I was excited for this service but regretted using it. The process is very cumbersome and manual. It’s inexcusable after 2-3 years of running.
1. They don’t consolidate packages unless it’s from the same merchant.
This is really useless because 90% of the time nobody would split order from the same merchant knowing full well they are going to pay per package.
This also means I ended up paying more than other package forwarder.
2. Custom declaration is very manual and cumbersome.
Here’s the process:
- you’re asked to manually enter the price paid per parcel in their website.
- once you entered the value, you can’t edit it...
Read more- after paying (no PayPal, just Visa / MasterCard), they then ask you to EMAIL the invoices. The email must include your full name and suit number. Have you heard of Upload button, auspost? Other package forwarder (ComGateway) i used usually takes a photo of the goods and invoice, I think they also prepopulate the value of goods. Most importantly, they consolidate packages regardless of the merchant, which is how it’s supposed to be. All in all you’re paying more to get less service. Will never use again.
Refused to send my Amazon order because it was a charging pack and labeled "Dangerous".
We had to pay to ship it to a friend in the US. Was charge $40AU just to mail it back within the US. Then had to pay for our friend to send it to us. Ended up paying more in shipping than the product is worth.
This was supposed to be my Christmas present for my husband. It won't arrive on time and will end up costing twice as much as what I paid for the product.
Customer service don't care.
Hi Kayla,
Sounds like a very frustrating experience and especially disappointing if the end result is that it arrives too late for Christmas....
Read more It's actually aviation authorities that determine what is classified as dangerous goods and what we are allowed to post with them. While these items may still be able to be shipped internationally, there may be specific packaging, labelling or documentation requirements in order for them to be accepted or may only be able to be sent using a specific service. How did your friend end up shipping it from the States? Were they able to send it through the post or did they use a different carrier? If it was posted, do you know which service was used to send it? If you're able to share the tracking number, I'd be interested to see what service was used and to see if we can find out why this wasn't able to be shipped through Shopmate.Do not use this service, you will not receive your items, Auspost continue to deny that my parcel was delivered even though there is proof of delivery from the USPS, I wish I had read the great number of bad reviews this service gets, I though Auspost, mah, should be ok, and that is very far from the truth.
I am now trying to get $150 AUD returned to me due to Auspost losing my parcel.
The customer service just keeps fobbing you off, they are unwilling to help and make false claims.
I never received my goods and am out of pocket due to this shockingly poor service.
Hi Nik,
That sounds like an extremely frustrating and disappointing experience....
Read more I'd hope that the Shopmate team are looking into this for you, have they given you a case number at all?I was excited to order scented candles from Bath and Body Works US. I didn't think it would be an issue as I've ordered scented candles from Amazon US before and was able to get it, no dramas. So ShopMate marked my order as dangerous goods and when I emailed them (per their request), they responded with something that is completely irrelevant to my order's issue!! My package, according to them, was damaged and attached therein were 2 badly captured photos of a broken candle jar inside the package (I could not even tell which candle is this). No...
Read more information as to which candle is which... I ordered 4 candles (2 small jars and 2 large jars), so I'm like okay, which candle/s am I going to request a refund for? Long story short, this is such a nuisance. If you can buy from Amazon US, do so. If you have a friend or relative in the US, then maybe better if you ask them to buy it and send it to you. I've checked the guidelines about ordering scented candles in the US. It is not listed anywhere in the restrictions. I could be wrong, but then again this ShopMate experience is so terrible and I really regret ever trying their service. I didn't receive the candles, I didn't get a full refund of the candles I bought. Every single thing ShopMate does for you has a fee, too. What a great service!!! Not!!!!Oh no Belle, that's so disappointing not to mention incredibly frustrating!
Have you spoken to anyone at Shopmate over the phone? That might be a bit easier to communicate rather than via email given...

