Credit / Debit Card Insurances, Comprehensive, Essentials, etc...Don’t bother it’s not real insurance
Surely you would have thought by having a diamond MasterCard that you would get premium travel insurance...wrong, our flight was delayed by 10hrs which allso meant we lost our pre booked first nights accommodation. Made a claim and guess what.. wasn’t insured because they don’t cover delayed flights due to mechanical issues. Hahaha what a joke!!

Looks good on the surface but watch out for the detail
The CBA offers international travel insurance IF you pay for all your travel with your CBA gold (or higher) credit card. That seems nice. However, please note, unless you go into your netbank and ACTIVATE the cover - there is a push button on the insurance page -, or call, or call into a branch to activate it, you only get the absolute MINIMUM cover. If you do either of the latter, take a note and/or send a confirmatory email.
Fortunately, we picked this nuance up, what I will call "sleight of hand" a few months later when browsing the page an...Read more
d got a bit of a shock when I realised we did not have automatic full cover. The base cover is REALLY basic. As luck would have it, things went pear shaped just before our journey and we had to delay our trip, which, had I not taken that necessary activation step, would not have been covered. Not good eh? Well, in my view and experience it seems that there is another layer of avoidance of responsibility by CBA and/or their underwriter, Allianz. On two occasions I was given incorrect information about who to contact by CBA staff in the insurance section. Rather unprofessional what? Then, to add insult to injury, Allianz refused the claim because, after two pages of standard legalese, they claimed that I had not activated the cover. This despite me providing ALL the information in writing to their assessor including a copy of the activation page. I could not help but get a very strong impression that their first response is : dis-allow the claim and let the claimant fight it! My case was cut and dried in terms of what the cover provided for. Overall it is a good deal, if you activate it and you keep a copy of everything. Best advice, read everything, keep copies of everything and take notes of every conversation. I have names and dates of all these stages to cover me. Just watch your back!!!

Exceptional Free Product
I must make a delayed review regarding CBA/Allianze Travel Insurance to help balance the register of negative comments. We travelled to Italy last year - April/May. While away I had a health episode requiring medical attention forcing cancellation of prebooked activities and trips. Upon contacting the insurers to make a claim, I was amazed at the helpful supportive and timely manner in which my needs were met. All moneys were refunded without hesitation. I absolutely recommend this product!

DEBACLE - THIS IS A RORT! SHAME ON COMM BANK
We made the mistake of utilising this insurance . We activated it before travelling with our 2 young children overseas and due to a delayed flight missed the connecting flights back to Australia. After calling the insurance helpline that night - we found that it was manned by one person who had no idea about the travel insurance policies and could offer no assistance whatsoever unless it was a medical emergency. We then came home and put in a claim for the new tickets home - which were same price as the original tickets. After months of paper...Read more
work shuffling which we had to chase up from day one..I was informed by some teenage rep from allianz that our claim whilst "legitimate'our claim for those tickets would not be paid as the letter from the airline re the delay which we obtained was not clear enough about the cause for the delay. Apparently...it would have been fine if we were hi jacked (unlikely) We are now left to ask the Comm bank for assistance on the failed product we took out through them. Their answer -take it up with your insurer Allianze/comm bank. Allianz answer - take it up with the airline... the airlines answer - we provided proof so take it up with the insurer. What a joke. After years of handing money over for a mortgage and business account and insurance the one time we ask for assistance from this bank and they stonewall you. They don't even give a toss when you say you will move your accounts elsewhere. The customer support was patronising and abysmal. This bank is a joke and this insurance policy is an expensive joke. Do not rely on it and certainly don't trust that they will assist if you do and actually have to make a claim. They will pass the buck like nobody business...they cannot claim Can as their attitude. Its an inside joke to anyone who has dealt with the true nature of this institution.Similar opinion? CBA Travel Insurance - Stay away
They are the only bank that require you to go out of your way to activate your insurance. Activation is not automatically done by purchasing airline tickets; so many people are caught out. It’s basically not worth the paper it’s written on.

Excellent Travel Insurance CBA/Allianze
Had to cancel our holiday booking and flights at short notice due to a medical emergency and once we had provided the information requiested by the insurer CBA/Allianze Travel Insurance, they managed the claim in a very professional and timely manner.
Very satisfied customer.

I wish i read these reviews before I used this "free" insurance policy
All I can say is that the reviews which rank this service as "terrible" are absolutely true. I wish I had read them before we went ahead. Our holiday in the pacific was cut short when Cyclone Donna paid us a visit in Vanuatu. Unfortunately for us, that wasn't the worst of it. The worst part was trying to obtain a refund because apparently the warning's issued by the Australian government, the hotel and the entire internet wasn't enough evidence to prove that the cyclone took place and that we were affected by it. Our holiday was in May 2017 - ...Read more

Definitely not good value have used a number of times, but when you try to claim good luck. Have been dealing with CBA for decades but seriously thinking of moving, did not even have the courtesy to answer an email

I had a great experience with them
I took out travel insurance from my CBA gold credit card (complimentary) for our trip to New Zealand.
Our little one fell sick and couldn't fly, so the trip waz cancelled.
I made a claim online and submitted all required documentation. The process took about half an hour.
I then Waited about 8-9 business days and was contacted to provide some supporting documentation.
I then got a call that claim was approved and 3 days later Money was paid.
I read reviews on this site and got a bit scared from what I read thinking that they will t...Read more

We were misled
After lodging a claim for the return of our two bags, delayed in transit, eventually after 10 days one bag arrived, but after 3 weeks the second bag was declared lost. Qantas refused to accept responsibility as they were not the last carrier. Easyjet refused to accept responsibility as the bag never arrived at their terminal, Contact was made to our insurance company (Commonwealth Bandk Platinum Credit Card) they advised us to contact them after receiving word from the Airlines re claims. We did this and included all relevant information. This ...Read more
process was quite involved. Finally we received word that our claim for delayed baggage would be honoured, but our claim for the lost bag would not be honoured due to the fine print on the policy that states that they will not pay if we are entitled to compensation from the airline. As we did not get any compensation from the airline, we have been left with nothing! A return phone call delivered this information. We expected that we would be given the details in writing - at least!Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

C.B.A. ALLIANZ TRAVEL INSURANCE...... STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY
After paying extra annual fees for a GOLD AMEX and Gold MasterCard credit cards, because a Commonwealth Bank Branch advised us that we could get "FREE TRAVEL INSURANCE" if we had the "Gold Cards", these Gold Cards of course have an increase of around $80.00 annual fee verses credit cards that do not have the Travel Insurance and extra Qantas Points as an incentive. However after reading the Allianz travel insurance policy contract, it basically states in writing "Allianz will NOT PAY FOR most items which are most commonly claimed on travel insu...Read more
rance claims" and if they do then the excess is incredibly expensive! My advise to anyone depending on this Travel Policy is READ THE CONTRACT CLEARLY, BEFORE YOU TRAVEL I have read it and fortunately before travel started I got a different policy from another Insurance provider / company. I will soon cancel the two Com Bank Gold Credit Cards. As the increased annual credit card fee for the extra Qantas points does not equate to a good deal either as 4 Com Bank credit card points = 1 QFF point, it's a joke! My advise is save the credit card fee money and pay for your fare outright as it will be cheaper in the long run! Commowealth Bank and Allianz should be ashamed of themselves for theiving from there long term Bank Customers for trying to CON CUSTOMERS.... absolutely terrible!Similar opinion? Terrible
Took out CBA Diamonds Award credit card insurance and was recently declined cover for re-arranged flights to Asia. They are like forensic lawyers trying to 'catch you out' when in fact they are unwilling to follow a logical, common sense approach to a claim. And this is with all the supporting documentation sent to them. I will not be taking their refusal of cover lying down. I am taking them to the Financial Ombudsman Service. Read the Commbank Travel insurance on this company
Received my new CBA card which included item on travel insurance, as I am traveling a lot thought I would look at it. Well to my surprise it had a one star rating from EVERYONE that had made a claim. They mainly blamed the underwriter who are Allianz so I looked at this site and its all 4 & 5 star ratings. fun thing these people had not tried to claim. go figure.

I am a world traveller & never have I encountered such pathetic & disgusting service. Pay the extra and go else where. Insurance claim
Hi!
The complementary insurance issues by Com Bank with Allianz does not carry any value and if something goes wrong with the travel, they just keep on asking the same questions and paper work again and again as I had put in the claim on 21st of December 2016 and three months on I am still chasing them for answers. After sending reminder on the 10th of March they informed me that they will get back to me by 17th of March and have not received any communication so far regarding the claim and had to send another reminder today.

CBA Complimentary Travel Insurance with Allianz
Poor customer service for starters! These guys have no people skills and seem to work like robots.
I have activated my insurance through the Comm Bank website over a month ago only to find them rude, inexperience, inflexible and unwilling to help with changes and this is prior to me going on the trip! This is the second time I have had issues with CBA-Allianz Complimentary Insurance. CBA who are normally good to deal with, are making themselves look bad having Allianz as their insurance provider.

Insurance claim
I booked my airline tickets to India for 21st December, by Malaysian Airline, through Spendless Travel & Tours P L,who have closed their shop and figured out that they have not paid the airlines only on the 20th of December 2016 and I had to rebook the tickets with Air Travel at a much higher price due to short notice and Christmas time. I have also lost the bookings I had arranged when reaching India and lost couple of days off my holidays as i had to rebook on the 23rd of December. k complimentary with Alliannz. They asked me over a period of 4 weeks lot of paper work which was submitted and at the end of which has been refused by the insurance company. The insurance company has asked me to to Tribunal which in opinion is not right as if i go the tribunal I will have spend money for the case and loose time and at the end of it I am not certain if i will get the money. I feel that the insurance company is making it hard so as to avoid the claim which is genuine. In my opinion Combank is duping the customers by giving complimentary insurance to their customers when they cannot honour a genuine claim which has caused lot of stress and monetary loss for me. If i knew this is the case I would have purchased a more genuine insurance from some other company who would honour their deal and have a credit card from another bank not from Commbank. Both Commbank and Allianz have to liaise with each other to resolve the issue and put the customer through this grief. The costs that are claimed are only the direct costs in this case not even the indirect costs of losing holidays with delayed travel plans or cancelling of ongoing journey tickets, accommodation, etc.1 comment

Insurance HA! who are they kidding? Stay away.
My husband and I were on a long trip in UK then Germany and Italy and paid over $1200 for our insurance with the Commbank. We were travelling between hotels and decided to stop as it was too early to book into the next hotel. There were people around and we parked between two other cars. Long story short...left the car for 25 minutes and when we came back someone had broken in and stolen all of our suitcases which were out of sight in the boot of the car. EVERYTHING....GONE.
We thought we were okay as we had paid for the insurance. Report...Read more

Anja Kraussasked
Hi,
I am a platinum Visa card holder and would like to know if I hire a car in Adelaide
Am I covered for the damage excess if required on the car ? This is for the complimentary insurance for my travel from Canberra to Adelaide return by air and car hire in Adelaide. Thanks Anja
1 answer
Hi Anja,
No, you are not covered. CBA offers International travel insurance, not domestic. Even you plan to travel oversea with CBA free travel insurance, I suggest to read the PDS very carefully. Free insurance doesn't mean they will pay you your expenses free. If you are not a lawyer, I would recommend to get a proper travel insurance with good reviews.
