This morning when I tried to use the v6 it does not work as normal - when pressing down the button, the v6 sucks and stop, it won't keep sucking. When I release it and press again it does the same which is about a cycle of sucking then stopped. This has never happened before, do you know what's causing it?

Hi Y.K,

Thanks for your question.

If your machine is revving or surging then this means there is a blockage in your machine. We would ask you to follow the below checkpoints:

Remove the long wand/stick from the machine and test the machine. Is the machine still surging? If the machine is still surging then the issue would either be a blockage inside the gray nozzle of the clear plastic bin or the filter needs to be washed. Please also ensure the flap inside the grey nozzle moves freely. If not, give it a gentle persuasive push until it does. If the machine is not surging when the wand/stick is off. Please check the wand/stick for blockages.

If the wand/stick is clear then the blockage would be inside the motorhead of your machine. Please remove the brushbar from inside the motorhead. The best way to remove it is to use a 10 or 20 cent coin to remove the brushbar (twisting the end cap at the side). Once you have removed the brushbar completely from the head, use a chopstick or wooden spoon handle to either push the blockage through or pull it out.

If we can be of any further assistance please don't hesitate to email us back or call us on 1800 239 766. Our helpline is open Monday - Friday 8am - 6pm and Saturday - Sunday 8:30am - 4pm.

I have just purchased a Dyson V6 when I got it out of the box I tested it out & then went to
plug it in to charge & not sure if it's me or I'm doing something wrong but I cannot get it to ply into the Dyson?? I've tried different angles but I'm a bit worried to mess too much as I don't want to damage it.
Just wondered if anyone had had a similar problem??

If I understand correctly, you are not using the wall mount but want to recharge it. The small plug goes into the battery pack (rectangle looking block with a rounded end) I really hope that helps

Does the charger need to be attached to a wall, as a renter this is not ideal. Can it just be plugged in and charging in a safe place?

Mine is not attached to the wall as I don't have a suitable spot to fix it to a wall that is near a power outlet. So I just charge mine plugged straight into the power point on my kitchen benchtop or in power point on my upstairs hallway landing.

I don't have mine attached to a wall either. It just leans in a corner near a power point.

Hi LRN,

Thanks for reaching out.

The docking station simply acts as a storage unit and in no way changes or affects the charging process. As long as the cable is plugged into a designated power point (not power board) you can connect the cord straight to the machine. The charger will recognise once the battery is full and will switch off accordingly.

We hope this has satisfactorily answered your query today. If we can be of any further assistance please don't hesitate to email us back or call us on 1800 239 766. Our helpline is open Monday - Friday 8am - 6pm and Saturday - Sunday 8:30am - 4pm.

Should you let the battery die completely or is it better for it to be charged before it's completely dead?

I'm sorry I can't help you. I'm a customer just like you. I suggest you call Dyson. I'm sure they would be able to answer all your questions.

Hi Tracy,

Thank you for your question.

We recommend to leave your machine on charge at all times when not in use so it is always ready to go. You may need to let your battery cool down before putting back on charge but it does not need to be completely dead.

Best wishes,

Can i use my dyson handstick v6 whilst still charging or must it be disconnected from the charging cord completely?

It's designed to be used without being connected. Leaving it connected to the charger while using it may damage the battery.

Fantastic thanks for that info.

Unfortunately you will have to disconnect the charger, however the unit chargers really fast, mine from zero to 90% in around 20 mins. But running time on normal is more that enough time to do my whole house (5 beds)

Can the unit be left plugged in constantly so that it's fully charged when I need to use it? Or will this shorten the life of the battery over time. For example, I know that on my cell phone battery your suppose to disconnect once the battery has reached a full charge. Leaving the phone connected once charged shortens the over all life of the battery.

G'day ipaulo
I never leave any rechargeable appliance switched on, or plugged in, after it has been fully recharged. ( a few hours wouldn't matter ).
If the power is switched on and your charger is connected, it will always use a small margin of electricity. Similar like your TV or DVD on stand bay. It's only a few amp's, but it will all ad up on your bill.
The Animal takes 2 to 3 hours to charge. Disconnect and it is always ready for the next job.

I have read the instructions for this reason and it made no reference to unplugging / disconnecting once charged. I have noticed once mine is recharged the light goes out suggesting power is not going to it ? Given it gets used almost daily I have no concerns about leaving it on, yes it may use a very small amount of power but that's the price of convenience. It does suggest waiting a bit before you recharge as this allows time for the battery to cool down, I believe this gives a better recharge.

Thanks for your answers. I really not worried about it using the minute amount of electricity being use by leaving the unit on the charger. What I'm curious to know is by leaving it on the charger constantly, will this result in a shorter life span for the battery. Also if charging this way will shorten the run time faster.

Dyson V6 is fantastic, I have wood floors and a couple of rugs and it's a bit horrifying to see just how much dust there is but I am having a problem emptying the bin, the lower section empties but I have hair and dust collected around the middle section that I can't get to. Have I missed an instruction?

Hi There,
Yes I have noticed this myself on occasion. I use a knife to encourage the hair out. I actually may try a long handled comb as it may grab the hair more easily. Unfortunatley until they are able to provide a bigger bin its something that we may have to put up with.
Hope this helps!

Hi, yeah I have a little trouble there too, I just grabbed an old fork and ever so lightly and gently brush the areas that have become a bit stuck, it loosens very easy and drops out into the bin on a little shake, annoying that it needs to be done but to be honest thats the only issue we have found with it, but its easily solved.
