My kubota cuts off when you lower the deck. Any suggestions?
1 answer
G'day Avenia.
Will the motor keep running if the deck is raised straight away, or does the motor stall after the deck blades put the motor under load ? Check your Operators Manual. Assuming that this is a recent occurrence & you are sitting in the operators seat & the blades rotate freely, check, the PTO Switch, Motion Levers & Key Switch are in the correct position. Failing that, a lockout switch may be out of adjustment or faulty.
Hope this helps. Cheers. Trev.

My Kubota z125 runs up and down, then dies. Starts right up. After I start it, if I wait a minute or so, it will rev normally, then I can mow. Ultimately, after a few minutes of mowing, it dies. Fuel filter??

I'm running into this same issue Mike. I have replaced fuel filter and drained and refilled tank. Did you find a solution?

My mower starts runs then stops after an hour running. Gas is fine changed fuel filter air cleaner and check fuel gauge setting. When it stops I can start right back up but not engage mower deck or it cuts off again. Any ideas?

I have a Z121S. Does anyone know the purpose of saturating the pre-cleaner on the air filter with fresh engine oil? I just did the service on it which is to wash the pre-cleaner and let it air dry but the manual says to saturate it with new engine oil and squeeze out the excess before re-installing. Any help is appreciated.
1 answer
CMark. Oil is to trap particles before the secondary filter, hence increasing the service intervals. My model did not come with this foam pre-cleaner. The dealer supplied an after-market foam cylinder as most of my mowing is in very dusty conditions. Special (sticky) oil can be purchased for this purpose from most motorcycle shops. I use Castrol Foam Air Filter Oil on all my engines that have a foam pre-cleaner.
I wash my foam filters in hot water with detergent, allow to air dry then lightly oil. Hope this helps. Cheers. Trev.

Mower mows ok; no mechanical trouble so far: 50 Hrs on mower: my major complaint is the grass discharge system makes this Z125 the nastiest mower I’ve ever operated: seems impossible to not have funnel of debris come up on top of operator constantly. Any ideas how to change or adjust to make more operator friendly?

We have had numerous times with the drive belt breaking. Just wondering if anyone has had kubota to buy lawnmower back due to numerous problems?

Jennifer.
There must be a very simple reason why your belt is breaking.
Any good mechanic should be able to spot the problem. Belts don't just break for no reason.
I would not expect my Local Agent to buy my mower back if this simple ongoing problem could be avoided.
You do not mention your other problems. Find out if someone else is having belt problems.
Mine has only done 4 hours.
Cheers. Trev.
Recently my belt broke as well and the cause was found. A few small pieces of mulch got trapped where the pulleys are and caused it to shred and then fall off. Had I not seen it myself, I never would have believed it. So, I am now pulling off the belt pulley guards after each mowing and blowing that area all out. This should not happen with a good design, but....
I have a Kubota BX24 tractor and the Z125S zero turn and I send Kubota a list of engineering changes/improvements they can make on these at least once a year. Maybe, someday, sometime, they will listen to me and incorporate the improvements!
Im having the same issue with Z125S. 2 broken belts in the first 15 hours of use. Dealer informed me today he has opened a case with kubota. Dealer has determined belts are getting hot from riding too low on pulleys. Awaiting a response or fix from kubota. Did you get a resolution with yours yet?

I have a Kubota Z122R mower that runs, then sputters, then dies, start it up and it repeats. I've replaced air filter, fuel filter 2 times, changed oil, and 1 spark plug(just noticed today while trying to fix it, it has 2 spark plugs. Now it runs only when choke is on. My son left me the mower and I don't know where the manual is. I'm not a mechanic and don't know what is going on. Yard's a mess. Please help quickly. Brian Pierce

Brian, I had the same problem with my Z125S, so I can relate to your frustration. It seems that Kubota had an issue with some of the zero-turns whereby the speed/choke line was not adjusted properly and the choke would not be completely open when the speed lever was in the choke position. The solution? adjust the choke/speed cable so that the choke is open when the lever is placed in that position. It should take you about 15-minutes or so, start to finish. Once I did this to mine, it has worked great and I have been able to throw away the starting fluid that I had been using (sometimes successfully) to start my zero-turn!
Good luck!
AJH3. I think you've nailed it. If I was you Brian, I would get a mechanic to do the adjustments if you don't have a manual.
The manual would have told you that it was a twin cylinder motor, etcetera.

