Perfect for frothing like at the coffee shops
I drink a white coffee once a day so I was looking at Breville's coffee machines with frother and decided to try this one.
Very flexible on the grind size and adjustments can be made to get the right amount of ML for the shots.
The frother is very good at making flat whites / cappachino's etc.
Very high quality product and would recommend

Absolutely love it.
Temperature is great when making coffee. The machine is great, its sometimes hard to find the exact grind amount to get it in the perfect level especially when changing beans all the time. It takes about 5-10 seconds for the milk steamer to start after brewing the coffee but other than that its fanastic- especially at sale price

Great machine for coffee lovers!
To feel real taste of coffee, we need right seeds, right skills and right tools. Here Breville Barista Express is the right tool to grind, extract and frost perfect coffee. All in one machine, this also helps us to gain skills to make our own coffee.
Maintenance is not that hard. Really good value for money.

Unbelievable coffee from a small machine
We were looking to replace our broken Nespresso Umilk machine and wanted to move away from pods. Not only were we finding that the pods were too expensive, but the environmental cost was also a detractor. We settled on the Breville Barista Express since the built in burr grinder helps us to save space on our already cluttered kitchen benchtop.
The unit is perfect for this situation. It is quick enough to heat up and makes really good coffee - running circles around the Nespresso machine we previously had. It tastes better, and it's actually qu...Read more
icker to make a coffee manually in this machine than the supposedly automatic Nespresso pod machine. Cleaning is easy too - the instructions are clear and the water filter helps to keep the inside of the machine free from the elements present in tap water. Overall, I'd recommend this for anyone who needs a small machine and can't plumb it in. And as a bonus, it means we can try all the great coffee at our local roasters too!Similar opinion? Great machine with one major oversight
this makes really nice coffee, no question about it.
That said how on earth did Breville forget to put a water level indicator light on the front panel? This would be more useful that the pressure gauge which is a bit of a gimmick.
Too many times I have been caught half way through a brew where the water runs out and you have to start again, wasting coffee and wasting time.
I actually wouldnt buy another one based on this oversight, which is a shame

Awesome coffee machine! Easy to use and clean.
- I bought this coffee machine on a 20% off The Good Guys eBay sale.
- It makes an awesome coffee and the machine is easy to clean.
- It has a good level of adjustment meaning you can tweak it to make optimal coffee for whichever beans you use.
- I would recommend this machine for anyone looking to have an entry-level manual coffee machine.

My mornings are complete
This machine has changed my mornings for the better. I am now able to make cafe quality coffee at home. A bit fiddly at first but once you work out your grind quantity and coarseness everything is very easy. My only issue is the water reservoir rattles when the machine is using water, and the size of the reservoir could be a bit bigger.

Perfect small coffee machine for home use
Much better than the pod machines, it's the perfect machine without having to spend thousands on a proper barista machine from a cafe. I love being able to try new beans an experiment with it, you get a great crema when making a long black.

Was great while it lasted...
We absolutely loved this machine. However after about 2 years it developed some problems with the programming and wouldn't just give a shot of coffee. It would just pour continually. We followed the instruction manual with how to program it and reset it but made no difference. So it's been dishonourably retired.

The coffee shot won’t stop. Tried everything including customer care.
Buyer beware with this coffee machine. It was bought July 2017. It won’t pressurise anymore, never reaches espresso and the coffee shot literally doesn’t stop pouring out unless you turn it off. Do research breville and the faults before you buy. I’m going to look for a better quality, longer lasting brand and look into this further accc.

Made great coffee but 2 months out of warranty and stopped working. Makes 2 cups per day, not much usage in my book.
Was a present for my wife and I expected it to last longer.

Great machine
We use ours every day. Simple and easy to use without the huge price tag of other machines. Also like that the machine is a bit smaller than the more expensive models as saved on bench space. Straight forward to clean.

