Had my smeg for a few months and it’s been great up until recently. Coffee tastes burnt, and find the coffee ground has exploded up into the group head which makes a huge mess, but It’s pouring out of the filter fine. It does seem quite hot ?
I have tried different levels of tamping, and it’s been descaled. Could it be the coffee ground level? -but It’s never been a problem previously, I have it on coarse. Or maybe too hot ? - but how would I adjust that?
Not sure why it has all of a sudden started doing this.
Think I have figured out the problem after some research.. I might have previously changed the temp setting without realising while I was trying to figure out the decale mode. I will change the temp and try again..
Got my machine this week followed all set up instructions and working lovely but after frothing milk and turning steam lever back up the one cup and two cup lights flash. They go off when I cool down the boiler and returns to ready. Is this normal? Do I cool the boiler down after every time I steam milk? Nervous to leave it to see if the lights stop flashing after several minutes!
Hi Nat,
Thanks for your enquiry. You only need to cool down the boiler if you want to make additional coffees after steaming the milk. The lights will stop flashing when the boiler cools down.

Machine won’t descale as per you tube, have done this previously but now won’t work ??? Any suggestions please ?
My 14g coffee basket is blocked. I know this because water will flow through the 7g basket, but not through my 14g basket even when empty. How can I unblock it? What products, genuine or not, will fit the handle to replace it? Thanks :)
Soak the basket overnight in a small bowl of water with lots of bicarb of soda. It's blocked from a build up of oils, coffee and possibly scale.
Thanks Ang, I'll give that a go. Interestingly I boiled it pretty hard in 1/2 vinegar 1/2 water and no luck, so I'll try your suggestion.
did this work...? I have soaked mine for days in water without any success. I'll give bicarb a go now
I am having the exact same problem. I can only seem to find replacement basket at over $100 !!!
Hi I’m thinking of buying the Smeg coffee machine . All I really want to know will it make a flat white as you get in Costa or Nero ?
Hi
I just bought it a few days ago. Was wondering the longer I hold down the more coffee I get? As in stronger taste and caffine? What would be the recommended time? 25-30?
Hi I have had my machine for 3 months it was making the perfect lattes until recently .
The steam pressure seams to have changed and it is not frothing the milk properly . The milk gets hot too quickly and I end up with no froth at all.
I have cleaned and checked the nozzle for any
blockage but it seems fine. Had this happened to anyone else ? I have t changed anything on the machine or my milk it just stopped frothing properly all of a sudden .
I can't reset the clock after a power cut. It flashes 12.00 and the lever up and down has no effect.
BEST DESCALER TO USE?
I use Breville Eco Coffee Residue cleaning tabs from Harvey Norman. I crack one tablet into a few pieces and let it dissolve. Must be good as I've used them for several years now with good results. Us...

Hi Marcia,
Thanks for your enquiry. At the end of the rinse cycle, press and hold the steam button until all the water is purged from the machine. This will make the orange light go out.

It has happened again
Do I pull the leaver down to release the steam when I hold the steam button
HI Marcia,
No, it's not necessary as it only pumping water through the system. When you descale it does recommend you close the steam spout and direct the water out of the coffee filter.

The water is leaking from the bottom of the machine and no longer brews espresso after several unsuccessful brews.

how do i make a really strong cup of coffee
Hi Aine R.,
To make a strong cup of coffee use the 2 cup filter basket. The strength of the coffee will also depend on the type of blend and roast of the coffee.

I have a new smeg expresso coffee machine =it’s 3 weeks old and the orange light keeps flashing in steam button I descaled it 2 but light stin on can u help me as to why it’s still on why would it need descaling after 3 weeks any annoying?
Hello, my smeg coffee machine is steaming through the boiler after it has finished dispensing coffee. The steam builds up and then makes a whistling sound. When I turn and release the filter holder from the boiler to empty the used coffee grounds, the built up steam escapes with a loud PFFFFT! and the coffee grounds explode out a little way. Hmm.. What’s going on?
Thanks, chrissie
Hi Chrissie S,
Thanks for your enquiry. Please check that the coffee is not too finely ground as this may affect the pressure built up in the portafilter.

Hello,
I have descaled the machine as the orange light was flashing - I descaled and then did another 4 or 5 rinses as the orange just won't stop flashing.
Please help, I don't know how to get the orange light stop flashing!!!
Tried the trusty turn it off and on again trick?
Hehe yes multiple times. The pesky orange light continues to flash!
Dear Emily,
When you do a rinse cycle and the machine stops once the tank is empty, please the steam button again to purge any remaining water from the system. The orange light will switch off.
