Threats by Cannon toward its customers
See the thread for the "Cannon Canterbury Inbuilt CANTIB-SD".
We are getting threats from Cannon to allow access to their contractors, not their employees, to enter our home. .
I have been advised by a Cannon supplier that Cannon contractors are going into peoples and shutting down their heaters and stating it is "for their own safety". The persistent feigning of concern from Cannon is astounding. They are doing this under the pretence they are fitting a new glass support bracket.
First up, they need to explain in detail what the def...Read more
iciency associated with their Voluntary recall. Which actual part is faulty. Provide details drawings as the problem they state needs fixing cannot mechanically happen. When they come to fit the new part they then proceed to test the heater then say that it is faulty and remove the gas connection then cap it off so the unit cannot used. You will NOT be given a choice. They walk away leaving the customer with no heater. Cannon need to explain why they threaten customers if they do not comply with their "voluntary" recall. If you do not cooperate Voluntarily their next step is to report you to the Authorities. They provide your details along with your non compliance to the Gas Technical Regulator.1 comment

Sub standard product
We have just moved into our new home with our Cannon Freestanding gas heater that will not stay alight. We have had the fan replaced on the advice of the gas plumber but it still just turns on then turns straight back off again.... very frustrated and disappointed especially after reading all of the similar reviews. Please lift your game cannon and give us all a decent product.

Living without out it, it's been disabled.
I had my heater serviced and it had to be disabled do to carbon monoxide spillage. When I phoned cannon they said I needed to add more ventilation; leave the door open or window. Why have the heating on. I now have to buy a new heater. Looking at the reviews most of the gas freestanding heaters have issues. Why cant suppliers help you when there is an issue. I feel it is dangerous only that I had it serviced or I would about the carbon monoxide spillage.

require adequate ventilation in the home. Your heater has been decommissioned due to negative pressure, which is explained below: • Most gas heaters are designed to burn using air drawn from the room. Rising hot air expels the products of combustion (smoke and gases) up the flue (or chimney) and into the outside air. Range hoods and exhaust fans can compromise this process, as they suck air from the room and expel it outside. This air has to be replaced and must come from somewhere. In many houses, this replacement air will come through gaps such as those around doors and windows. However, in a tightly sealed house with a flued heater and a strong exhaust fan, the only source of replacement air may be the flue or chimney in which case the heater’s exhaust gases, including carbon monoxide, may be drawn into the room rather than up the flue.Similar opinion? Ripping off the elderly
My elderly parents have one of these it has never worked properly since they got it 8 months ago. Now they are told they have to pay for parts to fix it. Rip off. They should be ashamed. They have been told it’s now out of warranty after just 8 months.

Fundamental flaw - electronic module keeps failing
2012 Purchased from Gstore $3200
2014 Electronic module faulty, 1 month with no heating as no-one will service these models (I wonder why), $550 to replace module with 'new and improved' module
2017 Electronic module faulty, 1 month with no heating, 2014 repairer will no longer touch these models (I wonder why), long waiting list for few technicians willing to work on them, another $660 to service and replace module, IXL has sent wrong part from Sydney, still no fix, still cold.
Sadly, these heaters seem fundamentally flawed. If you don’t believe me, check out all the angry reviews on ieatwords.com

Choose another manufacturer.
Bought this junk in 2006. within 3 years the control card failed. Expensive considering the components on the PCB. Soon after it started leaking carbon monoxide. It has been unused ever since. Asked for quotes to have it looked at and were given ridiculous prices. So it has been sitting there just to remind me why I shouldn't buy from this manufacturer again. Very expensive piece of junk.

Buying cannon Canterbury again
Had one for years and loved it. Never gave me any problems but the fan is noisy on high. Just moved to the south east and buying the same again at Lens Trading. I hope that it's as good as my last one or better even. This one is free standing also but will be on LPG.

canon heaters are costly to own
My freestanding canterbury has had the electronic ignition replaced three times in about 10 years .cost each time about $250.00 to buy plus $80 to $120 to install it .They last about 2 years. I rang Canon & the person there told me the heater is 11 years old and was not very helpful. Well I am sorry but when the first one went it was only 3 years old & then it went every 2 years. Heater was great when working, but service from canon ? .The last time I had it replaced the service guy told me about a safety problem, carbon monoxide leaks so he checked it and it was reading 30 upwards .He turned it off & told me to ring Canon. I did this & got the same result as last time.0 help .