A little muscle needed for great coffee
I have been delighted with the quality the machine has produced.
The machine is extremely simple to use once you work out the correct grind size and grind quantity. This can take a little brain power, patience and wasted coffee until you titrate the settings to the correct pressure and crema. The instructions provide simple troubleshooting to help you resolve this initial phase.
The milk frother is great, and the jug provided is big enough for milk for two cappuccinos. I also like the warming plate on top and the hot water function to prewar...Read more
m your cups. You will find you may need to readjust the grind size and amount when changing between different brands of bean, so it is worth making a note of the perfect settings for each style of bean that you use for the next time to prevent wasting your precious coffee. Also, be aware you will need decent grip and wrist strength in order to adequately ‘tamp’ your ground coffee, and this may be problematic if you have weakened strength due to arthritis or other ailments- something to be aware of if purchasing for an individual of restricted physical ability. Assuming you can manage the small amount of physical force required, you will be enjoying perfect cafe quality coffee at home. My relatives now all come to my house for a coffee rather than go out. Feels like a cafe in my own home!
We were looking at changing from a pod machine for taste and environmental reasons. As we like to have our coffee different this machine allows us to use full bodied, crema and decaf in either beans or ground. I find it easy to use, and have had great results every time I make a coffee. I found the group a little tight at first however that soon loosened up and now it can be done quickly and one handed if needed. The wand is easy to use and has plenty of movement to get the angle right for the desired end result. The noise level is good, it is easy to fill the water tank, and cleaning is also easy. It doesn't take up alot of room on the bench and the brushed stainless steel look keeps it fresh and clean looking

Turns my home into my personal cafe
I love this coffee machine, have now had it for 2 months and have enjoyed the bonus beans that were offered as a promotion at purchase.
It is so easy to use and maintain you'll never consider a pod coffee machine again.
Must admit I get a bit of a kick out of trying to texture milk, actually find joy in making my own coffee.
Bonus is im saving money by not going out for coffee.
Absolutely recommend, machine produces quality coffee to yoir taste and is very easy to maintain.

Amazing! Perfectly automated for espresso, in-built Grindr - powerful little thing! Best upgrade
We are stoked with our recent upgrade!!! Makes perfect espresso, with the best Crema! The beanz last in this inbuilt grindr and stay so fresh, saving us an absolute fortune in coffee costs and heats up straight away (30 seconds) we keep ours on, huge water storage to keep the hot water and steam flowing, quite for the size of it and looks great. Seriously a barista quality machine, we upgraded from the smaller Breville and will never look back, big enough to fit a LARGE mug under the espresso poor, comes with a range of jug sizes. By far the best value for money of all Barista quality machines, recommend for home use, perhaps even commercial its that good.

Karen M.asked
In bought BS870 October 19 and it’s been working fine until about a week ago
I have to manually stop it from pouring either 1 cup of 2 cups
Also the gauge needle does not move to advise if the grind is correct
Frustrating as I’m very particular with cleaning procedures On this machine and I always recommend this machine to others but now I’m very annoyed and doubtful about it’s ability to
Perform
Can you please advise what I need to do to correct these issues or I will be asking for a full refund
Thank you

have you tried reprogramming the shot time for your machine? there are several videos on youtube showing how to do it.

I have been enjoying my Barista Espresso BES870XL for about two years with proper maintenance routines. Recently the grinding amount adjustment knob does not work. No matter where you put it, it produces the same amount of ground coffee. I use it to adjust the amount of grinding according to the hardness and roasting of the grain. Can you help me solve this problem? Thank you

how often do you perform a deep clean of the grinder ? this means removing BOTH the upper and lower burrs of the grinder to clean in between where coffee can collect and cake up. this happened to me. let me know if you need more detail .
Thanks @beetole for your reply.
I certainly don't know how to remove the lower conical element from the mill. Occasionally I use a product in the form of tablets called GRINDZ for cleaning the grinder. WELCOME any suggestion on the matter. Thank you.
there is a video by R Brown on youtube to help you remove the upper and lower burrs. title of his video is: Breville Barista Express: Advanced Grinder Cleaning. The video is quite clear and will show you the amount of gunk that gets trapped in the nooks and crannies. grindz is fine for cleaning the teeth of the burrs, but fine coffee grounds and oils have space to get trapped and accumulate.

Been enjoying this machine for 1 month, but now before pressure builds it cuts off. Needle gets to about half-pressure, or less, and then game-over. Very dissapointing after a few weeks of good shots!
