Hi Otunba,

Thanks for your question.

it’s difficult to diagnose without a service agent going to site. It could be that the tempering valve needs adjustment or replacement, there may be an issue with the power supply to the unit that has limited recovery time for the product or perhaps the unit hasn’t recovered fully i.e. to full temperature after a large load due to the recent colder weather. This could relate to the tariff the unit is connected to.

We recommend you book a service by calling 1300 365 115 or go online at dux.com.au and click on the "After Sales Service" link to find your nearest agent.

Thanks

Thursday night water seemed hotter than usual.
Friday the fan didn't cut out and water started to cool.
Saturday water lukewarm and fan still going, no cut out. Sighted three green lights on. Turned off power. Restarted later - no change.
Any ideas before I contact electrician. I could not afford weekend callout fee.

Have an issue with the fan running continuously. No leaks in hot water system and no constant drips from the relief valve. I can see fluid moving in the compressor sight glass. The Hotlogic controller has a steady green and red led which states it is operating correctly. The system produces hot water but I'm sure the power usage is going through the roof with the fan on all the time. The only thing I could think would be a stuck relay contact but can't find any wiring diagrams to check. Any ideas gratefully received.

I inherited a dux airheat system when I purchased this house in early 2016
The system was registered in 2009
I never ever hear a noise from it
I have continuous hot water
But
I have never noticed the fan working

Should I be concerned ?

Fan does not work all the time but when it is heating water it should be going. Probably best to get it serviced given age but in our view Dux products are poor quality and getting service help from them is worse.

I had an sparky here since I posted this and we decided that since it heats water we will leave it alone
In the 2 years I’ve lived here the fan has never moved
And given its age it appears to be doing well
Thank you for your response

You need to turn the temperature modulation valve, turn it anticlockwise all the way out, . This valve mixes hot water and cold water to give a safe temperature

We've got a Dux heat pump which was installed in September 2010, so it's getting on for 7.5 years old.

We had no problems till recently, when there was a noise like a fan hitting something. Dux recommended a plumber who advised over the phone to tie the fan electrical cable to the grid cover above it as it had fallen down.

I did that and we've had no "fan" noise since. What concerns me is that we've had no compressor noise at all since I tied the cable. Yet the water is still heating.

I also find the RMC Valves dribble for a long time if I test them (I've never liked doing this as I've found it's a problem on almost any HWS), but I can usually fix this by tapping the valve lightly with a hammer.

However they may have to be replaced soon.

My main concern at the moment is why is there no noise at all from the unit, and yet it still heats the water.

Other than that we're not having an issue at the moment.

It is probably running on the backup element heater so would be costing you 3-4 times more to run.

Hi Geoff. It depends on setting. Ours got to a point where it would run constantly. I recommend stay away from this product. Look up hydrotherm hot water. We replaced our with this system at cheaper price. It works awesomely and water is actually hotter. We highly recommend it.

Mine is doing the same - have you found a solution by any chance?

Rob
Rob

Thank you for your replies. The solution, according to my local hot water person, is to convert it to a normal electric hotwater system. It is possible to do it with this model for about $180. He said it is not worth repairing as an air pump system, too expensive, and may break down again. So I am going to convert it.

I have the model stated, all around the condensate overflow hose at the top of the unit, water is running down the side of the system onto the ground, I have disconnected the hose and it is clear so the condensate drain is not blocked. Why is the water running all down the side or the system. No rain contributing ?

1 answer
Andy
Andy

Hi, I have the same problem. It's a crappy design issue. The drain hole for the condensation is in a crap position and also blocks up super quick and so the condensation generated by the heat pump just runs out over the top. There's not much you can do unless you want to remove the top every month or so and try to clean it out.

I have a Dux Aeroheat that has just started leaking - looks like a slow drip through the bottom where the power wire accesses the internals. Rusty water along the bottom seam. Surprise surprise it has just ticked over 5 years old. The one this one replaced was over 20 years old. It seems to be common that these things fail at just over 5 years. Surely choice or someone should look into this company? It cost me just under $4000 in 2011 and I don't have that sort of money lying around every 5 years. Can someone recommend a reliable replacement?

