RACV still reliable.
The whole process from quotation to payment was very east. We had to cancel our May 2020 trip to USA as I don't see us travelling again until there is a vaccination for Covid 19. We asked RACV for a return of premium which they granted as long as we did not intend to make any claims, and because we were cancelling within date conditions. Refund processed in a couple of days.

Disappointing Rip Off
I have used RACV travel insurance for many years and, during that time, have only ever made one tiny claim so I was really shocked at their response to the following:
In October 2022 I booked a 3.5 week trip having taken out the insurance policy in August 2022. The trip was due to start April 30th but, due to coronavirus, I couldn't travel so I took credits from the company I was due to travel with which have to be used before December 2021.

r OR if the remaining months on my multi could be refunded. I was told no on both counts even though it is painfully clear that applying either of these options is way cheaper for the RACV than giving me a refund of thousands for a cancelled trip. And it would be good customer service.

Very Disappointed
I purchased domestic travel insurance on 29/01/20. RACV have advised that we knew about COVID-19 on 20/01/20 even though WHO on their website hadn't reached a consensus on 22-23 Jan and didn't declare until 30th Jan. The person that I spoke to said there were warnings on the domestic insurance page. I challenged him that there were no such warnings on quote and payment pages which he then admitted that you had to go into different links that weren't!!! obvious and I even doubt they were there on this date as I would have seen. have a clue about COVID-19 late January in Australia and if you were so certain why did you take my money on the 29th Jan and why didn't you clearly warn people about purchasing a product after 20th Jan that they would not be covered. I'm surprised that people have written on this site that they have easily received a refund for policy. I cannot get this even though the ACCC are asking insurance companies to refund in good faith. Why are some refunded and others aren't? Is it because policies are purchased before 20th Jan or is it who you get on the other end of the phone??? Will never use again and I worked for the company for 13 years. Hiding behind the date of 20th January and did not warn purchasers after this date that they would not be covered. Should have been transparent. POOR FORM in a very stressful time for so many people. You are taking people's money who won't be travelling. Give a refund.

Consultant assumed and kept on making mistakes to deny the claim! Rude!
Lodged the claim on 17.03.2020 and was denied on 01.05.2020. I always use Racv as aninsurance company very happy about it up until now gace me a nightmare! RIP off
Travel was cancelled due to covid19. Asked racv to extend out policy to cover rebooking for 2021 and they wont extend it or give us refund. Cost $1100+. Told that because I bought the policy in Oct 2022 as we were told to do by travel agent that it expired in april 2021. Under the circumstances I would have thought extending the policy for another 3 months would have been good customer service

Disappointing service and weak excuses!
I booked a return flight to Mumbai on the 2nd December 2022 to visit my ailing mother-in-law who is 89 years old, much before there were any alarm bells about a virus epidemic. My departure from Melbourne was on the 20th February 2020 with a return back on the 21 st March 2020. As my carrier cancelled my return arrangements on the 17 th March 2020 without any warning merely stating "Unavoidable Circumstances" and was refusing to communicate (and is still unwilling to reply)I had to re-book on a different carrier incurring additional costs of $ ...Read more

When I requested RACV for a refund amount less their excess charges, I was turned down for they stated that as WHO announced the dangers of the virus on the 31 st January 2020, and I booked my insurance on the 17 Th February 2020 I should have been fully aware of its implications, despite withstanding the fact a pandemic was declared by WHO on the 11th March 2020, by which time I was in India. Considering the fact that the Federal Government was imposing self-isolation measures from the 15th March 2020 and has carried out several mercy flights to multiple nations, RACV should bear the moral responsibility of compensating all customers who are in a similar plight. I did dispute the RACV about the unfairness of their decision but as of date have not received any reply. When a international calamity occurs it is appalling that insurance companies pay lip service to the letter of the law (their PDS) and forget its spirit or the true meaning of customer service.1 comment

We are stuck overseas because of corona and RACV is not helping us extend our policy
My policy should have been till the 21st and they have only done it till the 20th which is fault on their behalf because I provided my flight details. On the other hand I have been in lockdown in another country and didn’t have a chance to leave these premises to buy the allocated credit to be able to contact internationally so I could extend the policy and they aren’t extending it even though it was not in our power that we got stuck here.

If you’re travelling take RACV with you!
I have been using this travel insurance for the past 2 years and have due to unforeseen circumstances had to make claims multiple times. Each and every time racv have exceeded my expectations not only with the timely and easy to access claims process but also with the human empathetic support given in times of high stress while abroad.
I would highly recommend racv travel insurance for a stress free, care free holiday! These guys have always got your back! Great job racv!!:)

Fair and Expeditious Processes
Policy was good value, and was convenient to set up on line even for oldies like us.
Because of the COVID-19 travel chaos our travel had to be cancelled and we sought a cancellation of our policy after the start of our travel date. We were offered 2 options - a full refund or a change of travel dates. We opted for the refund because we reckoned it would be several months, before we could contemplate new dates. An RACV rep immediately confirmed the refund details.
WE have used RACV travel insurance once before (in 2022) and our one claim in that instance was accepted and paid out expeditiously.
We will use this service again when we travel internationally.

Disappointed
We were given a trip credit for a trip book over Easter which was cancelled due to COVID-19. I rang RACV to see if I could change the travel dates and was told I range 2 days too late. No working with me in a time that is difficult for everyone, where RACV should have know my trip was cancelled, just too bad. Very disappoint won't use them again and would not recommend other did either.

Delaying ending claim
I sent in an online claim, before the Corona virus was affecting airlines on a large scale. Travel was in May. Yet the airline went broke after I had already purchased insurance. I have endeavoured to persue just a leg of my trip in which the airline went broke. As I am very patient, however, I seem to be told 10 working days from the beginning. They asked for paperwork from the broke airline. Hello?? I cannot get that but gave them correspondence to a sister airline stating the fact which they had received. 10 days because they asked of more paperwork. They are just looking to delay payment. And now it has been from the "last lot of paperwork" they receive from me. I am very dissapointed. Well today again, I called, it has been 14 days since my last lot of repeated correspondence sent in. They now say they forgot about Easter. Yet Easter has been accounted for and I havent included those days in the "10days" I would receive a letter an confirmation of payout. Theyre lucky I havent as yet claimed for other flights which I am in my rights to do so, but am persuing airlines separately to this claim. I was told now to call back at a certain time (likely their tea break) They must be sick of my calls, as I am sick of this on going joke doing an online claim with little help from anyone there other than more duress.1 comment

Refund of duplicate policy
Unable to find evidence of any original policy when going to check effects of pandemic declaration on an existing policy, took out another policy. Several weeks later when checking computer, found existing policy taken out mid November. Although it was more than three weeks after taking out second policy, refund was given without question. Process efficient and professional. Have always had good experiences dealing with RACV contacts. Thank you.

Travel insurance cancellation
Service on our request was speedy. However, method of repayment was not included. Will it be repaid to master card or by cheque? Looking forward to your reply. Next year, after virus we hope to use RACV insurance for our planned holiday.

RACV make denials of claim up, Id suggest that you read a number of the one star responses, I have seen them deny travel delay claim because "Mechanical failure " is not covered, total rubbish, Ive seen a travel inconvenience claim denied because the traveller had their drivers Lisc stolen and the car hire company would not allow the car to be hired that with out a Drivers Lisc, claiming a drivers Lisc is not a required document - Just Rubbish
