We moved into our brand new house in December 2012 which has a Rheem 27 fitted.
From the day we moved in we have had trouble with a deafening loud noise that comes from the system and a total loss off pressure to the tap after it has sat for periods without use. (Like over night, or late in the evenings to do dishes)
Finally today September 2013 FINALLY someone came out to have a look at the system.
After many phone calls to Rheem and many different tests performed, the plumber was informed by Rheem, This is part of the "cold start up" a...Read more
nd thats the way it is. We now have a hot water service that we can not use late at night or early in the morning because the noise is so loud it wakes everyone in our house and also the neighbors house. Deafening noise that comes after unit has sat for long periods.

e water down so that they can heat it quicker without wasting water. This to me sounds like a great idea and I don't have any issues with it having a water saving feature. My issue is that I get the god awful noise coming from my unit at the first initial "cold start" on a cold morning. I am located in Canberra and the only time that this noise comes from the unit is first thing and on the cooler months in summer it doesn't make the noise even when it does the "cold start".Similar opinion? Works perfect for me 100%
I was worried about getting one after reading bad reviews on here but now It is in I love it and it has no problems at all, I thought I might not have enough gas flow to run it as my outlet was only about a half an inch copper pipe going to the units 1 inch pipe but no problems.
The wall controller is great after not ever having one before.
Takes about 2 mins to reach the kitchen with very hot water but saying that I can't remember how long it took with the old tank unit so maybe just because it is on the other side of the house. but the shower ( near the unit) comes hot in 15 secs.

ivered. I have checked and there is no user adjustment possible (on other brands eg Bosch it is possible for the user to adjust temperature). I have contacted Rheem and they advised I need to call out a Rheem service technician to replace components, at significant cost, so that the temperature setting can be increased.. If I was building a new house I definitely would not install Rheem.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Basically a broken product
I had this water heater (16 model) installed when the old heater died of old age. The plumber kept saying how good this "new" water heaters are compared to the old types (because they do not require any adjustments when installed), and that they keep the water temperature the same at any flow. Well, the heater turned to be much worse then the old unit, and definitely so bad as to wonder how any self respecting company could sell one. It takes a long time for the water to start getting hot, but what is worse, this heater does not work basically...Read more
at any flow other max. At lower flows it cuts out from time to time (for about 10 seconds at a time) or it stops heating water completely. Sadly since the house is not mine there is not much I can do to remedy this situation. irrelevant given it's problems Slow in turning on, cuts out from time to time, only works at maximum, can't use water saving shower head, no user adjustments inside, website does not have the manual

Dont buy this model, not worth it
This model came with the new house I bought. This model is gutless and can not deliver hot water when two taps open. When me or my partner wash dishes other one can not have shower as the unit cant deliver hot water. It broke down just after 3 years warranty period. I am glad it did break down as now i get a better rinnai gas hot water system. It worked fine in summer, however in the winter it kept throwing flame failure, ignition failure errors (codes 12/11). I got hot water for 2 min then followed by 5 mins of cold water then 2 min of hot wate...Read more
r again...I got sick of this as I had stand in the shower in cold until 2 mins of hot water came again. Rheem charge $130 per tech to come and troubleshoot (which include 1/2 hour check) then $22 per nect 15min. At that rate i was better of getting a new system than trying to save a gutless hot water system. Save your self lot of trouble, dont buy this. Very dissatisfied with this product
Purchased the Rheem 27 continuous hot water system in November 2012, have had nothing but trouble. Same as a lot of other reviewers, water runs hot & cold, then it has had to have a circuit board & fan replaced, now still doesn't work. We live in very regional Australia, don't have rheem techs out here, & am now very very pinged off.
No hot water for 3 weeks, will probably need more parts, has cost us a fortune already because there is a fair bit of travel just for someone to come & tell us it doesn't work!!! Have had experience with a Rinnai, am very disappointed we didn't buy one of those, use less gas, & don't break down!

Luke warm
Just bought a house with the 875 series HWS installed - the 48deg max temperature is pathetic for washing dishes As the unit is "factory preset" to a max of 48deg there is no way apparently to increase it to a useable figgure. Taps need to be turned on close to flat out to keep the burner running.
The unit other wise appears to function corectly just if you go to buy one DONT waste your money on the 875 series get the 871 and at least have the option of having water hot enough to wash up in.
Two people can shower at the same time (as long as you both like the same temperature water)
Limited to 48deg not hot enough to wash the dishes

Dont waste you $$$$
Over $1000 of junk, worst investment i have made on my house, waste more water than save, kids can no longer have showers as water goes from very hot to cold they now have a bath as we dont want them getting burnt by the hot water(thats when it stays hot which is normally about 30 seconds) waste more water adjusting the temp than we actually use while having a shower
The cover would maybe make a good letterbox
Does not supply hot water consistantly

Product is hopeless
Plumber recommended and installed Rheem unit, problems from 1st use, have to have the hot water fully open, add cold to make warm and it cuts out hot, have to have water too hot to shower, plumber removed 9l/s restrictor in shower to allow more water flow, improved slightly, but now use excess water! can only use one shower, as soon as another tap, shower, kitchen, yard etc, unit cuts out with no hot water!
Thought it would be cheaper to run than electricity, less polution
Will only work with one tap open at a time, water too hot to shower, can't cool enough before cutting out, higher water use

Unit faulty error code 61 and no hot water. Hopefully repair person will show up as promised tomorrow. Very disappointing for unit that is only 1 month old. Other than this the unit did produce hot water effectively for the first month and I like the concept better than a conventuals cylinder.