Sounds like it is cactus, have had a bunch of water heaters pack up in my life and this is a symptom when this happens. Up to you ultimately but the plumber will probably tell you to ditch it go with a more reputable brand which will generally be a couple hundred dollars more.

Hi, I've spoken to two other people who are having similar problems and they informed me they also had to get a refrigeration person to come out also for similar issues as yours.
I'd be contacting DUX and expliaining the issue although, the service I received was useless!

When you look down through the fan on the top do you have any lights flashing in the box?The box is an orange colour which has three led lights. My sensors blew in the first 2 weeks and had to get a whole new system installed under warranty!

If you turn off the cold water input to the tank does the water stop coming through the drain? If it stops, then you have a leaking tank and you have no choice but to replace the whole tank.

scott withers
scott withers

yes it does stop the water comeing out the top drain, how much would a tank replacement cost.?

Philip
Philip

As I am just a consumer like you, I'm sorry I cannot give you any idea. Do some research on the internet. You will have to get a few quotes from plumbing companies who would be willing to do the replacement. The Bunnings website
https://www.bunnings.com.au/dux-250l-airoheat-heat-pump-hot-water-system_p5102926
shows a direct replacement of the system is $2999 excluding installation cost. So I don't know how much the tank alone will cost.
It may be more economical in the long run to replace the whole system with a different make. I'm in NSW and have just replaced my leaking DUX airoheat with a similar capacity system but which has much better consumer reviews for a total of $3850.

More details are needed to give you a relevant answer.
How old is your system?
Is the noise from the heat pump system on top of the tank or the tank itself? Are you able to describe the noise - a recording would be good.
Under what conditions does the noise happen?

desleymunck
desleymunck

HI It is a Dux Aeroheat D2FH00000C 258 Ltr and the noise is coming from the top section that sits above the tank. The noise is constant and the motor runs continously. It would only come on I assumed when the system was heating but we had a big rain a week or so ago and the system began to play up. Firstly, hot water was continuously coming out of a copper pipe that is above a drain. The electrician came out and replaced the relief valve I think. Since then the section on top has run continuously. I will try to send you sound recording but I'm not sure how to attach it here. The year on the system is 01/04/2009.

Philip
Philip

Have you found a solution to the problem? The compressor/fan should stop running once the water has reached the set temperature. If it didn't stop running it indicates a problem with the sensor or the controller itself. Since the unit is now 7 yrs old, it won't be surprising that could be the issue, seeing the problems that others have been reporting with this model. My unit is 1 yr younger than yours and the controller board was replaced within a few months of installation. Although the compressor worked flawlessly since the board replacement, the tank started leaking a couple of months ago. When the tank was drained, there was a lot of rust and sludge that came out. I've replaced the whole system.

2 hot logic boards and a replacement fan and now I notice a water leak from the bottom of the unit. The unit was installed in 2008. This is unacceptable Dux. What is this going to cost me? This appear to be a problem many have experienced here. I think Dux needs to replace these units at their cost or they may be sufficient reasons for a class action law suit. Do the right thing Dux. i'm keen for a class action, mine just **** itself not even 5 years old, nothing left under warranty except if the whole tank splits and then i still have to pay for the labour and installation if it needs to be replaced!

I'm up for this action I had my post removed because I told it as it is just a crappy dux product

I will be in on a class action. Our system is only two years old and has been nothing but trouble. There is no hot water yet again because of the faulty pilot light.... grrrr

I've had one of the recommended service guys come out to look at my dux airoheat service and apparently there needs to be a new board 3202 installed which will cost about $465. The system is about 7 years old. I haven't had any problems with it previously until I found it not working after returning from holidays and my clipsal power switch was off and even after switching on the hot water didn't come on. Is it worthwhile getting it fixed or should I be looking at a new system?

Hi James,

If you have turned the power back on then it should automatically start up. Not starting up indicated the hot water system has faulted - causing it to trip the power.
If you contact Dux on 1300 365 115 - option 2 we can advise you further.

One negative with these units, apart from the fact that the tanks that do not last much past their warranty, and Dux is no where to be seen to offer any sort of assistance let alone a discount on a replacement, is that they can not be left on while the household is on holidays for long periods, unless you have house sitter using hot water.