I posted a registered large letter on 18 September 2020 which never arrived at its destination. 100km away. The tracking app stops at Strathfield Mail Centre on 19 and again 21 September 2020.
It is now 16 Mayember 2020. Was for birthday present so very disappointed. Aust Post has given me back $100 and $6 odd for the postage but that is not the point it cost me more than that.
Where on earth is it and just how safe is registered post. Will it every arrive. This begs the question who has it????
I am now awaiting a registered post myself and am concerned I won't get it either.

No doubt they'll claim it's delayed due to COVID-19 but everyone knows that's just an easy out for them to sack staff and increase postage times particularly when you compare their services with a freight company like DHL who can get the exact same package size/product type from Dallas to Sydney for me for cheaper within 36hrs. I purchased a (heavy - 3.2kg!) mechanical keyboard from an American manufacturer, and was quoted AU$171 for shipping to Australia!
I chose to use Shopmate instead, and the experience was just the way it was supposed to be. I had it shipped to the provided US address, emailed through my invoice, and tracked it all the way to Australia. In the end the keyboard shipped for AUD$90; still incredibly expensive to ship just a keyboard, but almost half the price of the manufacturer's quote.
My only gripes are:
1) I had to email my invoice, instead...
Read more of submitting it through an encrypted website. This is insecure and error-prone (felt like the 1990s again!). 2) The calculator quoted a price excluding insurance, which cost around AU$5.00 extra. Would be five stars with those issues fixed.- 2 reviews

Bought phone from Auspost. NO RETURN policy which isn't stated on the product page. Took 9 days to get here. I bought products from Amazon on the same night and they arrived 2 days later. I will never buy from Auspost again.

It took 5 weeks, more than 10 phone calls & over 15 emails to get my parcel forwarded from the shopmate USA warehouse, minus some of the items which they removed, even though MSDS had listed safe for air freight. Complete incompetence & excuses over & over again, blaming it on pandemic. I've since changed to a different forwarding service who has their warehouse in the same city & had no issues whatsoever, fast turnaround time, at a far cheaper rate.

My parcel weighs only 5.5kg and cost US$120. ShopMate want to charge me an extra AU$450.26 to get the parcel to Australia because it's a bit larger than they allow - despite how light it is! They never made it obvious that their size restrictions are so narrow! That information is hidden deep on the FAQ page. Never have I had such issues with other redirection services. Australia Post & ShopMate are an absolute disgrace.
This system is very slow but lack of communication is even more frustrating!
I purchased approx $400 worth of items from a US store on 6th August and got an email from the retailer confirming it was delivered to Shopmate on 17th August (via FedEx) which is fine. Shopmate was slow to scan it in (delays were advised on their website so I was happy to be patient) and they confirmed on 26th August it had arrived at the warehouse, 10 days after it actually arrived. I declared the goods and paid the invoice instantly the same day ($130 for shipping ...
Read moreand GST) and forwarded the invoice as instructed the same day. Heard nothing for about another 10 days when my tracking number started working on Auspost tracking. This showed it was cleared by customs on 1st September and 'arrived at AusPost facility' on 3rd September. I logged an inquiry much earlier in the process when it was in limbo between USA and Australia and they finally responded on 11th September advising they were pleased to tell me my parcel had cleared customs 10 days earlier (not very helpful info by that point!). Logging inquiries is impossible as they resolve or delete them and then when I log a new one they say they can see one has already been logged and that I should add a comment to that inquiry (but I am unable to as they are resolved and I have no access to them) and do not actually offer any information or advice on parcel progress. It's now been 1 month that my parcel has been sitting in the Sydney facility. When originally writing this review weeks ago I was offered to mediate - this involved the AusPost rep telling me it's already being investigated and copying and pasting what I had been told (that there are delays and shipping should take 2 weeks which has well and truly passed now). I was hoping someone would actually help me locate my parcel but no. Then this morning (29th September) I received an email from Shopmate advising me that my parcel had arrived at their warehouse in the U.S. and to declare my goods and pay the invoice. I rang up about this and spoke with a lovely man who tried to be helpful. I have not made another purchase in the U.S, my original package has still not shown up and the tracking number for this new parcel is the same as my original parcel (and I have only ever shopped at that merchant once and used Shopmate once). I am being told that it's up to me to figure out why the merchant has sent me a second parcel (they haven't - my items were not split up and it was two months ago that I ordered it, plus it's impossible to have the same tracking number twice!!) and up to me to pay the shipping or pay to return it to the store. It's just insane! They were adamant I have two different parcels, one that's just delayed in Sydney and one new one (but with the same tracking number). I suspect something either went wrong in Portland and my parcel was scanned in incorrectly back in August, or never shipped to Aus and re-scanned this morning, or reached Sydney and was accidentally sent back to the US. It's too coincidental that my package is missing and the same package with the same tracking number turns up in Portland again. I can't even declare the goods or the value of the goods of this 'new' package since I have no invoice for it since I have not ordered anything (and that's me willing to pay $130 shipping for the same package TWICE). And Aus Post will not budge and can only tell me what the computer shows for them. It's incredibly frustrating and I cannot see a way forward. I understand there are delays and stress on the Aus Post system right now, but plenty of other parcels have arrived just fine through the Au sPost network (just a few days late which is what should be expected in current times). It's been 2 months since I made my purchase, and yet to hear an update on my parcels whereabouts. Extremely disappointed in this service and I will never use Shopmate again.Find out how Australia Post Shopmate compares to other Couriers

