For my newly purchased (second hand) slightly older model RF522ADUX1, is this the correct water and ice kit #836854 (see link below)? Do I need a 350kPa PRV (it also mentions a 600kPa valve)?

What is strange is the genuine article (see link) is $190 while all the online companies and trade site(s) are asking $219 - $223 (with 'RRP $395') for the exact same kit!!

Can I connect my fridge directly through a PRV and into the unit without a filter? Melbourne water is perfectly fine, I don't see why I need to filter it and get into the replacement filter buying cycle. Thanks in advance for help.

If you are happy drinking Melbourne tap water.
Defiitely fit PRV - guarantees constant volume and reduces risk of ruptured water hose.
Most times F&P parts are cheaper than 3rd party.

How does the water dispenser go - it looks really shallow compared with other designs. Seems like you'd have to jam the glass right up against it. Any issues with dribbling?

Yes you hold glass or bottle against tag and it dispenses instantly and stops without drips also instantly on release. It doe have a small drip tray but I have never had to empty it. A light comes on while water is being dispensed.

We brought the unit without the dispenser unit, so sorry i can't give you an answer to your question

Does the fridge come with the Ice & Water Filter Kit? Or do I have to buy it separately?

There are two models, with & without the filter & ice maker, we bought the model with the filter & ice maker. After initially being concerned with reliability down the track we were convinced enough to go with it. So far, excellent.

The model we bought has it all included. After our first one died within a month I must say that so far the replacement is performing beautifully.

Its not instant making ice. If you have done settings as per instructions wait 24hr. Machine probably still. Making ice.

Dedbny
Dedbny

Also did you purge enough to get all air out of line. Give it a bit of time and it should start working.

Thank you Dedny. Woke this morning to no ice. We can hear the icemaker trying to turn to offload the ice but it doesnt turn. We think it has something to do with the mechanics of the machine.

Why does the fridge keep stopping making ice?

Should only stop if tray full. If you empty tray it will continue to make ice as far as I kmow.

We emptied the tray which didn't help. This is the third the it's stopped. it usually starts again in a day or 2 but this time it seems to have decided to stop altogether. Maybe we need to contact Fisher Paykel. Thanks for your reply.

I love the fridge, but lately it's starting to make loud, rattling noises, originally I thought it was something rattling in the doors, but even after removing the contents it still does it. When it's making the noise, you can just push on one of the doors and it temporarily stops, which also shows me it's not the contents in the door....any suggestions?

It is very difficult to make an accurate diagnosis of the specific cause without the benefit of inspecting your appliance.

If you would like to arrange a technician to attend to your refrigerator, you can call our 24-hour Customer Care Centre on 1300 650 590 and a Customer Representative will assist you with service in your area.

Alternatively, you can search for service in your area by using our online locator at the following link: http://www.fisherpaykel.com/au/support/service-appliances#request-a-service

If there is a Fisher & Paykel technician in your area, a form will be generated which you can complete to submit a service request using our online booking facility. Otherwise, the locator will provide you with the contact details for the Authorised Service Centre(s) near your area.

Does this fridge need to be plumbed?

4 answers
Nick

Hi Ann,
Yes the fridge needs to be plumbed for the ice and water dispenser.
What I did was I got additional 5m length 6mm white water hose identical to the one that came with the fridge (ONLY 3m hose came with the fridge filter kit) and ran the hose from under the sink tap outlet. I got a cold water tap splitter with 6mm outlet form Bunning and ran the hose to the fridge from under the kitchen cabinet.

Dedbny
Dedbny

We had a separate cold water stop tap installed to back of fridge. This is the normal install. May need a water hammer resistor as well.

You can add a mini stop tap with 2 x 15mm outlets. One goes to the kitchen sink mixer/tap and the other can be used for connection to fridge water supply. I have the filter under the kitchen sink so it's out of sight.

Our new RF522ADUSX5 (two months old) makes ice perfectly but the water from the door is not cooled at all. Help, please.

It should be chilled, but not the first few glasses. Our old fridge water came through freezer section and was cold. So if your not getting chilled (colder than tap water) after a say 5 glassed you may need to get it serviced. Call FP for help. If your near Brighton VIC you can test ours. Good luck.

Check fridge settings also. Put colder temp as I think water is from fridge temp. That might help.

Hi Missy79

Yes, we are very happy with the fridge we bought. It is very quiet, looks good, the water is not cold but refreshingly cool, the ice maker works well. Although the freezer drawer is a bit stiff whilst being closed, is not a great problem as reported by a few. Like all things - sometimes one might get a problem one. So far, nothing has fallen off.

I've only had mine for about six months so it's probably too early to tell. It is a little noisy but it's just the motors doing a lot of things. Not rattle noisy or anything like that it's just noisy comparable to my old fridge. I don't notice the noise much now.

Loving the chilled filtered water although where you put the glass up to it is quite flat and smooth and I sometimes slip, causing water to spill. A little annoying, I just have to concentrate while filling. A great feature is a timer for putting a bottle of drink in the freezer. The ice maker works well. I turn it off at night because it can rattle a bit when dropping the ice and refilling the tray but I was probably half awake when I heard it. It's never woken me up. I actually prefer trays that I can refill, like my old fridge (I wish I'd kept those)

One of the reasons I chose this one over others is it's clean lines. It's a little boxy and boring to look at but inside the shelves are more easily moveable than some, and the shelving in some were so stylish that they took up too much room and limited their adjust-ability.

Mine is actually the SX4 which is 440 ltr. This size is plenty big enough for my partner and I.

I am one of those people who believe that you attract what you put your energy into. I always believe that my appliances work well and they do and I no longer look for problems with things, so they don't break down. (Yes, they come to the end of their life with mechanical issues but my last fridge was a Westinghouse from a discount department store and served me well for 15 years.)

How good is the ice maker?

My model does not have an icemaker. But I have just had another hinge replaced. They tell me it is a design fault and new ones made of stronger material.

Rose

Hi Jeff

The ice maker is good. Once the ice bucket is full, it stops making any. There is some noise when the ice cubes fall into the bucket. We have had no problems so far and nothing has fallen off either.

We have been using the new fridge & freezer for a couple of weeks now. The freezer drawer seems very difficult to open and close and makes a loud metal grating sound like it is off it's bearings, but can't see any actual problem. Today we found the freezer had defrosted, unsure when or why but possibly because it wasn't quite closed all the way last night (visually extremely hard to tell). We tested and found that if it is left 5mm 'open' the alarm will not beep. Is our freezer drawer faulty or is this normal?