Awesome product, can't fault it, just as good as the electric storage hot water system it replaced
Have now had this unit installed for over a week. It is fantastic. I can't tell any difference between it and the storage electric hot water system it replaced. Water is hot all the time, doesn't vary in pressure, and it's nice to know I'm not wasting power heating up 250 litres of water all day.
Good quality product made in Japan.
Energy efficient, well priced, peforms exceptionally well

Avoid like the plague
This really is one of the worst products on the market. The flow and temperature of the water is terrible and the build quality of the unit even worse. The only reason I could see anyone buying this is if they are a builder intent on cutting costs with no regard to the occupants.
Almost everything. Weak pressure, low temperatures, unreliable.

d not let us know when they going to come. We could only wait for the technician to call us, there is no guarantee coming today. And i find out when the technician come, i will pay call out fee $80 and then every ten minutes the charge goes up plus the parts if any. If the unit can't fixed i will still pay the call out fee. That just a rip off, that's definitely not a after sell service. The staff are all rude and not helpful. They were playing game. One said i am only from the spare part department, i have to talk to the servicemen, when i talk to the service, they can't do anything, i have to wait the technician, but where is the technician, i have to talk to the reception lady and finally i have to cancel the service. I Don't want the technician come when we not at home, and then they leave a bill said i have to pay the call out fee. That is the worst company i have ever used. Don't risk it, go to find other brand like we did. We go in order it, they come 2 hours later, finish the job within one hour. And the after sell service they said it is same day service. With the RHEEM nightmare, we the whole family have no hot water in Thursday, friday, saturday, sunday, monday and still not sure which day we will have it. No body care about it, pool quality(last only 3year some, pool service, rude staff, they just laughed at you.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

I called a service technician. He blamed it on the gas system. He also said I'd be up for the call-out fee if they find no fault. I thought I was good as everything indicated a problem on their side of things. They came out, guy put his hand under the tap confortably. Opened the unit and changed a few settings, then couldn't hold his hand under the tap. Then said that the gas pressure was not set by the installer and I had to pay the call-out fee. ingle thing when they installed it. Bad service, bad product. The technicial said he would never install a similar unit if he had the choice, good to see he wouldn't endorse his own product. To solve the issue with warm showers, we've had to turn the hotness up a few notches. We have slightly hotter showers, as they say it's a flaw in the design, it only works properly when there is sufficient flow. If you're taps at set at middle, there isn't enough hot water travelling through the system to make it work continuously. Turn the mixer slightly hotter and you won't have the problems with intermittent hot showers, but you will find it unconfortable at first. I'm still trying to get used to the hotter showers, while the kids delicate skin are complaining continuously. I liked the TV commercial Like others, it does not live up to expectations. Service people were rude, and unit doesn't work well with mixer taps.2 comments

We built with Orbit Homes and they have "intelligently" used Rheem 20 for our 5 bedrooms new home. We've been staying in this new home for 2 months now, I'm facing everything that all the reviews here have mentioned. Since Orbit Homes has been in the building industry for more than 30 years in Victoria, I thought they will know what works and what doesn't, well, I was wrong. Bad
Not a good advert for Rheem, promised the world gave me an atlas with my Integrity 26, integrity is not in it.
Only the space taken up by the wall mounted unit & the hypothesis of instantaneous hot water.
The delivery of hot water is intermittent to many outlets & sometimes exceedingly slow to the better ones. Our plumber in his wisdom, removed the aerators/restrictors from two of our outlets in the hope that the system will respond more promptly. All that did was to cause a mess when the high pressure water hits the sink & basin!! The fact the delivery is anything but instantaneous(allowing of course for the passage of the cold water in the system). What to do??

Terrible
Steer clear of this product which says it is factory set to 50 degrees C but on contacting Rheem they admit that this apparently is really only 48 degrees C at the device and certainly not at the tap!! This is misleading. But this pales into obscurity compared with the nonsense of State bureaucratic laws insisting everyone MUST have tempering devices fitted maxing out at 50 degrees C. This will largely ensure that gastro and other such bugs will debilitate and cause deaths far in excess of the impact of hot water scalding. The latter phenomenon...Read more
is, in any case, probably due in large measure to individual stupidity more than systemic problems with hot water being at 60-66 degrees so that it will do the job needed! As we all know, you cannot mandate commonsense! Well it does produce buckets of lukewarm water consistently So far, after 6 weeks in a brand new house, it seems passable for a warm shower in the bathrooms. BUT it is totally inadequate for the kitchen and other heavy duty tasks (e.g. washing floors)as the MAXIMUM temperature AT THE TAP we can get is only 43-45 degrees C which is totally ineffective to kill germs or wash anything greasy or oily. Consequently, we have to boil an electic kettle for washing dishes and cleaning floors. If the aim of of the product is to reduce scalding of small children and others, then the fact that we have to boil water and transfer it to sinks/buckets must increase the risk of scalding exponentially.1 comment
