The dial on my tm31 seems to be stuck I'm unable to turn it on. I used it about 30 mins ago and all was good. I've just gone to use it again after it has been washed but the dial button won't move. Any ideas?

I have just inherited a TM31, and have pressed the Varoma button to get the higher temp. It flashes and then the light turns off after about 1 minute. It is not heating up at all. What am I doing wrong? Thanks :)
1 answer
When you use the Varoma setting you need to select a time on the timer, otherwise it won't work. I think this is a safety feature, so that you don't end up cooking something on the Varoma setting (very high temps) for an indefinite amount of time. I'm not sure if this will help you, but I thought it was worth mentioning.

What to do if you for got to put blade in before adding liquids?
1 answer
Hi Lyn,
The short answer is: NEVER (EVER, UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCE) forget to insert and lock the mixing knife in the bowl before adding liquids, or any operation really. That could lead to VERY SERIOUS damage, which may be even beyond any chance for repair. I exhort you and all newcomers to read the User Manual, particularly the Warning & Precaution Section, and follow it TO THE LETTER because the Thermomix is not a toy, and the appliance can't be blamed if improperly used/handled.
I have witnessed a couple of this type of accidents (through a couple of acquaintances of mine) and Vorwerk, quite fittingly, won't cover any cost for repair.

I have been out of the country for several months and returned to use my Thermomix 31 and it will not even turn on what should I do?

Check the fuse in the Thermomix plug then check that the plug socket itself has not blown a fuse. If the electrical elements seem ok, call your local Thermomix Advisor or Thermomix Head Office who will be able to help.
I have found Thermomix Office very helpful with any questions their number is 1800 004 838 from 8.30 am to 5 pm.
how does one change a fuse in the plug?

I just inherited a used machine. When recipe says Speed 0-7, what does it mean? Also does V stand for the Varoma button?
3 answers
yes v is for Varoma
0-7 I can only guess means speed 7?
I would say that the speed 0 - 7 would mean increasing the speed slowly up to 7. V would stand for Varoma. What model do you have? Good luck and happy cooking.
Thank you. My machine is TM31. Have used it twice so far and still experimenting.

I read on the Internet that a Halls Head mother was using the TM31 model when it exploded causing her to need extensive hospital treatment for second degree burns. Is this the same model that was recalled because it needs the sealing ring replaced? Or should I update to the newer TM5 model just to be on the safe side?
3 answers
I would say this would be a question you should ask Thermomix directly as I am just a proud thermomix owner and personally haven't had any problems with my TM5. Hope they can help you.
Might be best to ask the manufacturer
I agree with the above, however I think Thermomix AU may be tight lipped about it. In every case (which the owners have openly discussed this issue), they have not been using the machine properly. That is, not using the correct seal (green seal), or turning machine off and opening lid before the blades and food inside has stopped spinning. Would you open the washing machine and grab your clothes out if it was still spinning.

I have TM31 which I purchased in 2012. its fab gets used daily and today after I make the kids smoothie I noticed that a meal moth ( they were in a bag of bulk GF flour we bought, we had a week of finding them in the cupbord and binned everything, froze all our nits and cleaned every container and shelf ) has somehow laid eggs in the digital display window, and a maggot is all wrapped up in a caccoon by tea time! I have no idea how it got in there, and more over how do I get it out?
The sales person for our machine no longer sells thermomix and we don't have a liason...
HELP!
1 answer
Contact Thermomix via their website at https://www.thermomix.com.au/how-to-purchase/contact-us/ and tick the box that you have a service enquiry and someone will be in contact with you to book it in for a service. Alternatively give them a call on 08 9276 6966 to organise. Hope that helps!
Janasked
How much is tm31?
2 answers
Sorry, I don't know, they are now a superceded model. You may find some on ebay.
Hi Jan - The TM31 is now only available on the second hand market. Prices vary so you need to look around, but because of the new model there are lots of TM31s on the market as many upgraded. Personally I like the one I have. Thermomix currently have an offer on a second bowl and blade set to go with the TM31 or you can purchase the new model. Love mine to bits and use it most days. Would recommend you contact Thermomix for a consultant in your area and if you don't want to hold a demo of your own, ask them to tie you into one they are going to do. I went to three and my husband to one before we decided and I have just ordered the second bowl and blade set.
Kylie Rollingsasked
Am thinking about getting a second hand tm31 off gumtree. What would I need to look for to make sure it work properly?
2 answers
Hi Kylie, I'd ask the seller to demonstrate cooking something like the stock paste so you can see it at high speeds and heating, that would bring up any concerns. Ensure the bowl and blade are intact and that it has all parts
Most definitely !!! you need to know it's in good working order, especially as this is an earlier model.
Denty2asked
What is the difference between the TM31 and the TM5? I realise the 31 is discontinued but what are the advantages of spending more on the newer model when you can get one secondhand for less? Many thanks
3 answers
I did not own the prior model so cannot comment. Maybe someone else can answer? When I bought mine, I looked for a TM31 but people were asking such outrageous prices for them that it was going to cost me approximately $300 more (I got mine at the introductory price offer) to buy a new one.
I have no idea.
Maybe my problems with the TM5 were just a one-off fault ???
If it was a just a badly fitted seal, well ok, but if it's design fault then I'm not impressed.
They have said that they would have it fixed under warranty, but I have
yet to see how it goes.
regards,
mark.
The TM5 is 10% larger in the bowl and varoma, and is now computerised, whereas the TM31 is manual operation. The TM5 is also a bit quieter, and more stable when it comes to using the knead function. I has built in recipes and guided recipes via chips which attach to the side. I have both models, and have no intention of selling my TM31, however, I do think the TM5 is well worth the extra money over a second hand TM31.

