Barista Express BES870

In bought BS870 October 19 and it’s been working fine until about a week ago

I have to manually stop it from pouring either 1 cup of 2 cups

Also the gauge needle does not move to advise if the grind is correct

Frustrating as I’m very particular with cleaning procedures On this machine and I always recommend this machine to others but now I’m very annoyed and doubtful about it’s ability to
Perform

Can you please advise what I need to do to correct these issues or I will be asking for a full refund

Thank you

Barista Express BES870

I have been enjoying my Barista Espresso BES870XL for about two years with proper maintenance routines. Recently the grinding amount adjustment knob does not work. No matter where you put it, it produces the same amount of ground coffee. I use it to adjust the amount of grinding according to the hardness and roasting of the grain. Can you help me solve this problem? Thank you

Been enjoying this machine for 1 month, but now before pressure builds it cuts off. Needle gets to about half-pressure, or less, and then game-over. Very dissapointing after a few weeks of good shots!

Hi Robin, I had this issue and I called Breville and it's had to go in for repairs. My machine is only 2 months old. According to the repairer, it's a circuit board problem with either the water and/or grind continuing and not stopping. Mine was the water extraction.

Barista Express BES870BSS (Brushed Stainless Steel)

Hi,

I have recently purchased a Breville BES870. It apparently works normally, but after finishing an espresso extraction, it makes a gurgling noise that lasts about 20 to 30 seconds. Is this noise normal?

Thanks in advance!

My pressure gauge needle moves midway into the grey zone then after just a few seconds there is a "pop" sound like a valve has opened the needle drops back to zero while the water continues to flow resulting in a poor result, I'm thinking it may be a faulty pressure relief valve, has anyone else had this problem? The machine is a Breville Express BES870

Can’t adjust cup level unfortunately, but with a regular mug or espresso cup, won’t splash luckily as doesn’t just pour out but evenly and steadily comes out of spouts

I bought this machine for Christmas for the family. I have owned and operated 4 breville coffee machines over the post 15 years and they have always been brillant. This one the pressure gauge needle does not move. Not at all. Is it faulty?

Sounds like it. Get some beans and test with different coarseness levels and tamping pressure. I have had ground coffee mostly so far but it is a fairly fine grind and the pressure grind ends up at the higher end of the central grey area, probably 1 o'clock on the dial.

I have already tested it thoroughly. Ex barista/bar manager here. The pressure gauge does not move at all not a mm.

Im trying to get my expression shot in the espresso range for a double shot cup, and Ive tried many combos of grind/grind amount and the pressure gauge is barley moving, ive tried the most common one course 4/5 grind amount 11 o clock 1 o clock still nothing any tips, Im using Victoria coffee

Usually the finer the grind of coffee, the better the result, as the water will do a better job of penetrating the coffee granules to get a nice crema.
Try it on the finest grind. Use the double shot. Fill with ground coffee, tap on bench to let it settle, then grind more, making a small mound of coffee. Tamp it & then put it in the machine. It should feel firm but not impossible to screw in.
If still no luck, try watching some "how to do" videos online. Good luck.

Mine didn't have them either. The only label is on the bottom of the machine and one on the box. I found a number on the invoice from Bing Lee which seemed to work as a batch id (or one of the other ones) when I was registering for my warranty on the Breville site.

Barista Express BES870

Hi all. After about two years my BES870 has stopped delivering measured shots. It just keeps running until I press the shot size button again to stop the flow manually. Have tried resetting by pressing the Program button until I hear 3 beeps - no change. Then tried reprogramming both one shot and two shot programs - again no change. Unplugged the machine and left for 1/2 hour - no change. Only other clue is that this only started after the machine had been in storage for about 6 weeks after a house move. Any ideas?
