Hi my dyson v6 when I plug it in to charge the blue light appears for about a min then it stops charging what is wrong with it?
2 answers
Hi Anthony,
It is a battery problem. Mine died just out of the two year warranty period. I took it back to the Good Guys where I purchased it from. They were fantastic in getting the problem fixed. Dyson were extremely hard to deal with and will not recognise they have a battery fault.
Good Luck,
Sue

Hi Anthony,
Thank you for your query.
The blue light turning off after a minute of charge indicates the machine is signalling it is fully charged.
If you pull the machine off the charger, and the machine runs, please be assured this is normal operation. If not, please email [email protected] and we will be more than happy to help.

Hi Jen,
Thanks for your question.
All our cordless machines are packaged up set to maximum power. The run time on max mode is 6 minutes.
Please see the following video which shows how to switch between max and normal power modes at around one minute in: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=32KSMSRSTC0
The machine is designed to run for 6 minutes on Max power, up to 17 minutes on normal power and a motorized head, and up to 20 minutes on normal power without a motorized head.
If this does not resolve the issue please reach out at [email protected] and we will be happy to help you further.

I have the V6 Original, it’s only a few weeks old and I find it hard to empty. When I slide the red button the bottom doesn’t just pop open like I’ve seen others do. Am I doing something wrong or is mine faulty?
1 answer
Dyson Team ..Dyson
Hi Jaqui,
Thanks for your question.
Often the reason for this is that the bin was not aligned correctly when last attached to the machine. Please remove the bin completely by starting with an empty bin and pressing the red lever down twice. Reattach your bin with the bin base open as demonstrated here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oGiMWqs6_Yo
If this does not resolve the issue please reach out at [email protected] and we will be happy to help you further.

Hello my Dyson V6 is not charging.
It's only a few months old.
When plugged in on charge the blue light goes off after around 1min. I then have to take the lead out and re insert it for the blue light to come on again.?
Our v6 currently has no power. Any ideas?

Mine doesn't do that at all it's probably a fault - send it to Dyson they pay for the postage you print out a label they email you and then repair it for you it's not to expensive I'm sure if it's a faulty item they will replace it for free maybe it's the cord?
Dyson Team ..Dyson
Hi Anna,
Thanks for your question.
The blue light turning off so quickly may mean that the battery is currently full, or that the charger is intermittent.
Further checks are required to diagnose and resolve this for you. With the machine off the charger, hold in the trigger and watch for any lights that the machine displays.
Please email us your contact details, the serial number and a description of the lights you see when on and off the charger at [email protected] and we will be happy to help you with your machine.

Hi Ana, I had the same issue - The blue light turning off so quickly may mean that the battery is currently full - you might want to jump on YouTube and watch the Dyson cleaning video - once I removed the canister and cleaned the small silver chip behind canister, my Dyson started working. I used a cotton bud to clean it and also cleaned my filter. hope this helps. Regards

I have a V6.It cuts out only on maximum power.I have checked for blockages and filter is clean.Any ideas please

Mine keeps stop and starting whenever theres a blockage. I sometimes its in the pole part or the floor head. Usually its long strands of hair with some balls of dirt that make it feel blocked. If urs is faulty, just take it back if its under warranty.

Hi Ann,
Thanks for your question.
If your machine cuts out with an on-off-on pulsating sound, it means that the motor is not getting the correct airflow. This could mean that the filter is still dirty or that there is a partial blockage of the airflow in the machine that has not yet been located. Please check your machine over as shown in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fdnu4yk-5vI
If this doesn't resolve the issue please get in touch at [email protected] and we will be happy to help you further.

machine pulses on and off and then may stop. have cleaned everything.i have washed the filter but problem starts few days later. it goes well if filter taken out[not used to clean]. Any ideas?

Hi Valerie,
I am sorry to hear about this.
If your machine is making a pulsing sound, this indicates a blockage or restriction in airflow through the machine. Please check your machine for blockages as shown here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BCUY4crvKK8
This should get your machine back up and running as normal, however, if we can assist further, please email [email protected] with your details and we will be in touch.

The power varies a lot with the machine. It is fully charged but hardly picks up any larger items - frit etc. Only good for dust or hairs. Is this normal?

