Very good but problem with descaling function.
Nearly perfect coffee machine. Bought this as an upgrade from lavazza pod coffee machine. Wife and I do not go out for coffee anymore as no one makes coffee as good as this machine can do. Descaling function is not good. Orange light keeps on blinking despite being put through descaling function.

First coffee machine. I love it!!
Felt I should do a review as I bought based on others reviews. It is simple to use for a first timer. Been making perfect coffees for days now. Only problem I have is the on/off button sticks a bit. I find I have to use a short black glass to fit as everything else is too big. Really no hardship there. Was certainly worth the money.

Value for money, compact & good coffee
I bought this on special at Myer for $285. It's small & compact so it doesn't take up much room on the kitchen bench. Being semi automatic It's quick, simple, straightforward, easy to use and easy to clean. The reminder light that comes on when it's time to clean is a good feature.
The very enoying thing is you have to take the bottom tray out to fit a mug & you cannot fit 2 mugs at the same time.

Cafe Quality yummmmy coffee
The quality of coffee is outstanding!!! I love that you can use either pods or fresh ground coffee and the milk frother is fantastic. It also looks great on the benchtop while not taking up heaps of room. It is easy to clean and has a 2 yr warranty Superb value for money!

Very happy (if slightly hyper) customer
I bought this 3 days ago (my first machine) and I think I'm going to love it. Currently I'm experimenting with the amount & tampedness (not in the spellchecker: means how squashed it is) of the beans as I have been making the coffee too weak. Tried less tamping today (per the instructions - duh!) on a double dose and now have the heart rate of an eight year old.
I love that the machine seems to be sturdy and the instructions are pretty comprehensive. I think I'll need to keep referring to them for a while.
I am lucky that my normal mugs are ...Read more

Fantastic Coffee machine!
I have had this machine for several months now. I am using Sacco Coffee beans fresh from Sunbury Sacco and I use my burr grinder to grind each dose fresh for each coffee, which is a crucial step to get the best coffee from a simple home\office style machine and it makes delicious coffee every time.
It takes up very little bench space and makes very little noise compared to the sunbeam machine I used to have.
As it is a single boiler, after you have poured your coffee shot and prepared your milk you need to cool the boiler by turning the steam...Read more

A bit better them instant nescaffee. Is not worth it.
In during long time I used italian perculatar (coffee' machina per stove) and I burn then all the time (or forgot to add water or left for to long). Also Their quality seems to me is worse. They all made in China, coffee starts to have metal taste ( I tried many of them aluminum, metal, big, small, heavy and not) or no taste at all. And Of couse I tried different coffee'. So finally I desided to try coffee' machine automatic .
De Longhi EC680M is my first experience. Easy to use, no taste of metal for now, does cremma but the taste a bit better then instant Nescaffee. I would not recomend. If I could I give back.

Its a winner
I really like this machine. What I like is being able to use both the ESE pods and the grounds. I use the frother to froth the milk in my mug and then remove the stand under the coffee dispense (as there isnt room to put a mug) and deliver the coffee into the already frothed milk. This way I get a lovely hot mug of coffee without using a jug for the milk.
If hubby wants a cup we use cups and the double hit. and overall it produces a really good cup.

Makes espresso making more fiddly than it needs to be
I've been using espresso machines at home for years and needed to replace my most recent one. This Delonghi, as sleek and aesthetic as it looks, is difficult to use. To start, the drip tray is so small that when you use the steaming wand, you get splatters of hot water droplets all over the kitchen counter.
The milk steamer, too, does not produce textured milk. What you get is scalding hot milky dishwashing type bubbles when you use the frothing attachment provided. Without the attachment, with just the nozzle, you get luke warm foamy milk....Read more
So it either heats up the milk too quickly without giving you the chance to properly texturise it, or it produces the foam too quickly without letting you bring the milk to a nice temperature. The portafilter and baskets are also another fiddly aspect. I usually grind about 7 or 8g of coffee into a single shot basket and can tamp and extract with no problems on the machines I have used in the past. For this one however, put in the tiniest amount too much and the portafilter will not be able to lock into place on the machine. I had to turn my grinder all the way down to the minimum dispensing amount in order to be able to make a single cup of coffee. And so as a result of using less coffee grinds, you end up with an espresso with less flavour. And in order to lock the portafilter in place, I had to really hold the unit down onto the counter because it was so light and compact that the whole thing would twist around with the portafilter. Annoying Now in having said all of that, it is not a terrible machine, but since I have used ones before that get the job done so much more effectively, my 2/5 star rating comes about because the Delonghi comes off as being more of a nuisance in the way it restricts you when making your drink. This might have happened because they had to compromise on features to fit it into such a slim unit perhaps? I used it to make 2 cups of coffee today and it is already repacked into its box ready to be returned.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Beautiful coffee, easy to use
I received this machine as a gift just over a week ago. I've never owned an espresso machine before so was considering a pod coffee machine but my husband bought me this instead seeing as it can use the ESE 'pods' as well as any brand of ground coffee you desire.
I did try the ESE pod (I received some as part of the gift) I wasn't thrilled with them and found they did little to save on time or add to convenience. I also didn't like the coffee used in the one I tried or the amount of waste created.
The machine is very straight forward, eas...Read more
y to use and clean, super fast to heat up and takes little longer than an instant coffee to make (I don't drink my coffee milky so don't need to use the steam wand). The clean up is over in a minute as well and can easily wait until you've finished your cuppa. As for steaming milk I have tried it for hot chocolate, only using the wand in 10 second bursts as advised by the manual. Within a minute you have beautiful creamy, warm frothy milk. Clean up for the wand is also easy. The wand can be used for hot water too. I was using it to turn my espresso into a long black but I found this messy and tedious and it's easier to boil the kettle. The machine pumps the water out in bursts so that by the time your cup is filled the water is splashing all over the place. Unfortunately the machine seems to have an issue with the power button and auto off function. The power button was working fine for the first week but has since decided it's stuck in the on position. I have to turn it off with the power point. As the machine keeps the water heated and ready I thought the auto off function was great but the times I hot side tracked and didn't turn the machine off it remained on the whole time. This would use quite a bit of power I'd imagine.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

My two cup filter has stopped working, The one cup works, but the two cup just sits there and the pressure increases, no coffee. Any ideas?

My light for descaling stayed on too after we descaled it 3 times. Now it has stopped pouring coffee. It comes out in dribbles. I did the water hardness trick too but it still isn't working properly. Any ideas?

Hi Libpac, I must say I was a bit put off the Delonghi Dedica due to a number of reviewers mentioning issues with the descaling function. I had a Sunbeam Cafe Series that lasted ten years that I never once descaled!! As I have had the Dedica for a few weeks I can not advise you at all about the descaling other than read the instructions carefully (which you probably have done already). The only other thing I can remind you of is that the Dedica (and other machines) can be very fussy regarding overfilling, over tamping and too fine a grind. You probably are doing it right....but just in case...I have our grinder just a bit finer than the coarse setting...I fill the basket to the top with loose grind, level off and gently tamp down so that I have about 5mm of clear space in the basket from the top. In the first week I was putting too much and too fine a grind and tamped too hard. and it either would not come through at all or just dribbled. If in doubt...if you have accurate kitchen scales use 7 grams for the single cup and around 10 - 12 for the double.. The Dedica does not take much coffee! Hope that helps! let me know how you go...because I will probably hit the same problem too! Regards Bernard
Watch the video on youtube and follow allong. Most importantly ## power off in correct sequence or you will have to do it over again .
