Barista Express BES870

I just cleaned (twice as disc didn't completely dissolve first time) and descaled my machine but the cleaning light is still solid on. Only caught two beeps at end of cleaning cycle. What does this mean? Machine is less than 3 months old, used twice daily and has been cleaned/descaled regularly. I've just replaced water filter too. Thanks in advance (PS love this machine and hope nothing's wrong). Vanessa

The cleaning cycle should be an automatic 5-minute process purging throughout into the drip tray. Regardless of whether the tablet dissolved, if there was not an automatic 5-minute purge process but rather manual shot button presses to dissolve the tablet, the process was not completed correctly. The process is activated only by (machine off) pressing and holding the 2 CUP, 1 CUP, then POWER and holding all 3 until the Clean Me light begins to flash, then release. Should this not resolve the matter, please give us the opportunity to correct the situation by contacting our dedicated customer care team at 1300 139 798 (M-F, 8am-5pm) or at [email protected]

Thanks for the reply. I did follow those instructions first time and did another cleaning cycle this morning before calling support. Unfortunately trouble shooting steps didn't fix it either but I have a case logged now and they're sending me a descale sachet to see if that fixes the problem. Machine is still working fine and they said ok to keep using it with the light on. I'm confident it will get resolved. In the meantime I'll continue to enjoy my excellent machine

I had the same problem. Was following the descaling operation you mentioned. In the instruction manual there is a further descaling operation which needs to be completed. The descale light should go out when that operation is finished.

We have had our machine for nearly 6 months.
It all runs fine and have had little trouble thus far.
We have only just noticed that it now has a small drip leak on the bottom near the front left.
It is out of the longer narrow gap. Not sure from were?
It seems to have gotten worse.
Any ideas anyone

Barista Express BES870

Hello, I have been using my BES870 for almost 3 months now. Everything's working perfectly - I have got perfect extraction, perfect shot - that's until 4 days ago when i tried pulling a second cup of latte for my hubby, the double shot espresso just won't stop automatically. I had to press the double shot button again to stop the extraction. I then experimented with the single shot espresso button and it behaved the same as the double shot button. :((

A little bit of background on how I use my machine:
- Usage frequency: About 1-2 times daily for the period of 3 months
- Water: Bottled mineral water (yes, stupid of me to use that now thinking back) with the in-built water filter in the water tank
- Beans: Fresh roasted beans from local roastery
- Cleaning & care: I always pull a single shot without porta filter before the actual espresso shot extraction. After making my coffee, I always run a single shot with the porta filter AND without the porta filter to clean out the porta filter basket and brew head.

I would like to know if there is any solution to my problem? Thanks!

Hello Faye, Even though the shot you pulled was flowing longer than expected, how did the shot look? Did it overflow the cup? Was it only a small amount and looked overly dark? Please get in contact with us, we'd be grateful for the chance to assist you.

Hi there! Thanks for the reply. For your info, the shot I pulled was non-stop until it overflowed the cup and I had to press the 1-shot/2-shot espresso button to stop the flow. I had since contacted my local (Korea) Breville customer service to send the machine in for servicing. The repair team got back to me and said the flow meter (I didn't know if I got this right) was malfunctioning. They proceeded to repair the machine and had it delivered back to me pretty quickly. I have been using it for almost 2 weeks now with no problem, and hopefully it will continue to be so for the next few years?

My BES870 programming does not appear to work. I have to press the one cup or two cup button when the level reaches the desired amount. If I don't, it will just go on and fill the cup. I have tried programming exactly as per the manual. The beeps and flashing program button are correct but the changes simply aren't being recorded. Any ideas? John.

Hi Rhonda, use the double wall filter basket, tamp coffee firmly, you should get 11ml of perfect espresso

My machine is cleaned regulary, and also has had new seal. I have played with the courseness of the coffee and around 3 out of 5 pours it will start off fine then suddenly half way thru the pour it will chuck a hissy fit and spit coffee all over the place and what does end up in the cup is gritty. Now I cant get one good pour...and I WANT MY COFFEE

I have done a full clean on the machine. Descaled, cleaned and changed the filter. The clean light is still illuminated. What do I need to do.

Here's what worked for me.

After the cleaning cycle (preferably after rinsing as well) do the following:

1. Turn off the machine, remove the portafilter.
2. Hold the 2Cup button and Power at the same time. The unit will turn on and the 1 Cup light will blink.
3. Press the 1 Cup button.
4. Turn off the machine and use as normal.

This should reset the unit.

There is always liquid left in between the filter basket and the filter basket holder. When I take the basket out there are no obstructions and the 2 slots are clearly there to allow the liquid to drain yet some always stays behind when I make coffee or when I rinse the basket holder with water. Then when I put it into its spot and tighten it in place or even if I put the basket holder into the grinder slot it leaks the remainder of the fluid out. Any ideas?

Have had my machine a couple of months. After watching numerous YouTube how-to videos and playing around with grind size/amount am pretty happy with the results. However when I use the one-cup basket for a single coffee (and using exactly the same tamp pressure as with the two), the flow doesn’t start for about 10 seconds, the pressure gauge indicates very low and then swings around to the highest point. Not sure why the inconsistency?
