Hi I'm looking to change the hose setup to all quick connect, just wondering what size regulator they use?
Cheers
1 answer
Weber Barbecues A.Weber
Hi Tommy, can I ask what the purpose is for you wanting to use this type of fitting? We don't recommend any alteration or addition to the gas manifolds of our barbecues as they have been tested and approved by the Australian Gas Authority as they are- with any addition or change, they become non-compliant. If you give us a bit more information about what you're trying to achieve, we can help you find a solution. Thanks!
Alecasked
Hi, will the smoker box set work on a babyQ Weber?
1 answer
Weber Barbecues A.Weber
Hi Alec. The Smoker Box set was designed to be used on the Q2000 series and above, not the Baby Q (Q1000) series. There isn't enough grill space with the convection tray, trivet and the smoker boxes, and they don't sit properly above the burners in the Baby Qs.
Tobyasked
Will a standard 4.5kg gas bottle fit my weber baby q with the supplied hose ?
3 answers
My Weber baby q1200 has a POL type connector type valve. The standard for most camping and bbq’s.
Make sure you buy the correct type of cylinder. The three main types in Australia are POL, 3/8 LH and Primus. It should say on the gas cylinder.
I bought the 2kg cylinder (3/8 LH type) because I find it lighter and less bulky to carry around. I had to buy the adaptor though ($12.99 at BFC) that changes the connector to POL type.
Weber Barbecues A.Weber
Hi Toby, yes. Your Baby Q comes with a hose that will suit from 4.5kg up to 9kg sized gas bottles. Thanks!
Hi Toby, yes the baby q will take 4.5 kg gas bottles through to the 9 kg gas bottle using the fittings supplied .
Leonieasked
Hi. I purchased a baby q in Australia to use in Bali. It appears that the gas connection here is smaller than athe attachment from the Weber. I am visiting the Ace Hardware who sell Weber’s here but wondered if they advise me to buy a new connecting hose from BBQ to gas bottle if this will be safe? Thank you.
3 answers
My understanding is the Weber Baby Q connection uses the Pol type connection type valve in Australia. There are 3 main types of gas cylinders/bottles in Australia.
The POL (majority), 3/8 LH (mostly 2kg and 3kgs size cylinders) and the Primus type.
You can buy the gas tank valve adaptors in camping shops like BFC or Anaconda to change the connector type from 3/8 LH or Primus to POL type for around $12.99.
It should also say the connection type on the gas cylinders before buying.
If you don’t want the adaptor then make sure it says POL type on the gas cylinder.

Hi Leonie, we can only advise in accordance to the Australian Gas Association guidelines that our barbecues have been tested against. The barbecues have not been approved or tested for use with other gas connections that are found outside of Australia, so we cannot give you an answer on which hose to use. If you'd like any more info, please contact us on 1300 301 290.
This unfortunately doesn't answer the question. In Australia, the gas connector standard for camping is 3/8 LH. Can the Weber Baby Q use this standard as it is purported to be a "portable bbq".
Malasked
I also need to put a longer lead on my baby q1000 but dont want to use too much force.I cant seem to see the answer to the previous persons same question. Is there any tricks to it?existing lead seems very tight. Its a brand new unit. Thanks

It will be a left hand thread on the connection so to loosen would be the opposite direction to normal so right hand down to loosen

Hi Mal, it can be a bit tricky, and you may need a wrench to take if off completely- can you call us on 1300 301 290 and we can run you through it. Thanks!
Jacky Casked