Worked well....until it wouldn't work.
Looks like here we go again after replacing a Fitzroy with a Canterbury. Replacement heater is two years and one day old and won't start. Sent Canon an email & follow up phone call and get a fairly dismissive Sampford IXL Canon representative on the other end.
Yes the heater was replaced - at my expense, with a new Canon Canterbury that is doing a similar thing to the last one except this one won't go at all.
Why oh why did I let myself get talked into another Canon!

Great heater - 100% reliable, efficient, and looks good
We installed the Canterbury to replace a large freestanding wood heater 5 years ago, and we have never looked back. Simple, clean, reliable operation, realistic wood fire appearance and much safer than a wood heater. Cheaper to operate, too. Unless cutting firewood is your hobby, or you have don't access to reticulated gas, why would you persist with wood heating?
Fuss free operation, reliable and efficient

Great ambience and heat
I purchased a cannon Canterbury heater, It heats our living area about 50 sm. We start it on high for 10 minutes then turn to low. Our gas bill has decreased because we now only need our ducted heating in the mornings and for a brief stint at night. It turns on an off with the push of a button.
Energy Efficient

Dissappointing for the price
Paying $3300 for a 2010 model you would expect it to perform well for at least 5 years but there has been quite a few problems with this unit over the last 3 years. The latest was the ignition box gave up after only just 3 years of use replacement cost was $210 plus labour. This happened during July and what was the worst part of all this is that IXL did have any spare parts they were 'out of stock' for nearly 3 weeks in the depth of winter! Hard to believe they could not plan ahead for this as it was winter in Victoria! I also found the custom...Read more
er service to be slightly rude and unhelpful. So I wouldn't recommend this experience of product or customer service to anyone. Does heat well when working The heater is noisy and customer service lacking. Nobody can find the knobs to turn it on OK if you know how but difficult if you don't.1 comment

OK but noisy!
We replaced a wood fire with a Cannon Canterbury Free Standing gas log heater in our large Family Room in April 2010. We already have a Cannon Canterbury Inbuilt in our Lounge Room and this has been very successful. It was based on this good experience with the Inbuilt that we decided to stay with Cannon. Little did I know that Cannon changed the design in the year between buying the two models.
The Free Standing heater is very disappointing in that the three speed fan is extremely noisy on the lowest setting. I don’t mind it making a bit of ...Read more

We will see. Very annoying right now.
It is mid winter, school holidays and our freestanding Canterbury gas log fire has decided to stop working after only 3 years.
The heater, while efficient, is noisy. Worse that that, it is unreliable. Buyers beware ~ proceed with caution!
I wish that we had never disposed of our pot belly stove.
We think there's a problem with the ignition and judging from other review posters we're in for a rocky time trying to get it fixed.

Good Afternoon Bob
You will find under the glass of the heater there is a fascia panel. By removing this you will find you units compliance plate which will have the model number.
If your unit is older than 2009, you may also find a copy of this in the back of your user manual.
Kind regards Cannon

Dear Potter,

Cannon Appliances is currently undertaking a Voluntary Safety Check on certain model heaters which were manufactured between March 2001 and October 2009. For certain heaters manufactured between 2001 and 2006 which previously had a safety check performed, and these heaters only, it is possible that the front glass concealing the firebox could slip downwards from its fixed position leaving a small opening which could allow combustion gases, including carbon monoxide, to escape into the room. In order to avoid the potential of this occurring, Cannon Appliances has contacted the owners of these heaters and arranged for a service technician to re-attend, at Cannon’s cost, to inspect the heater and fit glass support spacer brackets to ensure movement of the glass does not take place. As part of any work performed on a gas heating appliance, a safety check must be performed in accordance with the test methods outlined by the governing gas safety regulator. If the heater, or its installation, is found to be unsafe for any reason (for example, because of negative pressure due to exhaust fans in the home, or a faulty chimney) then the law requires the heater to be disabled until such time as the heater and its installation are safe to use. It is at the discretion of the householder should they wish to decline and not have their heater checked, however under strict guidelines Cannon Appliances must report any such occurrences to the Regulator. Cannon Appliances uses external service providers to facilitate the maintenance of these appliances. The service providers are licenced contractors who are not directly affiliated with Cannon. It is an accepted standard industry practice for organisations to utilise the services of suitably qualified and experienced external resources to carry out work of this kind. All manufacturers along with all service providers have a responsibility to act in accordance with the requirements of the gas safety regulator and provide advice in circumstances where it may be considered that safety could be compromised. Cannon believes that safety must always come first, and that all gas heaters should be checked for safety every two years. Kind regards Cannon
