Heaters Buying Guide
Our buying guide will explain which type of heater would suit you most, how much you can expect to pay for one, and which features are worth looking out for.

Not fit for purpose
I spoke to Rennai about the requirements for a heater and was advised that an Avenger 25 would be the best model. I used it twice on cold nights on the weekend. Today I noticed that altering the temperature setting to 18 degs doesn't turn the heater off as the room temperature is shown at 24 degs. I called the tech support who after some bafflement told me that the Avenger 25 doesn't have a temperature control and the unit needs to be turned off and on manually to control the temperature. He said I should have bought an Avenger 25 plus! What do I do now as I'm not always in the room to turn it on and off?
Purchased in June 2021 at Harvey Norman Retail Stores - Appliances.

Looove this heater
What a workhorse, I just love this heater. Yes it wasn't cheap, as gas heaters arnt, however it does a great job.
It heats our open plan house downstairs well and even the upstairs gets warmer, and it works fast. I love the kids lock on it. I like the idea of the timer settings but haven't used them. So handy to have a remote, but lost it- damn! All in all this has been a great investment that I expect to have for many years.

Thanks for the review Kez. it's great to hear the heater has fit into your home so well. You can get replacement remotes for the heater, this can be ordered at any plumbing supply company that stocks Rinnai products,

Reliable, economical.
We have had this model in our lounge/family room for several years and it just keeps on working perfectly!
Every winter we just turn it on and enjoy quiet heating with accurate heat sensing.
Safe for families with young ones.
Easy to clean the smooth surface. I just vacuum clean the back filters once or twice a year.

Cost Effective heater
With rising costs to electivity and gas - finding a cost effective heater was essential. This has been an excellent buy as it is cheap to run and heats up the entire floor of my house. Buy Rinnai - it is simply the best brand in heaters and this is the best heater I have ever bought.

Warmth, without overheating
Finally bought a gas heater, as the bayonet was put in when the house was built ten years ago. It is used to take the chill off in the evenings, very effectively. We turn it off ten minutes before retiring to bed, and the fan goes off fairly soon, before we go upstairs.

Just what I needed
Pumps out excellent heat and is so easy to use. Ultra quiet. Even though it is the un flued model it does not make the house smell at all. Warms the entire house and the economy function is awesome. Small condensation on some windows but I think you would get that from any gas heater.

Most effective heater ever!
We bought this heater 2nd hand in Feb 2017 (preparation for Winter) based on a friend's experience, it was 18 months old. It was clean and had been serviced. We are in Auckland and so far have used it this Autumn and are looking forward to Winter now.
Almost Instant heat, quiet powerful fan, heats a large semi-open area consisting of lounge/family/kitchen/dining in our home. It heats this area from 10/14 centigrade to 20 in about 15 minutes. Love it, recommend it. One of the best heating purchases we have ever made.

Awesome heater
Very happy. It easily heats 161sq . Live in a coastal area but we have it set on 22 but often have to turn it down. We utilise the economy mode and timer operations. So nice to wake up to a warm house. Would recommend it to anyone wanting quality heating.

Great Heater
I have had this gas heater for 5 years now and haven't had a single problem with it. I have a one bedroom split level apartment of 90 square meters and it heats the entire apartment up well. During winter I would have the heater on most days for about 7 to 8 hours. The cost to the gas bill increases about $150 over winter (4 months). Its not too big so isn't a eye sore. It doesn't give off a gas smell like some other heaters. I extremely happy with the Rinnai 25 and not disappointed I spent a bit more money for a better heater.

Can't regulate temperature
I'm very happy with my Avenger 25 NG, but I can't regulate the temperature. I currently have the setpoint at 21 degrees this morning, but the heater has continued to shoot up to 25 degrees and it is unbearably warm. Is this meant to be thermostatically controlled? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for the question Knights Fan, the Avenger 25 heater is not thermostatically controlled so will not shut down when the temperature set is reached, this is a feature on the Avenger 25 plus.
Well I didn't ask enough questions of the salesperson, nor did they highlight this important fact. Can the controller be retrofitted?

with you and suggest a service call if required. With any unflued product there will be an amount of combustion product that will enter the room (which in a flued heater, is drawn out and expelled outside). The room must always be well ventilated to ensure this product can be dispersed.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Impressive
We bought this heater 10 days ago. It is ridiculosly easy to install, easy to operate and understand, works fast (which is a delight at 4am when feeding baby), we are heating an open space of 70sq meters and it does the job effortlessly (I was sceptical). However, we live in Quakers Hill which could make a difference to someone in Oberon for instance. It is a modern design, very pleasing on the eye, not bulky but quite compact for what it does. Light in weight and the three metre hose makes it easy to manouver around if needed. The only reason I give it a 4 star is the fact that we are still to see the gas bill and find out if it is economical enough to be a five star product.

Perfect addition!
Heating great & 2 timers is a welcomed feature. Heats a large open area and makes a huge difference. Would be 5* if it regulated the room temperature, the control panel seems to heat beyond the required temperature setting which is a little frustrating. Best we would find very happy!

Great product that does its job well
This products warns up the house in no time and seems to do it with ease. We are heating around 65MSQ and it works well. We have noticed the slightest of smells but nothing that has bothered us too much.
Happy to recommend this product to people with a large area to heat.

Questions & Answers
Hosein Amiriasked
Hi. I have this heater for two years. But recently, when it's lit, there is a bad smell of smoke. And its light and red light is red. Any ideas?
1 answer
I am hoping the Rinnai rep picks up on this and asks you for more detailed info. I do not like to give out guidance when their could be a serious/dangerous fault involved. The red LED might be its normal operating light that goes from green to red when it is fully running. The smoke smell is the one that concerns me most. Sometimes you might get a slight hint of a smell that usually indicates lack of ventilation as it is an unflued heater. If its more a burn/electrical smell then it might time to get a pro to physically take a look.

What is the difference between a Rinnai 25 Avenger TR and the Rinnai Avenger Plus?
2 answers
Rinnai A.Rinnai
Thanks for the question Al S, the Avenger 25 Plus has an added electrical element which adds another 2kw of power to the unit, great for a quick heating boost. The plus also offers thermostatic temperature control so you can set the temperature and the unit will turn off when the temperature is reached. For more information on the heater to best suit your need please check our website or our customer care centre.
Sorry for the delayed reply as I do not check my email as often as I should. I was also hoping Rinnai would step up and they did. One thing I did notice is their site covers mostly their top models which makes sense. I believe the Avenger plus is their top of the line for "portables" and the recommended heating area is on their site. For other later models not covered on the Rinnai site, try sites such as Bing Lee and Goodguys as they are still listing some specs for the smaller Avengers and other Rinnai heaters. I could be mistaken but I do believe the regular Avengers has an electronic thermostatic control as well.

Hi, I have had my gas heater for 3 years, bought it brand new. A couple months ago I had the unit serviced. Since then, everytime the heater is turned off after use, a strong gas smell is noticed for approx a minute after. Before it was serviced, I never smelt this gas smell after using it. Curious to know if this is a common thing and whether I should worry about it being dangerous to my family?