Robynasked
Hi, Can I connect a Weber Baby Q to natural gas? If so what attachment do I need?
1 answer
Weber Barbecues A.Weber
Hi Robyn, sorry no, you cannot use Natural Gas with the Baby Q barbecues as they are classed as a portable barbecue and therefore are not approved to be used with NG. If you need any further info, please contact us on 1300 301 290 or reply here. Thanks!
Danasked
What kind of gas bottle will I need to purchase?
1 answer
Weber Barbecues A.Weber
Hi Dan, you can use any gas bottle that is sized 4kg-9kg, as that is what is recommended for use with our barbecues. You can find these at most petrol stations and hardware stores. Cheers!
Paulasked
Hi, you’ve stated that 4.5kg is the minimum cylinder size. All the suppliers including bunnings stock 3.7kg which they say are equivalent to 4kg. Do I have to buy a 9kg or are the smalller ones OK?
2 answers
smaller ones are fine (4-4.5kg). If the hose fits it should work.
Weber Barbecues A.Weber
Hi Paul, a 4kg bottle will be fine, we just state that minimum size as this ensures you've got gas for a multitude of cooks, and there isn't much of a possibility of it running out mid-cook.
BobandValerie Wasked
I am replacing the hose an regulator with a gas hose with bayonet fitting gia camper trailer. Is the screwed fitting at the bbq end a left or right hand thread?
1 answer
Weber Barbecues A.Weber
Hi Bob/Valerie, when you screw the hose on, you turn to the right (clockwise) to tighten. At the other end, when connecting to a gas bottle, you turn to the left (anti-clockwise) to tighten. Hope that helps! Call us on 1300 301 290 if you need any further assistance.
ellyasked
I think the question of cylinder size for the baby q misses the point of having a baby Q a small portable BBQ with big ability the 4 kg option makes sense and is in relation to the BBQ size. The 9 kg is overkill and is best on at home BBQ. Any ideas?
1 answer
Weber Barbecues A.Weber
Hi Elly, you can use as small as a 4.5kg gas bottle with a Baby Q, up to a 9kg bottle. Any smaller than that and it wouldn't meet gas regulations for that barbecue. If you have any other queries, please let us know.
Kylie Pasked
Hi
Our Baby Q temperature seems to run too high despite being on the lowest setting.
Any tips?
Thank you
1 answer
Weber Barbecues A.Weber
Hi Kylie, thanks for getting in touch.
What temperature is your Q running at? We have some 'standard' temperatures that help us see if a Q is performing correctly:
- After 10 minutes of running on HIGH: Weber Baby Q - 220°C (428°F)
- After 10 minutes of running on LOW: Weber Baby Q - 165°C (329°F)
If your Q is performing differently to these temperatures, then it would be best to contact us directly on 1300 301 290 and we can help you from there.

Is it ok to use two half plates (to make a full plate) in the baby q?
1 answer
Weber Barbecues A.Weber
Hi Karen, thanks for getting in touch.
Using two hotplates on the Q would hinder the airflow needed to let the gas ventilate properly, as well as affect the convection-style cooking that makes the Q's perform at their best - we suggest you use one hotplate and one half-grill when cooking this way.
If you have any other questions, please let us know. Thanks!

