During this process your home builder is there not just to carry out the actual construction, but to guide you through what could otherwise be a very high-stress undertaking. In 2022, ieatwords.com.au improved on our already industry-leading catalogue of home builder reviews by including more precise information from reviewers. We've used the data we gathered from the 11,000+ reviews we published in the last 12 months to give out our annual awards, so you can use real experience from real people who have been in the same position as you to inform your building decision in 2020.

Awards Selection
We have given awards for nation-wide builders, and awards for each state (except Northern Territory, due to lack of data). A company that was selected as a National winner was then excluded from receiving a 2nd award for any specific state. Some of the state-based winners are companies that operate solely in that state, while others may operate in many other states but performed particularly well in one.
In general we gave more weight to reviews by those who had completed their builds over those who were just starting out, and we also gave slightly more weight to reviews by those who had been living in their home for a longer period.
National Winner
Our overall #1 home builder in Australia for 2020 is G.J. Gardner Homes, who pick up their fourth consecutive award for being the best in the country. G.J. Gardner trended upwards, receiving an average rating of 4.84 out of 5 based on reviews from 2022 alone. Reviewers all around Australia praised the communication and service they received from their team, and felt like they were being kept informed of everything that was going on right from the start. Of course, the final product is what really matter, and customers were overwhelming thrilled with their new homes.

New South Wales
Better Built Homes are this year the recipient of their third running award for great performance in NSW. Better Built Homes only operate in NSW and received equally high praise both from new customers building for the first time, and experienced customers on their 2nd or 3rd build.

Victoria
When we looked at the reviews for home builders in Victoria, there were three candidates that all stood out as being equally deserving of recognition for the wonderful reviews they'd received in 2022. These companies are Kingsbridge Homes, Ridgewater Homes, and True Value Homes. Reviewers from Melbourne, other parts of Victoria, and even a few out-of-state customers all agree that if you want to build in "the Garden State" you'd be well served by selecting one of these home building companies.
Queensland
The two awards for Queensland both go to builders who also operate outside Queensland, but it was their teams in the sunshine state who performed the best and earned them this award. Clarendon Homes, operating out of Loganholme, and Hotondo Homes, who operate a string of offices from Townsville to Coomera, were the top two performing home builders in Queensland. Please note the ratings below represent only the scores from reviewers who built in Queensland, not reviewers building with these companies in other states where they also do business.
Western Australia
A big state with a lot of growth means a lot of opportunity for home builders, and a lot of choice for consumers. The two companies who took out top spots this year are Dale Alcock Homes South West and Webb & Brown-Neaves, who are both owned by the same parent company, ABN Group. Dale Alcock Homes South West operates as several sub-brands working out of the same space, Dale Alcock Home South West, Celebration Homes South West, and Homebuyers Centre South West. Each of these is purposed to cater to a different type of customer, such as a first-time builder compared to someone on their 2nd build. Webb & Brown-Neaves is intended to cater to those looking for bespoke luxury designs.
South Australia
The winner for SA is the Adelaide branch of national player Metricon, who recently moved to Parkside after previously operating out of Norwood. Metricon are big name in the Aussie building industry, and consistently one of the most-researched builders on ieatwords.com.au. While they also service NSW, QLD, and VIC, this year their best work was being done in SA.

Australian Capital Territory
The nation's capital may be missing the beaches that make Australia famous, but there's certainly no lack of quality construction companies available to make your dream home a reality. Burbank and McDonald Jones Homes both come highly recommended by our ACT reviewers if you think Canberra is the place to be! McDonald Jones build all over ACT and NSW, while Burbank also operate in NSW, QLD, SA and VIC.
Tasmania
Often thought of as quiet state for those who love nature, the reviewers of Tasmania have awarded Wilson Homes as the go-to team for prospective customers on the island state.
