Hi Dolly. I've not had that trouble with my V6. But I did with the older model I had. Make sure your filter is throughly clean and dry before putting back in. Also make sure you haven't got any blockages in the pipes and vacuum head. My problem ended up being a blockage in the pipe and head. Hope this helps you.

Dyson
Dyson Team ..Dyson

Hi Dolly,

Thanks for your question.

Sorry to hear you are experiencing this issue. If your machine is revving or surging then this means there is a blockage in your machine. We would ask you to follow the below checkpoints:

Remove the long wand/ stick from the machine and test the machine. Is the machine still surging? If the machine is still surging then the issue would either be a blockage inside the grey nozzle of the clear plastic bin or the filter needs to be washed. Please also ensure the flap inside the grey nozzle moves freely. If not, give it a gentle persuasive push until it does.

If the machine is not surging when the wand/ stick is off. Please check the wand/ stick for blockages.

If the wand/ stick is clear then the blockage would be inside the motorhead of your machine. Please remove the brushbar from inside the motorhead. The best way to remove it is to use a 10 or 20 cent coin to remove the brushbar (twisting the end cap at the side). Once you have removed the brushbar completely from the head, use a chopstick or wooden spoon handle to either push the blockage through or pull it out.

If we can be of any further assistance, please don't hesitate to call us on 1800 239 766. Our helpline is open Monday to Friday 8am - 6pm and over the weekend from 8:30am - 4pm.

Hi is it OK to leave the v6 flexi on charge all the time when not in use and fully charged, or should it be switched off once charged to preserve the battery.

Rick
Rick

Hi Sandie, Yes it is quite okay to leave your unit on charge as there is an automatic switch off arrangement.
We only turn ours off if we are going away for a few days. In that case we always turn all electrical appliances off.
The battery will not be affected if it is left on charge.
Regards, Rick

Dyson
Dyson Team ..Dyson

Hi Sandie,

Thanks for your question.

Further to the comment above, we can confirm that leaving your machine on the charger will cause no damage to your machine or the battery life and run time. The charger cable has a mechanism which recognizes when the machine is fully charged and will switch off to ensure that no more power is transferred. This is why we have designed a handy docking station which allows the charger cable to be threaded through for easy storage and ensures your machine is always charged ready to go.

If you are going away for days or weeks at a time, it's always a good safety practise to switch off all appliances.

If we can be of any further assistance, please don't hesitate to call us on 1800 239 766. Our helpline is open Monday to Friday 8am - 6pm and over the weekend from 8:30am - 4pm.

Have a dyson V6 cordless. I cleaned the clear bin, plus the screen shroud around the cyclone, tapped the cyclone to get dirt out, however there is dirt under the screening that goes around the cyclone. How do I get that dirt out? Can I remove the screen cup that is around the cyclone to remove the trapped dirt?

1 answer
Dyson
Dyson Team ..Dyson

Hi Maggie,

Thanks for your question.

It is normal for a small amount of dust/ dirt to build up inside the cyclone shroud, and majority of this should be able to be removed by tapping out the cyclone and brushing the outside of the shroud with the combination accessory tool which came included inside the box of your machine.

If the dust/dirt inside the shroud has become a clay-like consistency, it is likely that moisture has entered the cyclone. If this is the case, excessive build up caused by moisture can lead to a blockage in the filtration system and a loss in suction power would become apparent. We hope that is not the case with your machine as there is no way to remove this shroud, and a replacement would be required.

If we can be of any further assistance, please don't hesitate to reply by email or call us on 1800 239 766. Our helpline is open Monday to Friday 8am - 6pm and over the weekend from 8:30am - 4pm.

1 answer
Dyson
Dyson Team ..Dyson

Hi Veronica,

Thanks for your question.

We are sorry to hear that you are having an issue with the motorhead of your cordless machine. We recommend to follow these checkpoints:

1. Remove the brushbar from the motorhead. The best way to remove it is to use a 10 or 20 cent coin to remove the brushbar (twisting the end cap at the side). Once you have removed the brushbar completely from the head, please check each end of the brushbar, the end cap and the axle where the brushbar connects for any blockage or damage.

2. Separate the clear plastic bin from the main body of the machine. To do this, you will need to open the bottom of the bin by pressing the red tab. Once the bottom of the bin is open, press the red tab again to remove the clear bin off the main body. Once the clear bin is separated, clean the metal contacts behind the clear bin and on the main body with a dry cloth. Assemble the machine and test if the motorhead will spin.

3. If the motorhead still does not spin after following steps 1 and 2, please remove the long stick/wand and test if the motorhead will work when connected straight on the nozzle of the clear bin.

If the motorhead still does not work after following above steps, please forward reach out to our helpline on 1800 239 766 for further assistance. Our helpline is open Monday - Friday 8am - 6pm and Saturday - Sunday 8:30am - 4pm AEDST.

Hi Flourish,

Thanks for your question.

