Great Vacuum Cleaner
I have been using a Dyson for about 10 years now & am very happy with it. Mine has been updated by now but I am still happy. Have had to replace the turbo head once. I have used it on carpet, vinyl & tiles with no problems. We'll done Dyson. Mine is about 10 years old now & still going strong.

it should be called "died son"
only can give one start for this vaccum due to a very good suction. That is, nothing more. I brought this "died son" in 2013, the brush head not spinning now. I called service center, they told me it cost 129 to get a new head and they don't fix the head. I paid 800 dollars for this machine and it only last for a short time. waste of money.

Pity about the entry into the cyclone clogging up all the time.
This vacuum cleaner would be 5 stars if only the suction tube didn't change shape an narrow down as it gets to the vacuum cleaner. The section that you remove is nearly worn out on mine due to the number of times I've had to remove it to get something that's stuck (or just a build up of stuff) out because it has stopped or greatly reduced the suction at the head. Looks like the new ones are the same. Just wish my old DC05 hadn't died, but given the years of use and the cat hair it had picked up I would have bought another one of those in a heartbeat if they were still available.

Our Dyson engineers have listened carefully and taken on board the feedback regarding the lower inlet hose blocking easily and have changed the design on our latest release vacuum. The Dyson Cinetic Big Ball so that the hose connects directly into the bin canister, rather than running underneath and up behind. Dyson greatly appreciate all feedback whether negative or positive and are thankful that our customer take the time to reach out with their experiences, this is how we move forward and improve. Waste of money 3 years and it's toast
So for the price this vacuum retails for you would expect it to out last any other cleaner on the market and you would also expect the warranty to be longer than 2 years.
For the price I paid I could have bought 6 average vacuum cleaners over the last 3 years.
Engine has seized after only 3 years. Minimal use on average 2 hours per week if that. Customer service is not very helpful and keeps referring to the standard 2 year warranty vacuum came with. Will not be buying anything branded Dyson ever again. Dyson is just overpriced and very bad quality/workmanship. You should be ashamed of yourself ripping people off like you do. Not surprisingly this model is discontinued because it has loads of complaints.

Should of lasted longer than 3 years
It was a nice vacuum until it was time to empty, nice you don't have to buy bags but it is very messy and dirty job, a lot of banging, scrubbing with toothbrush. Today there was a burning smell from the exhaust, removed the canister but the smell is still there. After waiting a long hold for customer service, the lady wanted me to drive a hour roundtrip plus bridge tolls to drop off then come back to pick up, but when I told her I couldn't make the drive and asked why they don't have a repair center in San Francisco, the call mysteriously disco...Read more

Problem with wand handle
Since purchasing this vacuum cleaner about 3 or 4 years ago I have had to replace the wand handle on 5 occasions. They have all failed at the same point. When I contacted Dyson they asked for the type of carpet I had and when I supplied this information, other than a replacement handle, got no further feedback. I have just replaced the trigger head, at a cost of Au$129.00, as it also failed about 6 months ago. I notice the price for this item was about US$69.00. While all the handles were under warranty and replaced free of charge, it has been frustrating, to say the least, that they keep failing and I was wondering if this is a problem others have experience and why this model is discontinued.

Terrible and overpriced lasted 3 years
This is the second Dyson i have had in 4 years. First one the engine blew after 7 weeks and this one has last 3 and a bit years. Engine blew up again.
Seriously Dyson a $950 vacuum only lasting 3 years? I use my vacuum 4 times a week. This is just not accepatbel at all.
Do not call this the Ferrari of vacuums when it is only a Hyundai. Very average.
I now have a house full of dog hair and no vacuum.
I can buy a vacuum from Bunnings for $100 with a 2 year warranty. You should be offering a 10 yr warranty considering you charge 10 x times more.
No wonder this was discontinued.

