Not that cheap
We paid our $60 membership thinking we would give it a try. We live a long way from the nearest Costco so only made 5 visits in the 12 months so have decided not to renew for the following reasons: Many prices are dearer then equivalent supermarket prices, so be sure of pricing per unit before you go. $60 per year is a lot to average out per visit on top of any savings to come out ahead, you would need to be shopping frequently to make it worthwhile, and to find products that you use in bulk to make the savings. A lot of their products are l...Read more
uxury items like bulk chocolates so instead of saving money there is the temptation to add in a $15 - $20 'extra' that you wouldn't normally get, again eating into any savings. There is not always the same products available so you might find a product at a good price one time, then can't find it again. Prices on bulk meats seemed high, due to traveling some distance we did not buy these so can't comment on quality but you can do better at supermarkets. On our last visit before membership expiry we decided to treat ourselves to one of the 'specials' in the bakery - 9 enormous cupcakes for $9.99, and I mean enormous. We were so disappointed to find they were dry and stale inside and just pleased we didn't go for the more expensive enormous cakes or pies. Catering trays of sandwiches, salads, pastries etc look good value for a party but if you have to pay $60 on top to get them not such a bargain and if my experience and others is anything to go by the quality isn't there. There were things we did find good value and were usually available but not enough to make the membership fee worth it. In fact we struggled on our last trip to find much of any value that we really wanted to buy that we couldn't get at a regular supermarket for much the same price and not have to find storage for bulk items. However, the staff at Costco Lidcombe have always been friendly and for those complaining about lack of service packing trolleys, this is a warehouse and you unpack and repack your own trolley just like at Aldi.Similar opinion? Happy Costco Cumstomer
We have been shopping at Costco for a few months now, and love it. Some of the products are more expensive than coles/woolies when you work out the price for an individual item, but many are way cheaper. For example, $3.90 each for men's Rexona deodorant compared to $6.90 - $7 at the main supermarkets. $13.90 for 900grams of coconut oil compared to $19.98 for the exact same product at the local health food shop. And $8.89 for 24 pepsi max cans is a steal.

Won't be renewing my membership
Not for me, staff were rude and un-helpful, no real savings to be had, I have just put this down to a bad experience I wont repeat, if this is how Americans run their supermarkets I hope no more of them set up business here.

A bit of competition
We finally have a business that brings competition to to the big retailers like coles and woolies. Most items are pretty cheap and the meat qualty is so much better than the retail stores. People may think it cost more but you pay for what you get. Toilet paper is my favourite item there. Frozen foods are cheap. They also have stuff the other retailers don't like american cheese and brancorts yoghurt. Good frozen asian food too. Just be careful as some cold product get left out of the fridge for too long and staff put them back in. Have had som...Read more

Not worth of spending $60 membership.
Recently I had to cancel my membership and never going back to them for reasons like:
- 90% of brands are same as you buy in Woolies or Coles. Infact many of these brands are on special in Woolies & Coles which is cheaper than Costco.
- Costco Cusomer service is terrible. Staff does not know anything about products.
- No rewards for shopping with any amount. And I still have to pay $60 ? For what ?
- Because number of stores are less you may have to drive long just to buy grocery. If you are going with family and kidz, good luck, your da...Read more

I went to shopping, just turn back try to get some flowers from the shelf not event 5 mins, I came back to my trolley that only 2 meters away, 2 customers try to removed their stuffs in to my trolley, I told them that was mine. Not good value
Prices are not competitive with Woolworths, and Coles when they have their specials. When you add in the fuel docket savings, frequent flyer points, no requirement for $60 payment and no need to buy bulk. Costco are not an option. On top of that, the shopping experience at the major stores is far more organised and pleasant in comparison.
Poor value and poor shopping experience

Costco Auburn - Big and Amazing!
I love costco. They have everything under the sun, and the prices are great. You can't buy a lot of the products anywhere else beacuse they are from usa and are exclusive to costco stores Yes you do need to pay for a membership even to enter the store, but it's not expensive, and after a couple of visits it ends up paying for itself. The staff are friendly, the products - especially the fresh foodstuffs - are high quality, and the range is fantastic. I will always shop there!
Great products and prices.

Awsome
Shopped at Coles & Woollies for over 20 years and made use of every single benefit they had to offer (flybuys/rewards) and used to think Aldi was a better deal nowadays. But then window shopped at Costco.
Voo Hoo: Every item is almost 50% less than Coles and Woolworths and 25% less than Aldi (with brands they sell you never heard of & sometimes the quality is real bad, like Dentitex Toothpaste)
So for 60 bucks you get stuff for almost half price and renowned brands – that’s snacks, food, Deli, electronics, electrical and booze as well (well almost every product in store) & now comes the big one FUEL (you’ll be amazed at the price)
Price / Quality
60 bucks - Na should be free

Saves us money
We joined as Costco members since they opened their store in Lidcombe, NSW, so coming on 2 years or so. We must have spent over $4000 since then ( I kept all the receipts) and for a large family I'm hoping that we have saved too, buying in bulk on toilet rolls, kitchen rolls, cleaning products, milk, etc My spouse likes the quality of the business shirts, a lot cheaper than other stores like Myers.
The appliance section is great and they have different products in stock so always something different to find, it is my favourite store ! The queues at check out can be long, it is open to 8.30 pm most days though. I have taken friends there and they like it too. They have specials on too, lots to enjoy !
Inexpensive and good quality

