Getting a LOUD intermittent buzzing when operating Breville The Oracle BES980XL. During buzzing, the hot water dispenser pours out when doing an espresso. It will sometimes buzz loudly even with the power off. Is this a control board problem, or a solenoid/valve problem?

Yes this is a solenoid/valve problem. Your 3 way valve has failed and needs replacing ($80). Also when this happens it is normally time to replace the water pump too (about $40) as its not far behind failing.

Thanks a bunch...... there are 3 seperate water solenoid valves inside, any idea which one is the culprit?

We have the One Touch 990. The Allen screw for the shower screen has broken in two, half of it stuck in the upper assembly (group head?). I see replacement screws available but removing the broken one looks difficult. The break is flush with the screw hole so there’s nothing that one can grab with pliers. The screw itself is only 3 or 4 mm in diameter so trying to reverse it out with a screw extractor will probably damage the threads of the hole, making it impossible to use a replacement screw (maybe it could be retapped, maybe not). And I don’t see the group head available as a replacement part. Any ideas?

We've had the machine for approx 18 months and just recently it has started having problems getting to the operating temperature (I have it set at 94c). It gets to 88, the 89 and sometimes 90, fluctuates between the those and eventually after about 10 mins settles on 94 but the "heating" messages keeps flashing. Despite all that, once the 94 is reached all things work as their supposed to.
I have also never rescaled the machine. Never had any messages to do so. It's been cleaned as per prompts and filters replaced but no de scale. Could a descale help?
Cheers John

Hi John, i have set the temp @93 and never had such problems. There is nothing wrong to try descale as per instructions however not sure that will help. Have you tried to reduce the temp and saw any difference in time to initialise. Also worth calling breville support if there are any hardware issues.

Thanks Vish, I must admit it only started to have those issues since I moved to 94. I’ll take it back to 93 and let you know. Cheers

Hi Vish, it's been a couple of hours since I turned the machine off, so fired it up and changed the temp back to 93. It worked a treat so thanks for your help.
I'd been watching a coffee show and they said that 94c was the optimum temperature to extract the best from coffee hence my change. I really can't taste any difference in that one degree so looks like I'm all good again.

Cheers John

Grinder motor is spinning but no coffee is getting pushed into portafilter. I've dissembled the burr grinder, cleaned and reassembled. There are no blockages I can find. The tamping fan is installed correctly. looks like its grinding but it's not pulling more beans into the burr grinder and it's not pushing it into the portafilter. Any suggestions?

The clean me is not for descaling, it is for running the clean cycle using the grey rubber stopper and tablet in the portafilter.

Look up into the grinder, there is a hard, black rubber gasket. Push it to the right(I think) so that it is no longer blocking the the two slots that you insert the portafilter into.

We have a Breville Oracle Touch and the entire group head fell out! I have contacted customer service through the website since it was a Saturday and they don't answer phones on the weekends. Someone responded Monday afternoon requesting a picture (I attached 2 pictures to original inquiry). I responded and sent the requested photo on Monday and no one has responded since. Anyone out there with the same issue or a fix for it? I just tried to call and am now on a "call back" service. Who knows if they actually call me back?!

What issues should I be looking for - I have an opportunity to purchase a second hand Oracle for $650. Current owner says it needs a new filter and is a regrettable sale. Just wondering what other issues this machine tends to commonly have?