I am looking at getting a Dyson stick vacuum, not sure which model yet. However I live in a rental house and can't drill into the wall to set up the wall mount. Are there other ways of using this wall mount, or can I charge the vacuum without using the wall mount?
2 answers
I'm also in rental house, so I was worried about this. I've got V6 animal and I don't have use the wall mount, charger is separate to the wall mount. Downside is that you can't stand it like how they are displayed in the shops.
Dyson Team ..Dyson
Hi Kelly,
Thank you for your query.
The dock needs to be mounted to be effectively used, however, you can charge the machine by plugging the cord directly into the machine without the dock (in a similar fashion to plugging in a mobile phone to charge).

how long does it take to charge the battery once it has run right down?
1 answer
Dyson Team ..Dyson
Hi Trinny,
Thanks for your question.
It takes 3.5 hours to fully charge the battery pack from flat. While the machine is charging, it will display a solid blue light, when the machine is fully charged, the light will go out.
If we can be of any further assistance, please email us at [email protected] and we will be happy to help.

My Dyson V6 does not pick up hair, threads or feathers (from bedding) I have to constantly cut out hair from the brush and I have just hoovered my bedroom and it looks exactly the same. The only thing it seems to pick up is dust. I have emptied the bin and tried on both normal and max, it just seems pretty pointless and I've only had it for about 6 months. Any advice?

Does having an attachment on my dyson effect the charging?
1 answer

Hi Mandy,
Thank you for your question.
As the charger is charging the battery only, it makes no difference whether any attachments are on or off the machine.

My Dyson v6 doesn't do well on carpet. The motorized attachment will stop spinning until I release the trigger and turn it back on. Is this expected behavior? It has always done it. I tried using my brothers Motorhead attachment in it and I had the same result.
Are the v6 and v6 motorhead units the same except for the attachment? I know he doesn't have an issue when vacuuming on carpet. Unfortunately I'm limited to hardwood with my v6.

Hi there,
Thanks for your question.
It isn't expected behavior for a V6's motorhead to turn off when in use on carpet. It is designed to work on both hard floor and carpet surfaces.
It sounds like there may be something interrupting the electrical signal to the motorhead instead. This may even be a bit of dust that has gotten into the wrong spot inside the machine.
Please send us an email at [email protected] and we will be happy to help you resolve it.

I am having some technical difficulties with my Dyson V6. It seems to be cutting out and not retaining any charge. I am charging the hoover in the cylinder as advised and this has worked perfectly fine, up until now! The handheld unit is flashing to indicate if is out of charge then when charging in the unit, the blue light is remaining on to indicate the unit is being charged. However, once removed from charge the unit worked for roughly 3 seconds then cuts out and the blue light flashes to indicate it's out of charge again! This is the first time this has happened - much to my frustration. I have not even had the hoover 1 year yet!
With 2 small children at home I'm sure you can appreciate how important it is for me to have a working hoover.
Could you please advise me what to do?
1 answer
Dyson Team ..Dyson
Hi Toni,
Thanks for your question.
We suggest to remove the charger from the charging dock and plug it directly into the back of the machine. Next run a test charge, checking to make sure the blue charging light stays on solid for 3.5 hours then turns off if the battery was flat initially.
Next use the machine with the max light off and time the machine until it turns off, watching for any flashing lights. If the run time is still shorter than expected please send us an email at [email protected] and we will be happy to help.

Hi, my dyson v6 will not charge. When I put it on charger, the light turned blue. After a couple seconds, it turns off. But when I try to use it, it shuts down. What should I do?
1 answer
Dyson Team ..Dyson
Hi Judy,
Thank you for your query.
The light turning off is normal, indicating your machine is fully charged.
If your machine is shutting down, it could indicate a blockage or restriction in airflow through the machine, we would encourage you to run through the checks outlined here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BCUY4crvKK8

Should my Dyson always be on charge even if I only use it for a few minutes does continuous charging undermine the battery performance?
1 answer
Dyson Team ..Dyson
Hi Tismee,
Your Dyson V6 has smart electronics within the machine, battery and charger to ensure the machine won't overcharge. Because of these electronics, it is perfectly fine to do quick "top up" charges without the need to fully decharge the battery each time prior to charging.
In addition, we recommend you leave the machine on charge when not in use, this will ensure it is always charged and ready for your next cleaning session.

Hi there,

If you machine is on MAX mode, the MAX light at the back of the machine will illuminate blue.

Last year I bought a v6 handstick (I think according to the model selection below it's a V6 Original) but this year they all change to V6 slim and V6 cord-free & so on. Just wonder if the v6 cord-free is similar to the 2016's basic Original v6?
1 answer
Dyson Team ..Dyson
Hi Sebby,
Thanks for your question.
The V6 Slim and V6 Cord-free are the latest models in the V6 range. The V6 Cord-free replaces the V6, and the V6 Slim has a narrower head of 211mm.
There are minor cosmetic differences between the V6 and the new V6 Cord-Free.