Hi does the baby q stand fit the q?
1 answer
Weber Barbecues A.Weber
Hi Karen, thanks for getting in touch. If you're talking about this stand here: https://www.weberbbq.com.au/weber-accessories/q-portable-bbq-cart/?
It fits the Weber Baby Q (Q1000/Q1200) and Weber Q (Q2000/Q2200) models only.
Jeremy Sasked
Can I roast in Baby Q leaving the 1/2 solid plate in place?
1 answer
Weber Barbecues A.Weber
Hi Jeremy, thanks for your question.
Ideally, you would roast on the two grill sections, with a convection tray and trivet on top. This allows for optimal heat distribution throughout the Q, using the convection-style cooking that the barbecue is designed to produce.
Hope this helps. If you have any other questions, please let us know.
Huffasked
Hi what is the gas fitting called at the bbq?
Bought 2 new hoses they do not seal gas need to fit to caravan
1 answer
Weber Barbecues A.Weber
Hi Huff, thanks for your question. What you're talking about is the gas bayonet fitting; this is connected to the hose, regulator and valve. If you could call us on 1300 301 290 we can explain how you can fit it to a caravan. Thanks!
DavidRasked
When I connect I still have minor gas leakage. Is there supposed to be a washer at the end of the connection hose?
1 answer
Weber Barbecues A.Weber
Hi David, thanks for getting in touch.
There should be a little rubber 'o' ring at the end of your hose that connects to the gas cylinder. If this is missing, then please don't use your barbecue until this is rectified as there will not be a proper seal.
You cannot purchase the 'o' rings separately, and they are different from ones you would find at your local hardware store, so we will have to replace your hose for you. If you could please send us an email at [email protected] or call on 1300 301 290 with your serial number and if it's still covered by warranty, we will replace it free of charge.
Thanks.
Markasked
Hi, querying the requirement to fit 4.5kg to 9kg gas cylinder? I can only buy a 4kg or 8.5kg gas cylinder. I would prefer a few 4kg gas cylinder due weight and transport for caravan. Is there any issue with fitting a 4kg gas cylinder?
3 answers
Weber Barbecues A.Weber
Hi Mark, thanks for your question. Our recommendation is 4.5kg sized bottles to 9kg bottles; you can fit a 4kg bottle, you just won't get as many cooks from it and it's a less economical option (especially if you're travelling). A 9kg bottle should last you about 45 hours of cooking on a Baby Q, so it's definitely a more cost-effective choice.
We give a minimum requirement recommendation so you can avoid things like running out of gas mid-cook and having enough gas for the barbecue to run efficiently.
Hope that helps!
We are using 8.5kg gas cylinder and it is fine. We did not think of checking it before purchasing. If the connection of 4kg is same as 8.5kg, it should be fine. I wish i can upload photos here.
I use one because the smaller size is a little handier transporting. These Weber's are so gas efficient that the small price difference is nothing compared to the convenience of hauling the lighter bottle. One this, you have to be careful to get the correct fitting as the 4KG bottles are not all POL
Jay Kasked
Just purchased our new baby q to use with our caravan....without knowledge I purchased the one with out the temp gauge. Is there anywhere I can find a picture of the position of the dial to cook at 180 degrees? I've had so many fails I'm about to toss it in.
2 answers
Weber Barbecues A.Weber
Hi Jay, thanks for your question.
All of our recipes and guides are based on dial settings, rather than temperature, because there are a lot of variables that can impact a barbecues temperature and we couldn't 100% guarantee that 'this dial setting' will give you '180C'. Factors like the position of the barbecue, wind, gas levels, age of the barbecue and condition that the burner tube is in can all impact the heat.
https://www.weberbbq.com.au/weber-recipes/ - this is where all of our recipes are listed, and if you want some more specific tips, send us a message on our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/weberBBQAusNz/) and we can go through your specific scenario and get you comfortable with it.
Alternatively, you can give us a call on 1300 301 290. Thanks Jay.
I cook on lowest gas setting for roasting, mine seems to sit at about 160.
As the weber official pointed out this is subject to variables.
Lucky for you there are many better ways of determining temp using any of the brilliant external thermometers with temp probe.
I recently baked a perfect sponge and red velvet cake in baby q without fancy temp probes, just checked the temp with a digital thermo and left it to cook on lowest setting.
Dont give up, i havent had to clean my oven in years thanks to the q, very user friendly machines with or without hood thermometer.

I have just got a Weber baby q Q1000 as a birthday present. The fold open work surfaces are not included. Are these an optional extra?
2 answers
They are optional extras, worth getting, glass reinforced nylon i believe so more durable than they appear.
Stainless steel ones are available on ebay from a aftermarket producer.
Weber Barbecues A.Weber
Hi John, thanks for your question.
That's right; the Baby Q series does not come with the fold-out side tables, but they can be purchased as an accessory from your local Weber Specialist Dealer. You can find them here: https://www.webernz.co.nz/weber-accessories/baby-q-side-tables/
Thanks!
