Very early stages of our home build, just completed our colour selections and so far very happy with the staff, our choice in home and our colour selections. Having recently visited a display village and seeing what other homes are available, we were glad to have gone with MJH for the quality in the homes, but also the price.

We had spoken with a couple of builders in regard to a House & Land package however, after speaking with Xavier (MDJ Consultant) we were confident that MDJ were the team to make our dreams of a new home become reality. ote together and within a week he presented the design (with required options) which was under our estimated budget and with the addition of a MDJ Outdoor Kitchen BBQ (Free Inclusion). Xavier has been very response to our queries and answered swiftly, he also stipulated that although he will no longer be directly involved, he would be more than willing to answer or coordinate any issues we come across as we move forward through the build - go Xavier and thank you again. The next step was a planning meeting with Brett Chorley, the poor man was so sick on the day we had the meeting but to his credit he didn't call off or allow his sickness to interfere with the discussions. Brett explained the plans thoroughly and answered our questions clearly and in a language we as none builders understood. We look forward to dealing with Brett as we progress through the early stages and more importantly through the build. We then moved onto the colour selection/electrical process, a full day at the MDJ facility in Canberra - something we were very nervous about, although also excited. We were introduced to Niya who has a very calming demeanour and put us at ease straight from the start. Niya explained the process and how the day would pan out. Niya was very professional and guided us through the selection process from external choices to internal room by room, not only did Niya guide us but assisted us (with her keen eye for design and colour) with our choices, especially when we had some difficulty selecting matching/contrasting colours. We thought this process would be really difficult but with Niya's eye for detail and calming influence it was a breeze. Niya followed up by sending us the colour palates we had selected and offered further assistance if/when required - really enjoyable experience thanks to Niya. After these three stages and meeting Xavier, Brett and Niya we are even more confident that MDJ will deliver a spectacular home and we look forward to the build commencing. We're Glad We Chose You MDJ!
Our build was unusual, on a block of land in an older suburb, with some established trees on the block. Just entering our seventies, and one of us with low vision, we wanted to build a new home to enable us to 'age in place', so there were some special requirements such as wider doorways and no steps.

Quality building and transparent informative processes
From Sales consultation, to planning (design, colour and electrical selections) straight through to practical completion we have been kept informed and up to date on the progress and any potential issues.

Thoroughly recommend
Our build was very good right from the start, Karyn Keefe our coordinator was in contact before the build started and with right up to the completion. Brett our supervisor was very particular throughout the build. Any issues before and during the construction were addressed by Karyn and Brett and rectified promptly. We had minimal maintenance work after we moved in and they were sorted out by Grahame the Quality assurance inspector. The final cost was spot on to the estimated cost. All in all we are very happy with everything, thanks.

Colour Studio Appointments
We are in the process of pre construction stage .So recently we had our Colour Studio Appointments with Niya. And Brett is our Project Manager.
There are many things to choose from and selection process is really overwhelming. But Niya made the selections very easy - She described each and every aspect and also gave practical suggestions to choose the best which suits our requirements.
Also Brett was very informative on the aspects of Plan presentation and staying on top of all details.
Can't wait to see the final outcome of our new home project.

Dream Home- Dream Build
Our build with McDonald Jones was all that we expected. From the planning stages with our Project Coordinator Brett Chorley, to colour selections and then the build itself was an awesome experience. It is never going to be stress free building a house but our Site Supervisor Warren Sanderson made the process as smooth as possible for us. His communication was prompt and open, keeping us in the loop all the way through the process. do such as septic etc. The finish of the house itself was top notch with only a few minor things at PCI to be fixed, with most of the things we picked up having already put on the list or already booked in to be fixed. We had a few issues (on our end) with getting power connected but Warren was very accommodating and flexible with continuing the build and getting everything done prior to electricity being connected, with only a test of everything needed once this was done. The estimated cost was pretty close to total cost with any variations (up or down in cost) adequately explained in a prompt manner in a way that we understood. Would be build again? No as this is our forever home but if we did we would have no hesitation to build with McDonald Jones. How did your final cost compare to your estimated cost?1 comment

Excellent experience with MJH Canberra
My partner and I started our building journey in September 2017, we were wanting to build our first home and were definitely overwhelmed with the choices and the enormity of the decision! lusions at the time also gave them an edge over comparable builders. We paid our deposit with MJH in November 2017 and the process was always professional. From choosing our internal/external selections all the way through to planning approvals we enjoyed the process and felt that the MJH team did everything they could to make it straight forward and stress free as possible (there’s always going to be a little stress, especially when picking paint colours.) Once building commenced everything happened quickly. Our site supervisor Warren Sanderson was very clear in communicating his experience, how he liked to work, what we could expect from him and his expectations of us (aka not sneaking on to site!). We always felt like things were moving and Warren was very responsive if we had any questions and provided us with regular updates. We felt very confident in his ability to deliver a quality home and for us to be able to ask stupid questions too. Like all builds we had our issues (e.g. our land registration was delayed about three months) but most of these weren’t MJH related and where they were, issues were always communicated to us and resolved the best way possible. MJH asked us at the beginning what our expectations were of our build and we asked for clear communication and a quality build. As at the time of writing this review we feel like they’ve fulfilled our expectations.1 comment

