Brand new coffee machine doesn't seem to be working at all, have followed all the instructions in the booklet on how to set up but it doesnt seem to be pulling the water from the reservoir (yes I have removed the plug) and the lights wont stop flashing on the front

Hello Roisin,
It sounds like you have done everything right, the lights are supposed to flash like that each time you turn it on until it is ready and the water is at the correct temperature. Then the flashing lights stop and now it is ready for you to start. Can I ask if you have given the machine time to heat and stop flashing?

Roisin
Roisin

I think I am, yes. Typically how long does it take for the lights to then stop flashing?

Sunbeam
Customer CareSunbeam

A full tank usually takes a minute to heat up and for the lights to stop flashing. If it's much more than that please take it back to your retailer for a replacement.

Hi, we have had our coffee machine ( EM5000) since last year but in the last couple of months is started dripping profusely from the brew head. As soon as the machine is turned on water drips non stop from the brew head. We can still make coffee successfully the only other problem we have is the level of steamed milk dispensed can vary greatly from cup to cup. Is there something we can do ??
Thank you

Hello Jill R.
Sorry to hear that your machine has become inconsistent in its coffee. Could I ask when you purchased it last year?

Jill R.

It was purchased on the 26th of April I think. It's been going great until the leaking started about a month or two ago

Yeah this seems like a common problem, one which cleaning doesn't seem to fix even with proper descaling. The steamer on mine eventually stopped working altogether. Just nothing comes through.

Any advice on which pre-ground store bought coffee works best in the EM5000?
I used a packet of ground coffee from woolies and found the grind was far too fine. I dont have a grinder so need to buy pre-ground coffee.
Thanks

Hello BN9BN,
We don't have a preference to one brand over another, given that each person likes their coffee to be a certain taste. What we can advice on is that you use coffee ground for espresso and to ensure you are not over filling the filter head. The coffee should be 3mm below top of filter after tamping. Follow this guide to get the perfect fill and espresso (pg. 10): https://www.sunbeam.com.au/Root/Specifications/InstructionBooklet/EM5000_ib_2.pdf.pdf

Hi, I have the same problem except my machine doesnt flash. Check that the middle screw at the bottom of the porta filter hasn't come undone ? Ours was missing and we were stuck with a machine that just drips coffee.

Have you tried to change the cup?

Arham M.

there doesn't appear to by any screw under my portafilter and yes I've tried using the other cup. through process of elimination, I believe the problem is in within the machine.

Hi I purchased a Sunbeam Cafe Barista EM5000 & have been over the moon happy with its performance until recently. My last few cups of coffee there has been no froth just flat milk. Any suggestions would be appreciated

Hi Debbie,

An obvious suggestion is to increase the froth level lever. You can also add extra/milk froth to a coffee by holding the cappuccino button for 3 seconds. Just press the cappuccino button one more time when you want this to stop.

I have just purchased one and it seems all round great but the coffee doesn't seem to taste very strong and i'm not sure what i'm doing wrong. We are buying beans and grinding them and have the froth level low? Can anyone help please.

Hi Pam A,
The only thing I can think of here is to maybe tamp the coffee a little harder. This should then make the drip a bit slower and the coffee stronger.

Hi DellaW,
Thank you for contacting Sunbeam. It can take a few attempts to get the water pumping through to prime. Please try it again. About 5 seconds in - you can lift the water tank out and replace it with force. This can awaken the valve connecting to the machine itself. Hope this helps. Kind Regards, Sunbeam

Why am I getting a lot of water build up in my coffee head? Why?

1 answer
Sunbeam
Customer C.Sunbeam

Hi Emily,
Thank you for contacting Sunbeam. There will always be a water 'purge' after each shot/extract. It can also increase if the grind is too fine or if the gap from the level of the coffee to the lip of the basket is too great. We recommend the texture of coffee be like castor sugar to sand grain. and the gap be 4mm. Hope this helps.
Kind regards, Sunbeam

Yeah these things seem to last until the warranty is about up then stop frothing. Descaling regularly doesn't help.
