My mums heater turns off after about 5 min, i have cleaned the bottom filter screen which wasn’t dirty but still occurs. The heater was brought on the 20/8/20 and mum said it happened shortly after installation and didn’t use it after last recent winter due to being afraid something might happen
Any suggestions??
Jamie

Recently when I have all 4 heating lamps on within 5 minutes the lamps turn off by themselves. This has happened at least the last 4,5 times. I have noticed if I only have it it on low ( 1 or 2 heat lamps its okay ) I have cleaned the filter but I am scared as a single mum doesn't know much about gas heaters will it explode or was it because the filter was cleaned. I only moved into this rental 6 months ago so this is my 1st winter using the Rinnai Spectrum 28 gas heater.
Not sure I can be much help but I don't normally run mine with four heat settings, two usually plenty. Just ran it with all four to see if it's an inbuilt thermostat that cuts in, still going flat out. I would suggest you ring Rinnai or get it serviced...no guessing how long it's been since a service and what condition its in. I wouldn't mess around with it please get it checked. Jen
Hi Domy C,
Thanks for the question. There could be a number of reasons the heater is shutting off as you describe. Given you do not know the service history of the unit we would recommend a service call to inspect and diagnose the issue with the heater.
Thanks

Is there any way to NOT have the fan on while using the heater? I just received my electricity bill for the first time since I've had this new Spectrum 28, and it was through the roof. Many thanks.
I dont believe you can run the heater without the fan going. You need it to push the heat into the room otherwise the heat won't disperse. You would need to stand in front of the heater to feel any warmth. Fan is automatic. I wouldn't have thought the fan would generate too much electricity. Hope this helps.
Hi Lucy, the fan on the Spectrum heater is automatic and cannot be switched off, it operates to both circulate the warm air and as a safety device to ensure the heater does not overheat. Power consumption is minimal with a maximum at initial start up (less than 2 seconds) 80watts. Normal 35-40watts.
Thanks

Can this be used to replace a Vulcan heater? Does it use the same space? Also, who does the installation? Rinnai or do you have to check your local paper?
Thank you.
Yes we removed a very Old Vulcan heater with glass panel front, great fit with the New Rinnai.
Brilliant Fit
Thanks for question Nektarios. The specifications for the Rinnai heaters are available on the Rinnai Australia website here:

Installation will need to be organised through your own licensed gas plumber.
Thanks

My Spectrum 28 inbuilt 1st bar lights and stays on but when I press the 2nd button the bar lights but goes out when I release the button. The 1st bar with the fan on low stays on but I can't get the 2nd bar to stay on.
Thank you Peter for your enquiry Has the heater been serviced recently? We do recommend with any gas heater that they are cleaned and serviced every 2 years to ensure optimum safety and performance. A booking can be made online here:

Thanks for your reply.
It's working ok now.
I haven't used it for a long time so if I have any further problems I'll have it serviced.
Regards from Peter.
Rinnia, for some reason my Spectrum 28 keeps cutting out? It does a great job while running but getting harder to start and stay lit. Any advice?

Why is new fan still very weak in spreading the heat?? Still uses a lot of gas for not much heat!!
Hi John, the fan is automatic. When you have one bar on its goes on low. Two and three bars it goes on high. Couple of thoughts are your vents clean (mine get lots of dust in them - from my two dogs) I clean mine at least once a week and the other thought is have you got the electricity turn on that runs the fans (several times I have had my switch turned off by thoughtful household trying to save electricity). Yours might be hard wired so should not be any issue, mine attaches to a wall socket. Other than that I would suggest you contact Rinnai for help. Jen
The unit was cleaned by a contractor, then cut out all the time. Before this the heat did not throw out so had to stand on heater even on three. New fan installed recently, still have to stand on heater to get heat as fan on 1,2,3 is still just faint. now it cuts out the same as it did with the old fan. damn useless fans this brand.
when is Rinnai going to reply????
What is the energy rating please. Is it economical to run in a very cold climate like Ballarat
It only has 2 stars but i havnt noticed any change in my gas account since changing my vulcan. Heats the house adequately..if you block off draughts, pull curtains. I usuall run it one to take the chill off and on three if its really cold..Adelaide. Hope this helps.
Thanks for the question Anne, the Spectrum heater has an energy rating of 2.1 stars. The economy of the heater will depend on a number of factors, including the size of the room being heated, insulation etc. Information for the heater can be found here"

We also have a heater selector on the Rinnai Australia website where you can enter details of the area to be heated and the best heater will be recommended,