So far so good - very exciting
I'm now nearing lock up on my new house and I have to say the process so far has been very rewarding. I was extremely nervous about building and MJH have made it a breeze. It has taken much longer than I expected but they have communicated every step of the way and council approvals were a challenge. My experience started with Xavier Player as my sales consultant who was amazing. He made redesign and consolidated tender a breeze. which are legislative so should be in the base house price), but this is common across all project builders. Xavier's architectural knowledge was really helpful with my planned redesigns, making them work for me and be cost effective. He is definitely on the house warming party list! Next was Brett and Niya from the Fyshwick office who have made the contract and selections process very enjoyable. I never thought I'd know so much about construction and fittings as I do now. Such a pleasure and both so willing to explain things in basic terms. Cameron my pre-contstruction supervisor was also really friendly and communicated with me every step of the way. I would suggest to MJH (and this is NOT Cameron's fault) that there were way to many unexpected site costs that could have been discussed during contract negotiations and built into the price. I have had a number of out of pocket expenses I didn't even know about (i.e. when the block was cleared there was more rock in the soil than expected - so then it was my responsibility to remove the soil. This was never discussed. Yes "if we hit rock" was discussed with regards to excavation - but that happened later). I'm now working with Warren as my construction supervisor and he is amazing. His communications are brilliant and his explanations wonderful. I look forward to finishing my journey with MJH.1 comment

Building a family home thanks to MJH!
My Mother and i undertook the project of a knock down rebuild for our family house.This is the first time we have done something like this and the people at MJH have been lovely. We first approached Xavier Player from Googong who helped us tremendously in the first stage which helped up select the lindeman as the perfect home to fit our lifestyle. We then met with Niya from the colour studio, she made this experience great. We left our appointment feeling confident and satisfied with our choices. Brett Chorely is our project manager and has been extremely helpful in our last stages of our pre construction. In the next month the knock down will commence and we are so excited to move to the next stage of the construction process.

Best Move ever
Renovate or Knock down and rebuild ? was our dilemma. After weighing everything out we went for Knock down and re-build. After looking at over 100 plans from all builders we kept going back to Martell one of MJH designs.So with the that plan under wing we headed to Canberra to the display homes and there we met Xavier Player. arted our journey by looking around for a builder. Lauryn Meredith was the consultant when we walked into a display home. She warmly greeted us and took us through the house, explaining the feature of the house and what we could do to tailor more to our needs. She introduced various products and offered to meet. She explained each step in the project to help us understand and anticipate what could be involved. To us, she was very professional and know her business well. When the project started, we had Curtis Valtonen as our project manager and supervisor to lay the slab. This is the foundation of the house. We were very nervous and thought anything could go wrong might go wrong. Every so often when we drove pass the site, we would see himself at the site monitoring the work and ensuring the quality of the slab and building framework. When the slab is laid, we wanted to get an independent evaluation done to quality check the slab and building frame because when our friends got their report done when they built their house with other builders, they had pages and pages of fault. Curtis said to us, MJH would undertake qualified inspections, you would be only wasting your money. Indeed, he was right! Our report was only a few page thin with conclusion “Well Built”. We could not believe our luck! Further, later when we moved in the house, we bought a slat pool table. When the professional pool technician was levelling our pool table, he was amazed how flat the house slab was! So Thank you Curtis Valtonen for making sure the top quality work! After that, the project entered into its next stage. We had Dean Thompson as our project manager/construction supervisor. We thought ‘oh, no, we want Curtis to continue’ as we did not know how Dean was like. Well, to our delight, Dean has also exceeded our expectation! He kept us well informed about the progress of the work. He was so understanding of our needs and genuinely had our interest and quality in his heart. He was very responsive to each of our request. Xavier helped us plan and design our new home and was able to envision what we wanted.
The build is currently underway and it is so far looking great!
The communication received so far is really good and the we receive pictures for the updates as they go.

Finally ready to build
My wife and I have been on a four year journey to secure a block of land and build a McDonald Jones home in Bungendore NSW. None of the delays have been McDonald Jones fault. We have nothing but praise for McDonald Jones Homes service to this point. Brett Chorley in particular has shown remarkable patience along with the rest of the Fyshwick ACT McDonald Jones team. Their friendly service and can do attitude has been one of the reasons we have been able to persist with this long drawn out process to the point of finally being able to start construction. We are looking forward to the next stage of our journey with McDonald Jones Homes and would highly recommend this company to any prospective home builder.