What does my $60 membership go towards?
Costco Australia, I'm confused. Why am i paying $60 a year? Is it for cheaper prices? Can't be, Woolworths, Coles and Aldi are all usually cheaper. Is it for the service? Can't be, standing 30 minutes in line at the checkouts is far removed from Woolworths policy of opening another checkout if more than 2 people are waiting. Is it for the range?
Can't be, again, the major supermarkets have a wider variety in groceries, and any electronics i can get online. I'm really clutching at straws here, but is it for the food court? Can't be, aisles n...Read more
ot wide enough for the massive trolleys, only one each of the condiment and drinks dispensers, which were empty last time I went. Costco, you should be paying me $60 a year to endure your store. In fact that's what I'm heading over today for, cancelling this worthless membership.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Only problem is the trollies! Otherwise excellent
Make a list of your regular items, get on a forum and compare. Toilet paper, paper towels, Quinoa, frozen berries, dishwashing/washing detergents, razor blades, shampoo, conditioner, batteries.. All very worth your while. Milk alone is $1.30 cheaper than Aldi. We can only use A2 milk and just the 12 litres weekly save me $7.30. Baby spinach and rocket are half the price of your green grocer. I go weekly and stock up on what's depleted. Frozen items are unbeatable. Meat is of very good quality and lasts well. Lamb cutlets are about $10 cheaper ...Read more
per kilo than anywhere else. If I am having a party, my time preparing food is more valuable then the $55 membership ( I have an ABN). I can buy healthy, delicious food that is already prepped or cooked and just reheat. The gyozas, prawn dumplings and such, are great. Everyday healthy items like nuts and pine nuts, are a lot cheaper per unit. The ghiardelli chocolate buttons for baking and the vanilla pod paste are incomparable per gram/unit to what you can find in stores. I don't have a Big W nearby to go and buy from there, although I compare the online prices and they are not far off (usually within a couple of dollars), but the petrol and time to go from one place to another to buy only a couple of items, is not worth the hassle. The quality of the clothes is far better than your kmart/target cousin. Other people who complain are not comparing apples with apples. Things like towels, you can buy a bath sheet, good thick quality for $15. Not even kmart can sell you anything like it. 1000ct thread king sized bed sheets, $80. C'mon!!! Have any of the complainers ever even touched anything past a 50/50 polycotton sheet to have a say? I bet you, NOT. Customer service, never had a problem in 20 months. Checking your docket? Trying to keep others honest. Returns, never an issue.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Prices not competitive
In my opinion, prices at Costco aren't cheaper than at Coles or Woolworths. Given that Coles and Woolworths gives 50% discount on most products once every 6 months, I found that bulk buying at Coles and Woolworths easier and cheaper than at Costco.
Everyday Rewards and Coles flybys are free memberships compared to the ($60/yr?) Costco memberships.
Prices on groceries not cheap.
Prices on electricals no cheaper than at Bing Lee. Any astute buyer can easily get cheaper electricals of name brands by doing some negotiation at Bing Lee, R...Read more
etravision, Dick Smith etc. At Costco, I couldn't see any avenue to negotiate on price. Prices were only as marked. For no-name electricals, going to Supercheap auto or Bunnings was cheaper. I know people who live a few blocks from the Auburn store in Sydney who will not renew their membership. Competition helps keep the prices at Coles and Woolworths down. Ongoing membership fee, prices not cheaper than Woolworths or ColesSimilar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

I was hoping for more
I took off two stars because of this -
I was hoping for better prices, more variety, an easier and more enjoyable shopping experience. It gets too crowded so that creates stress. I had to reverse my huge trolley (with hardly anything in it) down the aisle because of the pile up of trolleys and people ahead of me.
I don't get why you have to buy 2 loaves of bread when it isn't cheaper than buying bread on special elsewhere. They sell yesterday's bread (like other stores), and when I went at 10 AM they didn't even have today's bread out y...Read more
et. So be careful and count 5 days to the use-by-date. At least if I was buying today's bread it would be worth buying two loaves. I wanted semi-skim (or light) long life milk but they only had skim or the very small size full cream. So not good for stocking up on long life milk unless you like skim milk. This is disappointing since it is the main thing I stock up on - back to Aldi for that. I would always plan an early trip - get there just before 10 AM on a less popular day like a Tuesday. as it gets too crazy. And parking can get hard too.Similar opinion? Costco beats Aussie Retailers!
Costco has all the selections of brand name products and groceries under one roof. Quality clothing from Levi's to Guess and Nike are just some of the brands in store. The meat & seafood selection is great and priced accordingly for the Quality. The fruit at times can be slightly outdated, otherwise normally fresh.
I do all my shopping in one hit, saving me time and money and don't waste my time at Woolworths or Coles and to hell with Harvey Norman, pure rip offs!

s that see one thing in the store being too expensive and saying they can get it cheaper at Aldi, simple Don't shop at Costco, go shop at Aldi. Remember apples for apples! Sick of hearing your constant complaints and whining when you're in store or online, real easy, don't shop there then you won't complain and irritate other shoppers. One bad thing at Costco though is all the free sample stands are overwhelmed by scabs and block other shoppers from getting their shopping done. Great.
Shopping at Costco for over a year, and I've probably shopped there over 50 times. Many are saying that the customer service is appealing, yet I disagree. Ive found their customer service to be very well, I recently bought a massage chair that was around 60-70 kgs. I simply asked one of the workers if they could help me put it in my trolley and they did. Thinking that was all they also offered to help me bring it down to my car and also put it in the boot. Has Its Place
Thought id give Costco a go last week so went online and paid the $60 membership (Which is kinda rubbish btw) and went down to the Auburn store.
Like most stores it was chaos but thats hardly unexpected nor surprising especially considering the population size of NSW and that we only have the one store. Went through and got my photo for my card (You'd think for $60 they could print a colour photo) and then continued into the massive store. On the whole the store was ok better product display would help though it is very much a warehouse settin...Read more