They said my vacuum blew up because I misused it and there was white powder in the vacuum? No idea what that was as I don’t have white powder in my house. Dyson refused to send me the pictures of my vacuum. They want $300 to fix it. That being said. I will not be going ahead with the repair I am taking matter to court. Dyson are rude and obnoxious. Ripped Off!!
Paid $900 for this machine less than 3 years ago and have now found out the motor has gone. As we travel for 6 months of the year and it only gets used once a week I would expect it to last a bit longer than 18 months.
Was so stunned when they rang to say it would cost $158 to repair I couldn't decide what to do and they told me to ring back. Have been trying to ring all afternoon and it is continuously engaged so they obviously have a lot of problems with their machines. I've only ever had ducted systems prior to this purchase and thought ...Read more

$900 and lasted 3 years only!
Pro: good suction, found it quite easy to use, was happy with the performance, and easy to clean, great on tiles.
Con:
The dust container is a bit fragile, especially the locking mechanism.
After paying $900 for the animal you'd expect a dyson product to last longer than 3 years. Motor blew during a routine vacuum.
Vacuum air would produce bad smell even after emptying and cleaning the filter.
Only 2 year warranty.

Stopped Working And Loud Noise From The Ball
Extremely disappointed with this as I paid a huge price for it. I thought Dyson was a reliable trusted brand and didn't expect my vacuum to become faulty so soon. I used this for general vacuuming around the house and the suction was great at first but then slowed down and now I think the motor has blown leaving me without a vacuum.

cant fault it!!
Lets just start by saying you get what you pay for! I LOVE my dyson dc39 animal. I can hear my self think and talk over it! It gets all the pet hair and it moves around weightlessly and effortlessly. The filter and barrell and easy to clean and empty too and it has a HUGE range off attachments!!! Even one for brushing your pets!! I had a vax power pet 7 before this and it was the biggest hunk of junk ever! I will only ever have dyson from now on! can not praise it enough!! We have 2 indoor cats and a labrador who sheds a lot inside as well.

Threw it in the bin today!
Today I did the best thing ever...I threw this ridiculously overpriced vacuum cleaner in the bin! The DC39 lasted less than 3 years before the motor died, and it hasn't been sucking properly for at least twelve months. Paid the price thinking I would have it for a long time, will never recommend a Dyson to anyone. Do not buy this machine in the upgraded version.
Dyson representative - don't bother to reply to my review stating that I need to contact Dyson. This machine should have lasted years and years for the price paid. Unless you are going to offer me a refund I don't want to hear from you.

No longer impressed motor went at 3 yrs
Very disappointed the motor went at 3 yrs. For a fee Dyson will have it picked up & taken to the service center .Took it myself, the woman couldnt get me out of the shop quick enough. On quoting on repair later by phone, she told me the problem was the filter was blocked. The reminder to wash it came through a week after the motor blew. I brush it clean after every use - except thIs time when I left the machine as it was when it blew- so it had some dust build up on the filter, but I do not believe it caused the motor to blow as apart from t...Read more
his one occasion after the motor blew - I brushed that filter every time I emptied it. The service center replaced the filter for free, cost for repair 145.00 including return which is a fair price however Three years is not good enough for such a costly machine. As I see all the complaints on here for this model breaking down after 2-3 yrs, I can no longer recommend it. The best suction, ease of movement to pull, it follows beautifully. Worst purchase ever!
I hate this vacuum so much! After years of a cheap Husqvarna and two lots of major house renovations, we decided to shout ourselves a flash new Dyson. What a mistake! I've experienced all the same complaints as the previous reviews. It won't even suck up threads and lint off the floor! The rotating head is totally hopeless and definitely doesn't rotate through a whole session of vacuuming. The only reason I haven't chucked this machine in the bin is because of the horrendous price we paid. Definitely won't purchase this brand again.

Only good for a short period of time.
It was a wonderful machine for 2 years. Then it died on me a couple of weeks ago. Just after the warranty expired. I rang Dyson customer service and instructed to bring it to a service department in Brisbane. Just picked it up today, tested, just like new one again. The good thing is No Charge for the repairs at all.. That should give back some confidence to the buyers.

Noisy
As usual my ears are ringing after vacuuming the house. This machine must breach domestic appliance noise legislation. The lead is too short. The base keeps facing over. The carpet attachment only vacuums when you push forward not when you pull back - how bad is that? - & the noise, dear God the noise.

Performance second-to-none, design and quality overrated
Well as I said in my title, the performance of this DC39 is second to none, and nothing I have used has come close in terms of sucking power. However, some of the design features and build quality is a little overrated. Although the model is discontinued, I would never buy a Dyson unless it was heavily discounted. They are certainly not worth the massive premium over other less 'sexy' brands.

