That is what happened to mine and it meant a dud battery in my case but if you have twenty minutes to wait on the phone for a customer service person they will take you through a number of steps to determine the problem.

Hi Lucy,

Thanks for your question.

We would like to know what the machine's lights are showing when it is not plugged into the charger, and whether the machine has any power at all. If there are lights showing on the machine, it's good to take note of whether they are flashing or solid, and what colour they are. For assistance, we would recommend to get in touch with our customer care team as the quickest resolution. Our 1800 239 766 helpline is open Monday to Friday 8am - 6pm and over the weekend from 8:30am - 4pm.

We look forward to hearing from you soon.

I just purchased a V6 and after charging it for 3.5 hours I tried using the brush vacuum attachment and it overheated. Any reason for this?

Hi Maria,

Thanks for your question.

This is a tricky one, I think we need some more information to provide accurate help for the problem you have had. We are not sure if you meant that the attachment over heated, or whether the machine's motor over heated. If it was the machine's motor, causing it to cut out and blink amber, we would first want to know if the machine was set in MAX mode. Generally, straight out of the box, all machines will be set in MAX mode which will need to be turned off. Max mode is an extra setting which triples the power of the machine and was designed for use on stubborn dirt. Using this mode for a full clean may result in the machine becoming quite hot and cutting out due to it's thermal switch.

If you need further assistance, you best point of call is our customer care helpline. Please call us on 1800 239 766 between the hours of Monday - Friday 8am - 6pm and Saturday - Sunday 8:30am - 4pm AEDST.

Hi Stephanie,

Thanks for your question.

We are sorry to hear that you are having an issue with the motorhead of your cordless machine. We recommend to follow these checkpoints:

1. Remove the brushbar from the motorhead. The best way to remove it is to use a 10 or 20 cent coin to remove the brushbar (twisting the end cap at the side). Once you have removed the brushbar completely from the head, please check each end of the brushbar, the end cap and the axle where the brushbar connects for any blockage or damage.

2. Separate the clear plastic bin from the main body of the machine. To do this, you will need to open the bottom of the bin by pressing the red tab. Once the bottom of the bin is open, press the red tab again to remove the clear bin off the main body. Once the clear bin is separated, clean the metal contacts behind the clear bin and on the main body with a dry cloth. Assemble the machine and test if the motorhead will spin.

3. If the motorhead still does not spin after following steps 1 and 2, please remove the long stick/wand and test if the motorhead will work when connected straight on the nozzle of the clear bin.

If the motorhead still does not work after following above steps, please don't hesitate to call us on 1800 239 766. Our helpline is open Monday - Friday 8am - 6pm and Saturday - Sunday 8:30am - 4pm.

Hi Heidi,

Thanks for your question.

The most suitable model for your requirements would be the V6 Absolute. This model comes with two floor tools, one for carpet (Direct-drive cleaner head) as well as one for hard flooring only (Soft roller cleaner head). Both heads with require monthly maintenance (complete when washing the pre filter) to remove any hair or debris that may collect around the rotating brush bar. This model also comes with a Mini motorised tool which is excellent for cleaning upholstery inside the home and car. Unlike the other V6 models units, the V6 Absolute has a post filter component for extra filtration of microscopic dust expelling air cleaning than the air you breathe. To view or shop the V6 Absolute, please see the link below:

What can be done about dust and fine particles blowing out of this Dyson? The dust is very visible and makes me not want to use it as I feel the dust is just being put back into the air and settling on all my furniture. I have had a few blasts of the dust in my face and I can tell you it is not pleasant. This Dyson V6 was bought as a gift for me by my son only a couple of months ago and as he paid so much for it I can hardly tell him what a disappointment it is. I clean and maintain this appliance every time I use it so that is not a problem. I hope someone can resolve this problem for me.

June - I would suggest that you contact Dysons Customer Care Team either by phone 1800 239 766 Mon to Fri 8 to 6 pm and Sat & Sun 8:30 to 4 pm.

Or email them at: [email protected]

I found them very helpful when I had problems with my first Dyson some years ago.

As I don't have the problem with dust puffing out, sorry I cannot give you any specific information as to how to solve the problem. Good luck.

When using it for the first time today, it was powerful, however the air blew hard against my face, making it a discomfort. Does anyone experience this and how do you work around it? Do you just angle it away from your face?

When the unit is set to MAX, the air that blows out the back will be fairly strong. Sadly, there is no way to work around the airflow that it pushes out, maybe holding it at a lower angle will make it more comfortable as you use it.

When the salesmen did a demo, he accidentally switched it on at the shops. I copped a blow of dust into my eyes and could smell and breathe it. I gave the machine the benefit if the doubt cos, I had a dc39 before and was very happy with it. However this v6 motor head when I took it home, I experience a similar thing. I think this is a safety issue. Fine particles can get into your eyes and you can breathe it in. You should be able to adjust to high or low settings without puffs of fine dust blowing or air into your face. I agree lowering the angle helps, but for a brand like Dyson and the amount you pay for it, you should not need to. I do think this needs to be addressed.

My machine is brand new. The power is starting and stopping. What do I do?

if you are holding the red trigger button in whilst the vacuum stops there is something wrong. The red button must be fully compressed to engage the motor if you release pressure then the motor will turn off. Check to make sure the battery is firmly in place. If it continues when you have fully charged the vacuum, I would advise calling customer service. Alternatively if you have purchased it from a store and not on line take it back and I am sure they will replace it with another and return yours to Dyson.

Hi Kylie,

Thank you for your question.

We are sorry to hear that you are having an issue with your machine. If your machine is stopping and starting it is possible that the bin flap is jammed.

You will need to take the bin completely off following these instructions http://www.dyson.com.au/support/dc58-dc59/dc59-animal/maintaining-your-dyson-machine/removing-blockages-from-the-inlet-pipe-and-cone-shroud when checking the inlet pipe poke your fingers through and make sure the little black flap is moving freely.

If you are still having an issue please don't hesitate to call us on 1800 239 766. Our helpline is open Mon-Fri 8am-6pm and on the weekends 8.30am-4pm.

How is the Dyson V6 Motorhead performance on hard floor?
I have read from the website says
"Invented for carpet cleaning.
75% more brush bar power than V6 Animal.
Deeper carpet cleaning.
Extra tool for homes with pets."

so the product is not for hard floor?

They provide two big heads, I've used both on hard floors, fantastic, the head for hard floors must be used on timber floors to prevent scratches. However if you have tiles you can use the carpet or hard floor head. With alot of pet hair in the heads you might need to clean them more often.

Julie F

I have the animal V6 and find it great on both floors. It works harder on carpet and battery life is reduced quicker on the carpet.

Dyson
Dyson Team ..Dyson

Hi CC,

Thank you for your question.

The V6 Motorhead is designed to give great cleaning on your carpets, however it will also work on hard floors. If you primarily have hard floors, the V6 Fluffy may be more suited to your environment. If you have a mix of both, it may be worth considering the V6 Absolute which comes with both the Soft Roller Cleaner head and the Direct Drive cleaner head to give great performance on both carpets and hard floors.

Hope this helps!

Shan