If the rotating brush bar component of a DC33 is not suitable of your SmartStrand carpet, we would not recommend a V6 as the main floor tool for these units contains the same carbon fibre bristles on the brush bar that are found on the DC33 Upright. We are sorry for any disappointment this may cause.

Please reach out to our 1800 239 766 helpline if you like to discuss any upright or barrel machines which may be more suitable to your flooring. Our helpline is open Monday to Friday 8am - 6pm and over the weekend from 8:30am - 4pm.

How do I clean the mesh filter in the plastic bin, it collects fine dust and smells of my dog

1 answer
Dyson
Dyson Team ..Dyson

Hi Kaz,

Thanks for your question.

There is no way to wash this component and doing so strictly advised against. When vacuuming pet hair, we recommend to empty the bin canister immediately after to avoid the oils from hair lingering inside the bin and developing a smell. We would also suggest to remove the bin canister complete, take the exposed cyclone outside, and carefully tap the cyclone on a flat surface to dislodge excess dust build up. The combination accessory tool is fantastic for dusting the outside of the mesh and dislodging dust build up as well. To rid the smell, ensure the pre filter is washed regularly (monthly), the bin canister wiped out of hair, and you may also wish to air the cyclone in a safe place outside for half a day after cleaning.

For any further assistance, please reach out to our helpline on 1800 239 766 or contact us via email at [email protected].

I've had your experience with other cordless vacuums, and I paid the high price of a Dyson because the sales person assured me the type of battery used in the Dyson should be significantly better than what you have described. It should be covered under warranty or under a 'reasonable expectations' clause. I recommend contacting the shop from which you purchased it. If they give no satisfaction, contact Dyson directly. The battery can be replaced.

Smee

Hi Sally, if the Dyson vac is stopping and starting it's not your battery that is the problem. if you open your vac like you would to clean the filter at the bottom you will see the two battery connection bars - this is the problem. They flatten down and no longer make full connection so the machine stops and starts. It's as annoying as hell - you could ask a vac serviceman to fix these points but they are very fragile so don't recommend you do it yourself. If your vac is still under warranty then take it back and tell them what's wrong - it is a known fault but they won't admit it.

Dyson
Dyson Team ..Dyson

Hi Sally,

Thanks for your question.

If your machine is revving or surging after a short period of time then this means there is a blockage of airflow through your machine. We would ask you to follow the below checkpoints:

Remove the long wand/stick from the machine and test the machine. Is the machine still surging? If the machine is still surging then the issue would either be a blockage inside the grey nozzle of the clear plastic bin or the filter needs to be washed. Please also ensure the flap inside the grey nozzle moves freely. If not, give it a gentle persuasive push until it does.

If the machine is not surging when the wand/stick is off. Please check the wand/stick for blockages.

If the wand/stick is clear then the blockage would be inside the motorhead of your machine. Please remove the brush bar from inside the motorhead. The best way to remove it is to use a 10 or 20 cent coin to remove the brush bar (twisting the end cap at the side). Once you have removed the brush bar completely from the head, use a chopstick or wooden spoon handle to either push the blockage through or pull it out.

Please also ensure the filter is washed once a month and that the machine is not used to collect carpet products, moisture or fine powders.

If you are unsuccessful in locating the problem, we would value the opportunity to assist you directly and ask that you reach out to our helpline on 1800 239 766. Our helpline is open Monday - Friday 8am - 6pm and Saturday - Sunday 8:30am - 4pm AEDST.

Hi Katherine,

Thanks for your question.

We are excited to hear you are looking at expanding your Dyson family and thank you for your support. The V6 Handsticks are fantastic for small homes (1-2 bedrooms) or for use as a spot cleaner in larger residence (3-4 bedrooms). Due to their connection points, the floor tools and accessories of full size machines and other (older) handheld units are not compatible as they will not connect.

All Handsticks come with a combination accessory tool and crevice tool standard inside the box. Depending on which model you chose, will depend on which main floor tool will be included. We would recommend to take a look at our V6 Motorhead as this machine is suitable for use on both carpet and hard flooring (even surfaces), and also comes with a Mini Motorised tool which is great for use on upholstery around the home and inside the car. You can view our latest range of Handstick units and there accessories online via our website, here is a quick link:

Hi Anne,

Thanks for your question.

Dyson machines are designed to be plugged in to power when not in use to ensure that they are ready to go at all times. While the battery can lose charge over time, this time frame would vary depending per consumer depending on the prior use of the machine and it's storage - this process may take weeks or months, an exact time frame cannot be confirmed. We recommend to store the machine in the docking station so that it is always charged & ready for use.

Hi Primrose,

Thanks for your question.

BY having hair /debris stuck 'high up' in the barrel, we would assume this is around the seal? If that's the case, you can simply remove the clear bin canister by firstly removing the wand/ attachments, then pressing down the red bin release catch twice until it unclips from the main body. Once unclipped, the bin can be wiggled off the cyclone seal and removed completely away from the main body.