Fantastic suction
I treated myself to enjoy the freedom of a quick and easy to use cordless vacuum but was not expecting the incredible cleaning power of this machine. I have cleaned rugs and carpets that I had only just cleaned with my Nilfisk King and I still keep getting masses of dirt and fibre out of the carpet each time I use it. I bought it on sale and now realize it is discontinued, I hope this is not a bad sign as I love it and want it to last forever. Emptying is a bit difficult and my hands get covered in dust but a small price to pay for the great job it does. Fingers crossed for a long life of cleaning.

Great Service
I have the multi floor, I purchased it 2 years ago for around $500. Had no issues with it, although i wish i had of purchased the turbine head. 2 months ago the motor blew. Thankfully i found my receipt with a month left on the warranty. I called Dyson, yes i waited for a while but found ringing later in the arvo was faster. Organised the service. I took it in today and its already been fixed and is getting posted to me tomorrow. I cannot fault that service at all. The only issue is why would a 2 year old vacuum blow up, but i then thought about it, the dust isnt getting trapped into a bag, its a big cannister which allows t to travel to the motor. Overall i love Dysons and cannot wait to upgrade.

Disappointed with this expensive supposedly reputable vacuum
I lashed out and bought a Dyson DC39 just over three years ago, expecting to get a robust and reliable vacuum which would last for many years. It is used basically once a week. I've kept the filter clean and recently bought a new filter to see if that would help. At first it seemed the goods, but after several months it began sounding laboured. No matter how many times I clean it all out and clean and change the filter, it continues to sound as if the motor is over working, while the suction is less than desirable.
We have timber floors and...Read more
it really does not get a flogging, as I sweep with a broom most days, to keep the larger rubbish picked up. Now I find I have to empty the dust container and beat out the filter twice per vacuuming to even pick up at all. The slightest amount of dust in the (new) filter, still seems to be too much for it.balsonthe automatic head does not seem to be particularly effective for either timber floors nor rugs. It seems a lot of money and effort to have spent for a not very good result. Now having read the other reviews it appears there are a lot of problems with this model not performing!3 comments

customer service at all! Was told I could send my three year old $700 machine in for service with Dyson. That would cost me $85 for the pleasure of them looking at it, plus parts and labour. Sounds like I am being fobbed off and being asked to pay further good money after bad on this machine. I have already attempted to improve the performance by purchasing new filter and two new vacuum heads. The machine barely picks up anything as large as a grain of wheat. Isn't there some department you can speak to about reasonable expectation for life of fairly expensive equipment? I figure when I pay $700 for a vacuum I should be able to expect more than three years from it. Can anyone tell me where I go for this angle please?Similar opinion? Spare Triggerhead turbine heads are certainly available and can be purchased via this link: https://shop.dyson.com.au/spare-parts/triggerhead-923181-03
That being said, we do encourage running through the troubleshooting if yours isn't working as you'd expect. You can find the troubleshooting for this here: https://www.dyson.com.au/SupportHome/Vacuums/Cylinders/DC39/22411-01/troubleshooting/check-the-floor-tool

Does anyone know which head attachment for the Dc39 you use for high pile carpet?
3 answers
Dyson Team ..Dyson
While we would encourage contacting your flooring manufacturer for their advice, the Musclehead or Turbine head provided with your DC39 machine is designed to provide powerful carpet cleaning.
If you find it isn't working as you'd expect, or you have any queries, our Dyson Experts are available via [email protected] and only happy to help.
The head that comes with the Dyson dc39, absolutley is not for high pile carpet. The brush almost stops, and you cannot push the vacuum over the carpet freely without struggle. This head is more for low pile, to burbur, to hard floors. There is no adjustment for higher thicker pile carpeting.
Dyson Team ..Dyson
So we can further assist, we would encourage emailing our Dyson Experts via [email protected] and we will be happy to help.
We also encourage contacting your flooring manufacturer to confirm their advice on what style floor tool would be best for your specific carpets.

The 2 rotors on the small attachment for animal hair on dc39 aren't spinning. Can you tell me how to rectify this?

Dyson Team ..Dyson
As the turbine head is driven by suction power, this can often occur if there is a lack of airflow through the machine.
We would kindly ask you to review the troubleshooting below which should help:
