Light globes keep blowing
We recently purchased a new home with 2 Fanaway lights with remote controls, both units the light was not working. We replaced both the T5 tubes and one worked for a week, then failed, we replaced that tube again and now its blown again after only 2 weeks and the other one has also now failed. I am afraid to replace more globes as it seems something else is wrong? Can anyone please help. We love the concept, but reading other reviews am worried to be wasting money.

ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC
Not sure when we purchased our Fanaway fans but will be contacting Beacon to check. Both fans in our lounge and bedroom are great and have received numerous positive comments. One thing though, our lounge room light will not switch on using the remote. When we press the button on the remote the light flickers momentarily and stays off. The fan still works using the remote. If the fan is running and we attempt to turn on the light, same flickering occurs but the unit makes a continuous noise. Any ideas?

Thank you for your review. Based on your description, it does sound like your remote is not communicating properly with the receiver in your fan, and may need to be replaced. Regards Beacon Lighting Customer Service.

Terrible - nothing but problems.
Bought 4 of the original model - mix of wall and remotes. All have had problems from the controllers failing to the motor high speed no longer working. Just replaced one with a current model (Doh !) after its motor burnt out completely - there is no discernible difference between mid and high speeds. Never again. Will be replacing them all as no confidence in their quality or safety. Great asethic, the potential to be a great product, however paid a premium for a poorly executed product.

Not good
We installed this fan in January 2015 and always had a problem with low speed. It now makes a grinding noise especially on second speed, like a bearing is worn or something
We have 3 other regular fans we have had for over 20 years, and have never had any issues
Unfortunately we can't locate receipt
I can not recommend this product.

Problems, not happy.
I bought a house about 6 years ago. I decided to replace the old fans with these over a period of about 3 years. Bought 8 in total. Have had problems with 7 out of the 8 so far. Ballast failures, fluro failures, light covers going yellow and one which won't go any faster than the slow setting.
I like the look of them but have been unreliable to say the least.
I am seriously considering replacing them all even though I spent over $2500 to buy them originally.

Plagued with problems.
Well, purchased 8 fans in 2011. Worked well for first two years and since then, have replaced each remote control at least once, 4 covers which turned yellow and currently have four other covers that have gone yellow and two fans that won't turn light off using the remote but still operates the fan speed.
Then the issue of fan motor getting louder and louder as years go by. I visited Beacon Lighting few days back to see about changing the other yellow covers and was told that they now charge $50 per cover for replacement. My response was why ...Read more

Very Dangerous Item
We bought 5 fanaway fans for our home. Initially they worked however after the warranty two separate fans dislodged a fan blade. They propelled across the room one nearly hit a visitor and one did hit our TV. It was so lucky that no one was seriously injured.
I have contacted fanaway and beacon where I bought them as yet no response from them. It needs a recall for this product.

Terrible lights! There should be a class action suit for these things.
We outfitted our new home five years ago with lights from Beacon and lights from Online sites in China. The online lights are still working. The Evo 1 have died...every light now has died. They replaced my flush mount light, and the kitchen light. Now the two office lights have blown. We replaced a tube to watch it also die immediately and the ballasts are of course the problem. Seriously, if anyone gets a class-action suit about this I will happily jump on board. I am in a new house and part of the joy of being in a new house is there is less a chance of fire. When my office light sizzles over my head, I don't feel safe.
This is such a wonderful invention. It would be good if it were built properly, and not built to die.

Ballasts are SO annoying!!!!!
So a few years ago I decked out our whole house with Fanaway lights, such a great idea and Australian invention etc. And they are good -- BUT the original ballast one by one have died. Beacon say this is a normal thing and they are go die - but seriously 100% failure rate isn't good. The globes still haven't even gone, I am still using the original globes. So each time this happens I have had to fork out the $25 for each ballast and fiddle around to replace the stupid thing and each time I go to rescrew it in only to discover yet again that...Read more
the screws supplied don't fit, they are too short AND the wrong thread. So then I have to spend another 30 mins trying to find a screw that will fit. For freaking $25 surely you could put the right screws in, and while you are at it if this is a know fault of the lights then maybe you should be providing the balLASTs for free - cause they are a misnomer - the original ones supplied certainly don't last. I actually like the fans though. They are quiet, look good and really do cool down the room. I use the a/c a lot less because of them.1 comment

We bought 4 of these with remote controls 3 years ago. Paid $500 each plus $100 install each. In that time have had failed 3 ballasts and issues with remote controls not responding and now 2 of the fans are becoming noisy (too loud to sleep). Of course none of these problems occurred during the warranty period. We have attempted to see if a service can deal with the noisy fans however we have been advised by a Beacon Lighting recommended electrician that unfortunately with these units there is generally not much that can be serviced, the noisy ...Read more
sounds coming from these fan are likely to be caused by the bearings and/or motor windings. They have recommended to replace the fans rather than attempt to service. Great, that's an average of $200 per year to have a fan that is used for only part of the year. We won't be buying one of these fans ever again. They look great but don't last. Assume that whatever you buy will breakdown as soon as the warranty period is over and buy something cheap that can be replaced.2 comments

Several problems following installation - Fan blades do not extend fully, meaning there is virtually no wind generated on the fastest setting and none at all on the other settings. For some reason the light bulbs do not work when all three are installed. There is a ticking noise when fan is in use. Low setting on remote is High and vice versa. Disappointing
Like others who have commented, we installed Fanaway fan lights (3) as well as matching Fanaway and Lucci lighting in our new home. We chose modern fluros thinking they would be energy efficient etc. These lights hardly get used as there is nobody home most days and we use halogen lamps in the living room at night, but the ballasts and fluros last a ridiculously short amount of time and are ridiculously expensive to replace. As commented by another reviewer, the replacement ballasts don't simply plug in, the wiring is actually wrong, the scr...Read more
ew holes are in the wrong spot and the tape does not hold them in place. Fortunately my husband is able to change them himself. If we had to pay an electrician every time they would be at our house every month! I am very disappointed in the maintenance required for these lights. Prior to buying these lights, I never even knew lights had ballasts! We spent considerable time with the consultant at Beacon Lighting when buying them, and the need to replace the ballasts, as well as globes, was never mentioned. Each time one blows, we have to try to figure out if it is the fluro or the ballast that needs replacing. Both are expensive and we don't want to have to buy both if only one is broken. If I had realised the problems with ballasts, I would have chosen non-fluro lighting. We are currently looking to replace all these lights as the maintenance cost is ridiculous and they are unreliable.1 comment

Worked well at first but having to replace the ballast every two years when it blows is annoying and expensive. It doesn't just plug back in, the double sided tape doesn't hold it, the screw holes don't line up if you bought the original model and if you are not handy, you have to resort to paying someone else to replace it.

Continual issues and now beacon won't honour warranty
I have had the same issues with my fan away ie. Loud buzzing, issues with it not working. The latest issue is that the fan won't turn off ! I had to turn off the main power.

Do not buy, many problems for an expensive fan!
Purchased in 2012 for $349, with Lucci remote an extra $99.95. Only 18 months later the unit began playing up, the light would flicker and turn itself off. Lodged a call out with beacon lighting which cost me $150 as only a 12 month warranty period, and we were out of warranty. Remote control and receiver in the fan were found to be at fault, paid for a new remote, plus extra time to have it installed. Now just over two years later the exact same thing has started to happen again. Light flickers and switches itself off. Assuming it is the same problem, but cannot afford to fix it again, as it seems we are throwing good money at a bad product. Very disappointing and would not recommend this product to anyone.

Noisy fans and now issues with warranty service!!! Inconveienced and Bad customer service with Beac
So purchased 3 Evo1 Prevails, and 2 of 3 have been making noises since installation. One is very noisy and loud especially when trying to sleep at night. And the other makes a ticking noise when it spins. After a year (as we've been renovating and had a baby) finally getting around to contacting warranty to get them replaced and now Beacon are only offering to replace them with the EVO2. Which looks completely different to the EVO1 (does not have the silver trim) and not what I would have purchased in the first place. So it wont match the third...Read more
fan I have and we painted the ceiling roses white so the silver edges of the EVO1 stands out and it is a feature of our rooms. The other option is a refund, which means I'm left with one EVO1 in one room and will have different fans in the other. Also not ideal! Disappointing, really really disappointing!! If I want them replaced under warranty for an EVO1 which is what I purchased in the first place, then I have to pay extra. Because the EVO1 has been upgraded to LED from the EVO1 which I purchased originally. Crazy!! As far as I'm concerned my warranty should replace my EVO1 with another EVO1 (upgraded version or not), the same product is still being sold (clearly upgraded due to the faulty product) so it should be replaced with the same product regardless if its been upgraded... So think twice before buying these as even though it has a warranty you will still loose out and be very inconvenienced if it is faulty.1 comment

We have 4 fanaways in our house. All the Balasts have gone, at least once. 2 of the lights now flicker so badly they are virtually unusable and the remote on one won't work at all. These fans are not cheap! Having spoken to several Beacon Lighting stores, some have said there have been problems with them but they all say they are out of warranty so nothing they can do. I would never buy one again, and because of the general lack of acknowledgement I would not shop at Beacon Lighting again.

Kris Oasked
Hi twice now I have purchased new remotes as the light section works but the fan does not. This solved the problem for a short time but now again I have bought two more remotes (more than $380 in remotes) to find I have the same issue as many other people here. It’s light on and full fan or off at the wall and no light.so either I am freezing or I am in the dark. New remotes work perfectly in the other rooms, so I know it’s the actual fan that is the issue. We are using a torch now in our bedroom. Our fans are about six years old now. How can I solve this problem. Is there a way to disable the fan?? So I’m not in the dark at night

Hi George, replacement remotes can be sourced from your closest Beacon Lighting store, depending on the fan you have and how many years you have had it, it maybe under warranty. I would suggest you contact the store directly with the SKU number of the fan, and if the remote was purchased, the SKU no. of this and they will be able to assist you with costing, Debbie - Fanaway Customer Service