100% incompetence with my ShopMate business dealings. NEVER could locate already delivered packages! Dozens of emails, phone calls and time wasted to just get the BASIC SERVICE ADVERTISED. Charged LESS to send “high value” 3kg laptop than a small bedside alarm clock(0.7kg). Postage costs 150% MORE than actual product value. Crappy SERVICE. OVERPRICED. Do not use SHOPMATE. Never will I spend a cent on this crap “service” again.

Thought to use an Australian company to get our normal purchases from Walmart which we buy on our travels to USA. Just found out that Shopmate has no licence to ship many items so considered "dangerous goods" Since when is OREO's and Advil dangerous goods. I need to arrange to get return to sender for most of my purchases at my expense. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME ON SHOPMATE. ANOTHER AUSTRALIA POST JOKE. I have just been advised that they want $5 for each packet of Oreo's they need to dispose off (more like EAT).

I imagine our own Australian Post is the safest, but so long as you know you will be getting majorly ripped on delivery.
Purchased a projector from the states. The weight of the package is 4.76 kgs. The chargeable weight was 7.0kg. Just horrific. Utterly UTTERLY horrific. Read all the other reviews regarding this on here, and all every person gets is a sorry to hear so on and so forth. Yet, it remains the same. They have you by the balls the moment your package is in their warehouse, so you pay whatever wrong price they throw at you and you get your item. Simple. And that is exactly what I did. But I'd be damned if I too didn't report it here. Perhaps after they ...

I bought a genuine hard to get product off amazon USA, it was what they considered oversized two objects at (1.7m x 15cm) packages - I told them to return it, they came back with up to three times the cost to have it just returned. Also they charge by item price rather than weight!!! overall, Shopmate is a ripoff and will no longer using them again.
Purchased 2 golf golf putters 90cm in length, ShopMate claims are oversized. I have asked for a repack. After 5 days still no reply. For anything over 105cm use another USA address. It means if your like golf don't buy drivers or hybrids from ShopMate
first time using the service, bought a t shirt & hat from a store in the US.
It took 10 business days to log in as received in the US warehouse, then about a week to reprocess, and one more week to arrive from Portland USA to Gold Coast Australia.
There is limited information while each process is happening. You wont know anything until it arrives in sydney for customs clearing.
Price was a few dollars more than the estimate,
overall happy with the service, however, it takes a while. if you take that on board, you should do fine....

I thought I’d try out a parcel forwarded and thought auspost wold be trustworthy. Huge mistake. I ordered around $95 worth of hair products.