I need a new blender and was thinking to get an optimum 9400 as it can do nuts, ice and all off that but can a thermo mixer do the same?
5 answers
It can yes as my daughters do all that, i have a Omniblend V to do all this paid 329,00 for it and does the job :)
Thank you
Yes, the Thermomix functions very well as a blender. It also can mill rice into flour, sugar into caster sugar and icing sugar. This is however just one of its many functions which also include cooking, steaming, emulsifying, whipping and kneading. It is a lot more expensive than a blender. Despite the cost, I have to admit it is a great machine. I was disappointed with the company for releasing a new model without warning to those of us who recently purchased the older model but the company is taking some steps to address this.

Hi all
I am planning to buy thermomix.
1. whom to contact to buy.
2. can it crush ice to make smoothie or crushed ice coke etc
4 answers
It can crush ice & very likely ice coke (I haven't tried). I have crushed ice cubes made from coconut milk. If you google Thermomix Australia, go to Shop and choose Cooking Classes. You can go to a local class first to see one in action & taste test. Speak to the people put the class on.
Thanks a lot
What if i go for optimum 9400. is it as good as thermomix or thermochef?

I had a lot of kitchen ware or I can said its complete. I am considering to buy this TM 31 . So do I need or not need. Then what about my old kitchen appliance that I have?
1 answer
Keep your juicer, this machine does NOT juice (as they will tell you it does), keep your slow cooker, it does not slow cook. Keep your food processor, it does not grate (a food processor will grate your food). Keep your frypans & wok so you can brown your meat at the TM31 will boil your meat, not brown it. Basically, if you have saucepans & a food processor, you will achieve much better results than you will with a TM31. It is also VERY noisy! I regret getting rid of my rice cooker because even cooking rice in the TM31 is too loud :( disappointed!
I want oneasked
Does the thermomix do what a food processor does ?
5 answers
Yes. That and more
Not exactly.
It won't cut slices of cucumber/carrot/any other veg.
Save yourself some money and buy a Thermochef instead, and with the savings you can get yourself a good food processor and still have money left over.
The Thermochef does everything that the Thermomix does
It doesn't slice it chops it can grate hard cheeses and you can also make flour, icing sugar out of raw sugar, the thermochef I have used will not cope with pressure that the thermomix will you can push this one beyond its limits where in testing I have seen thermochef go kaput - this however is not a food processing - you can make mince out of chicken fillet or rump steak but you cannot slice you can grate but you can't slice you can steam - high temperatures are no problem either you dont ever have to be considerate with the thermochef you do on the processing side great but on the other side I wouldn't be that confident I don't work for either but I have tested both

Can any one tell me why one would spent 1900 on a TM when for the same price I could have 8 Avancer tThermo Cooks cooking 8 times as much food. ( still yet to find a bad review on the AvancerThermo Cook)
1 answer
You cant. People (usually retiree women) buy these as almost a status symbol. "Look at my TM", "My TM is amazing, you should get one" etc etc plus they get all swept up it the sales rep's demo, that emotion takes over completely. Impulse but if ever there was one. It works (husband and I got given one) but doesn't do $2000 worth of cooking. For that, I'd want it to make me coffee and change nappies.

I have owned a thermomix for 3 years. Lately the machine leaks whenever I use liquid or when I wash it using the motor. Do you think I should change the rubber ring and where can I get one? I live in Western Australia.
Iris
2 answers
Sounds like it could be the rubber - it erodes over time, especially when washed in too hot water.
Whoever sold you the 'mix should be able to get you in touch with spare parts / replacements.
the other alternative is to get on their website, Thermomix Australia and contact them.

Hi, I have just made the chocolate mousse receipe from the thermomix book. I have followed it exactly, however the mixture did not thicken at all, and was very runny. Why would the mixture not thicken? I tried mixing it for longer, but nothing happened. Thank you in advance Erica

HI Erica, if you have facebook you can join the Thermobexta or the Thermostruck groups they are excellent in helping you with issues with cooking etc.
mahdeenasked
How easy is it to clean? Can the parts go in the dishwasher?
3 answers
Mahdeen - lovely to hear from you BUT - I haven't & will not purchase one of these overpriced products. $2000.00 for a product that does no more than most appliances in your kitchen !?! Also with a guarantee of only 2 years when the company proudly states that this appliance will give you a lifetime of use - don't think so. Read the reviews before spending your hard earned money.
The company originally stated the bowl, blades and other attachments are dishwasher safe, but now it is generally accepted that the constant use of corrosive dishwasher powders can cause corrosion of the probes on the bottom of the bowl. I find it is a breeze to clean with the brush available from the website and one of those little baby teat brushes for around the blades.
I keep reading the comment that the product should have a longer warranty, yet most cars, worth sometimes up to 20 times more than a thermomix are lucky to have a 3-5 year warranty. Don't let the complainers sway you, the Thermomix is worth every cent
Still using it - 2 years later ? Doubt it & these overpriced appliances are popping up everywhere for sale.
