Auto off
Auto off button flashing and then turning off iron immediately. I have tried to unplug and leave for a while before plugging in again but that does not make a difference. Is there anything else I can try .What's happening ? . Kids back at school tomorrow and no uniforms ironed. Not happy.

Powerlife Stick
We bought this iron a few years ago and have battled along with it sticking to most of our clothes. The iron works but it is hard work because it just doesn't glide along the fabric as it should and some modern stretch fabrics start to burn before the crinkles actually come out. At the weekend we went and bought a new iron because we just got fed up with it and our new iron made us realise how bad this one had been. Needless to say, our new iron isn't a Philips, nor will I be keen to buy a Philips iron again.

Pretty terrible
Have been through many Phillips irons and always been happy however this one quickly became covered with back, sticky residue which despite trying a few different chemicals to remove is firmly stuck. While searching for this solution I came across a piece of advice "Buy a decent quality iron with a non-stick plate. A good iron will offer more reliable combinations of heat level and steam making it easier to successfully iron the sort of fabric which leaves a black deposit on the base of the iron. If you must wear clothes containing artificial f...Read more
ibres the quality of the iron becomes critical as they can be remarkably difficult to get smooth without using a heat level which causes some melting of the material onto the iron". So after a few weeks am off to buy another one - with a non stick surface!Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Went up in smoke.
The iron smoked a bit in first use which I assumed was normal. During the second use, my husband asked about the smoke. During the third use, it smoked enough to trigger our fire alarm. I believe we got a faulty one iron. We were very disappointed. Luckily, the shop accepted a return on the product.
comfortable grip, reasonable cord length
faulty, set off our smoke detector

Great iron
Had this given to me as a house warming present and I really love it. It has a good cord length and a big water reservoir. It glides over my clothes easily and has great steam and heat options. Irons my delicate and synthetics with care, and is great on my fiancées thick work uniforms.
Good all round iron

Philips GC2960 Steam'stick'
The sole plate to this iron sticks to clothes and in my case it's definitely the iron as my old Sunbeam never use to do this and the clothes and ironing board cover are the same. Whether the clothes be whites or blacks, it collects and burns material onto the soleplate which is hard to get off. If it happens once, the sole plate gets worse, pressing lightly alleviates the problem until the next sticky encounter. To remove the burnt material I've tried using bi-carbonate of soda (while the iron is warm), jif, sugar soap and in frustration steel ...Read more
wool which of course wrecked the sole plate. Descaling which involves filling the reservoir with water, pushing a slider to 'calc clean' then shaking the warm iron up and down over the sink is a joke. It removes little water, most of it stays in the reservoir. Mine may be an exception but I give the product bottom marks as I've had to throw it out. Does the basics well marred by a sticky soleplate. Steam and spray functions work great. Uses tap water. Soleplate sticks to clothes, calc clean is ineffective.6 comments
Vinegar is also an effective cleaner on the soleplate but ineffective on the stain I had. One Con I forgot to mention was this iron is thirsty...forever filling it...it used a lot of water.

Hi Triple7Reviews
Sorry to hear about your experience.... Read more
The soleplate shouldn’t burn fabric on to it. The idea of steam Glide is the ceramic soleplate, picks up the fabric and stretches it in order to push steam through the Creases and untangle the fibres. However it should not be marking the soleplate so badly. The issue you have experienced may be due to a number of factors... Have you checked your iron settings? i.e for a silk garment you will need to adjust the soleplate to the correct setting via the dial. Alternatively it may be an issue with the heat. If so, we recommend contacting our Customer Support team on 1300 363 391 who will advise of your nearest Service Centre or have it replaced under warranty (if applicable). Hope this helps. Kind regards The Philips TeamThank you for replying!

Phillips Steam Glide - doesn't work, does not clean as they say, Phillips lousy warranty
I would never buy a Phillips iron again. The label on my Phillips iron said 'With SteamGlide soleplate' which seemed to portray that it would glide easily but it got a brown stain on the sole plate within 2 weeks of buying it. I contacted Phillips who said this happens to all irons and is not covered under warranty. The booklet indicates the sole plate can be cleaned just by wiping it off, but this statement is false because the soleplate cannot be cleaned with water (or anything else for that matter!!) I cannot get the iron clean at all. T...Read more

Yes, same here. I felt the need to comment about the sticky sole plate so I wrote my own review. It's a shame for an otherwise good iron.

f others. Phillips has never replied to my review nor offered any solution or backup through Warranty despite calling them several times. Nothing would clean the iron plate even though I tried many products including Iron Magic. By the time I had spent $20 more buying stuff to clean the iron I didn't think it was worth spending any more money on it. The iron still works but the base plate is now completely black. It is very disappointing that Philips doesn't listen to it's customers or provide a proper warranty. I hope they have stopped making this iron because it's a dud and they should be more proud of their name which used to be a good one.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

I bought this steam iron in particular because I have read good reviews about it on vairous online sources. The steam comes out quite nicely. Easy to use, has some weight to it too . made ironing easier. the indications on the iron are easy to read as well. good value.

I have been using the same iron for 27 years ( also a Phillips) and it finally had to be retired. When I got the Phillips PowerLife I thought I was in heaven. So light and it irons the clothes beautifully.

Why didn't I change earlier
Having used the same iron for too many years, it was sheer joy to be given a new iron like the Philips Powerlife. It heats up very fast, glides across all fabrics and is quiet too.
The pointy nose fits between buttons and the steam settings seem very effective.
It switches off automatically when left still for too long, and the silicon edged base means it sticks when you put it down without wobbling.
I've never liked ironing so much!
Great value, fast heating and quiet.
A little bit hard to read the settings on the dial under the handle, but you soon get used to them.

Good but not great
The iron I bought (Philips GC2960) had a faulty water reservoir lid (it wouldn't close properly), but I tried it out anyway to see whether I should just exchange it for the same model or upgrade to another one. For the brief time I tried it, it ironed pretty well, at least as well as my 20-year-old stainless steel-soleplated Sunbeam, anyway. It's light and glides easily, and produces good amounts of steam. I liked the pointy tip and the steam boost worked well. The dial has markings showing you which of the two steam settings to use, which is h...Read more
elpful. It's a good buy for the money, and if it hadn't had the faulty lid I would have been happy with it. As it happened, though, I upgraded to the GC4865, and I'm glad I did, because the extra weight and steam pressure make ironing almost a pleasure - I found myself looking for things to iron to see how easily it would flatten them! The Azure model reminded me of when I used to like ironing (with my mum's iron, from the days when appliances were made to work well and to last). So if you're wondering if there's a difference between the various series (like I did), there definitely is, and if you iron often I would say get the better model if you can afford it. Light, glides easily Faulty reservoir lid, only two steam settings, a bit noisy1 comment

Hello, I have a GC2990 model, a couple of questions:
1) it is near impossible to see the water level due to the dark casing. Am I blind? Is a light I can’t see?
2) why does it stick to everything? No matter or fabric.
3) why do the steam holes not go all the way to the tip of the sole plate?
I bought this because I wanted to be able to adjust the temperature setting myself so disappointed about these other things.
