owned by Suncorp which happens to also own APIA insurance, so that's the first part of their rort they never inform their customers that their 'approved repairer' may be their own repairer in your area. The second part of the rort is that they obviously are motivated to keep costs down to a minimum hence quick and very bad quality repai...Read more
rs. My vehicle was an 8 month old vehicle at the time of repair, in pristine condition except for a dint and scratch on the back rear panel caused by a child on a push bike. Not only were the repairs undertaken on the damaged panel utterly disgraceful but they also caused damage to another 4 panels on my vehicle. End result, the repair work has to be redone and half my car re-painted, back passenger window replaced, all black trims and rubbers, rear bumper replaced, etc. To ad insult to injury, they're now refusing to approve repairs at MY preferred repairer despite negligently damaging my brand new car and are insisting I go to one of their repairers. Soon as I'm done with all this I'm pulling out all my policies, apparently APIA is notoriously bad like this despite their warm & fuzzy commercials. Despite numerous attempts to contact people within APIA with some decision making powers, no one ever returns calls or follows-up. Criminals is all I can say, all they care about is their annual 1.4 plus billion profit for their shareholders, screw the customer.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Roadside assistance no such thing.
An attachment to a comprehensive policy. $84 pa. APIA will tow to the nearest repairer, so long as its not more than 20 kms from where you break down. If it is more than that, the only assistance they offer is to get a tow truck to call with a quote. You can't even pay for the extra Kms yourself. You will have to pay for the whole tow. I.E. no assistance from them at all. You are on your own. Ripped off.

Hoops and more hoops
I had to deal with Apia to recover money when one of their insured drivers damaged my property. Liability was admitted etc. The hoops, the delays and the misinformation I had to go through was unbelievable. No one gets back to you. I think it must be a ploy to wear you down so you give up and provide the APIA team with a win. Still waiting 4 months later. Its almost like you are the enemy.

Great customer service
I can only praise Apia. Had an accident on Sunday and the phone answered quickly. Received excellent customer service.I was able to drive the car home and Apia may arrangements for my car to get towed to a yard where the damage could be assessed. Even though there was a ten day waiting list for cars to be assessed I did not have to wait this long, somehow Apia must have got things arranged a bit quicker for because the car was sent to repairers within a couple of days of lodging a claim. It was 2 weeks and I had my car back. I was pleased. I have never lodged a claim for insurance before and APIA made it easy for me.

Kings of Finding a way NOT to Pay !
Cheap Car Insurance until you make a claim ! Then it hits the fan ! Incompetent arrogant assessor who didn't understand the problem when discussing with repairer. Long waits on the phone.... you give up and email them. Automated replies to emails that someone will contact you Shortly ... they never do! Stay away from APIA they do not know what Customer Service is about ! I guess you get what you pay for.

Run the other way and fast!!! Worst car insurance company - gio/suncorp/apia
In over 30 years with various insurance companies this is BY FAR the worst of them all. I have never experience such bad, arrogant and incompetent assessors and management in claims department. Put in a call to report an accident although not at fault but incompetent assessor refused to site the car after my insistence and declared it a statuary write-off despite the fact that Third Party (TP) came over to look at the car and said was cosmetic and repairable. Out of spite and aware of the independent TP outcome APIA assessor proceeded to de-re...Read more
gister the car. Unbelievable!!! Finally after more than 2 months of stress and agony my car was eventually re-registered and repaired. This is an example on how NOT to treat APIA/GIO or SUNCORP customers. It goes without saying that I will not be renewing my policy with APIA/GIO/SUNCORP.Similar opinion? After your car is repaired and you cancell the policy does the life time guarantee still apply if you are still the owner of the car and you go to a different company
2 answers
"Life", in English, may refer to the life of the car, OR your lifetime, [perhaps another 50 years]? They should not cancel it while you are still alive. To stop the "lazy tax" [people who are too lazy to check competitors prices] we should check prices AND what the coverage is, every year or two [plus the star ratings on Product Review].
Hi Rick to be honest mate I'm so pissed with this company I actually dont care anymore even now two WEEKS after the accident I still dont have my car back but for sure I'll NEVER go back with them again the only good thing thats come out of this is the bad publicity they've gave themselves, just beggars belief aye ?

Didn’t know that’s one of reasons I left APIA
Try contacting Consumer Affairs & I think there is an Insurance Ombudsman who will act if they ignore your written requests. The manager may have gone off "sick" [due to "overwork"!] Request his underlings help you, & refer them to this widely read product review site, which is giving them even more bad reviews, & losing them LOTS of business!
Thanks Paul so disgusted with the level of unacceptable service I WILL be cancelling my policy I dont need a company that treats its customers in such a bad way, thanks for your reply mate its very much appreciated and a whole lot more than APIA did.....

Accidentally broke my back window today. It's going to cost me $375.00 how much can I claim for? [Name and Number Removed] Thank you.

The insurance co. will tell you. Why dont you ASK them? I believe you can claim the full amount, LESS any excess YOU have chosen.