My Z125s is leaving a strip of grass towards the left side of the deck.(between 1st and 2nd set of blades).
Also, the left hand bar/lever isn't going completely toward like it should. When you push both hand levers towards to the max, the right goes forward a lot more. Any ideas?
Thanks, Kyle V.

Look at the base of the hand levers, they can be adjusted so they can be "centered" to one another. Mine were off by almost 1-inch at the handles themselves when I bought mine. A simple adjustment with a wrench took seconds and all was "centered" thereafter.
As for the leaving a strip of grass toward the left side, mine has done the same thing. what does seem to help is to position the three blades the way they are shown in the owners manual. This ensures the mowing is not affected by the overlapping of the blades. I mow about 4 acres of grass and find that I have to do this about every 3rd mowing, and if you hit something with the blades other than grass, they will likely need repositioned again!

i have a Z121SKH-48 with the Kohler ZT720 motor. When cutting the motor stalls under load whenever i run it at more than about half throttle. i have replaced the fuel filter and the spark plugs. When it acts like it is stalling, i turn off the PTO and it labors with fluctuating RPM's, when is set it to the half throttle point it seems to level out most of the time. It really appears to be fuel supply. Any suggestions to correct this problem so i can use it to cut some real grass not puttering around? The unit only has 65 hours on it.
1 answer
G'Day Ron. If it starts & idles easily, check that your air filter & carby are clean & governor is functioning correctly. Settings will be in your manual. You should get more than 65 hours out of plugs & fuel filter, if you are using clean, fresh fuel. Cheers.

My Z122E starts up ok with choke engaged, but stalls at full throttle. Sometimes it runs ok at full throttle, then has trouble when the blades are engaged. Any ideas? Carburetor? The machine only has 100 hours on it...

G'Day Jeff. I am no small motor expert. Sounds like your motor is starving for fuel. Check fuel filter then fuel supply, (old petrol will loose it's calorific value). Next check will be for foreign matter in the carby. (blocked jets or galleries). If all of that's OK, check the motor speed governing system.
Most of this is covered in your operators manual.
Cheers.Trev.
Thanks Trev. I did a quick carb clean out with some spray in cleaner, seems to have solved my issue. At least for now... I suspect fuel turned bad on me over the off season and plugged something up in there. We’ll see if it holds up or if I have to strip it all the way out and do a full chem dip.

I have a Kubota 121S Zero turn that run good for a minute then won't hardly run. Sometimes it runs good then cuts off and won't crank for a couple of minutes. It does't matter if it's cutting or not the result is the same. What's causing this problem?
1 answer
G'Day Greg. Just a guess, I had a similar problem on a different brand of mower. (My Z122R has only done 4 hrs) If it yours won't even crank after stopping, I would be checking the wiring & lockout switches. Cheers. Trev.

My Z125E shut off while I was mowing. I figured it might be the PTO switch, so I pushed the yellow PTO switch and there was a clicking sound. It clicked again when I pulled the switch up to activate and down again to disengage the switch. Again the click. So, I reached under the fender and unplugged the switch. Still won't start. Plugged it back in. Still won't start. Is there a way to bypass the PTO or the safety feature of the PTO so I can start it and drive it onto a trailer?n Too heavy to push on.

My z125s will mow great for 15 min then start to sputter and die unless I turn the blades off and move the handles outward then will idle back up. I changed the fuel filter and no change. Any help?

It could be your fuel pump..don't get the Kohler one its 154.00 they have a after market for under 30.00
I had the same issue with my Z125S. I changed the filter and pump, only to realize it was a build-up in the line coming out of the gas tank (before the fuel filter). Pull the line out of the tank and remove downstream line. Blow out debris. When you re-install the line, put the rubber grommet in first and then thread the line into the gas tank. Works like a champ now.
