Another terrific Dyson vac
Great vacuum. This is our second Dyson and wouldn't go with any other brand. We purchased the barrel style as it is easy to manoeuvre around the house and the furniture. Has great suction and power.

GOTTA LOVE THE DYSON
I am on my second Dyson vacuum in 13 years
I loved my first Dyson and had to purchase another after it finally died with many, many hours of use
This time I purchased a timber floor connection that slides so easily on the timber and picks up the dirt much easier than using the tile connection, I didn't really think it would make a difference using a different connection but it does it doesn't push the dirt away it sucks brilliantly
I also love the bagless barrel just a flick and the compartment drops down to empty
The Dyson seems to be getting better with every model I didn't think they could but they are less noisy with more suction
I do recommend the Dyson by far a more outstanding vacuum

Amazing vacuum for carpets with pets
Amazing vacuum. Have owned for a few years and had other brands previously which weren't doing a very good job and very heavy or zapping with electrical shocks. Dyson Allergy is so easy to whiz around, perfect on carpet and rugs. I have 2 ragdoll cats inside and works perfectly. Only annoying feature is emptying but u will have an annoying feature with anything. Keep in mind ppl are more inclined to take the time to whinge than write a positive review.

HAve I missed Something!
I have owned a Dyson on a number of occasions the latest was a DC05 that just kept going and going until it finally gave up the ghost.
I then bought a "u beaut" European Vacumm with powerhead and all. Turned out to be the biggest heap of crap and will never set foot in a Godfreys again.
Went back to Dyson with the DC54 and find it to be just as good as the other one I had. Except no washing of filters etc etc etc. I just unhook it go to the rubbish bin open the drop door and it is empty. Every so often I will pull it apart and clean with a br...Read more

Preferred my $50 vacuum from Kmart
My mum had an older model Dyson ehich was excellent. I decided to spend the extra money nd purchase a Dyson as I have dogs that spend a fair bit of time inside. I dont understand why you should have to BUY a multi- floor head, or any additional head for that matter, when you havr already spent close to $800 on a vacuum cleaner.
The carpet tool does not pickup anything bigger then a speck of dust off the carpet, it simply flings everything across the room and the hard floor tool pushes everything around and doesn't actually suck it up.

I bought this vacuum close to 3 years ago and have had it sitting in the corner as I prefer my $50 vacuum from Kmart. I would not recommend Dyson to ANYONE and will not be wasting my money on nother one.2 comments
There is no blockage. Just a terrible vacuum cleaner. As 90% of other users on this site have acknowledged. But thanks anyway.

So Disappointed
I owned a Dyson DC05 for around 10 years and probably raved about it so much around 10 of my friends also bought one, however, I replaced it with the DC 54 and it drives me crazy. It always blocks in one of the bends that you can't access to clear it. I have spent so many hours trying to keep this clear and I now see Dyson has discontinued this machine. I am about to go and get another vacuum cleaner and unfortunately won't be getting another Dyson.

Don't waste your money
Absolutely terrible, This is my second Dyson, i bought a new one after giving my daughter my old one. What a mistake, you cant empty it without getting filthy and dust all over you, and its continuously falling over. The dust collector is smaller as well. Worst appliance i have ever purchased.Loved my old one, but certainly will not be buying anymore Dyson vacuums

The Good Guys are Bad Guys
Went to the Good Guys to see what prices they had for Miele vacuums as I hate bagless vacs. The woman that approached me totally sucked me into buying a Dyson DC54, and I mean she absolutely hammered me to buy this vacuum. Even yelling in the store in front of other customers what a great vac and price it was. Before purchasing it she said if I'm not happy with it I can return it no questions asked. I asked her more than a few times if this is true and she said I can absolutely, to bring it back if I'm not happy with it and receive a full refun...Read more
d. I took it home and used it straight away and it couldn't even suck crumbs from my kitchen floor! then it will suck in intervals. I was so mad! Absolutely useless vacuum. I returned it to the store the next day and they were not only super rude but they tested it out and said because there was nothing wrong with it I could not return it. They looked and treated me like a complete idiot even though I told her what the woman said. Not only have I spent $700 of hard earned money, I am stuck with this crappy vac. waiting for it to die and will NEVER shop at the good guys again as this was the second time I have had problems with them. Awful! So disappointed with Dyson product
I bought this vacuum cleaner under duress. I didn't like Dyson in the past because they had so many individual floor tool attachments which I thought was painful given so many models have floor tools that go from hard floor to carpet all in the one attachment. However they seem to be the big thing in vaccum cleaners and I thought they would have surely improved. I was wrong! It just doesn't suck things up! Since when does a vaccum cleaner only suck minuscule particles of dirt and dust and not a decent sized crumb that falls from the dinner t...Read more
able?! The holes at each end of the hose where it connects are not even round!! They are oblong and every larger piece of anything gets stuck which means you have to stop machine, detach every single part and fish out whatever it is that blocked it up! I complained to Dyson about their awful product and was given a hard floor tool (yes another floor tool!) which I was told was simply wonderful, but like every other part of the machine it just pushes dirt along in front of it, eventually sucking most but not all of it up. Did I mention that it has trouble on rugs? It can't suck up my dogs hair from our rug. It seems to be OK on my wool carpet, so therefore I didn't give it a 1 star. I can't believe th money I spent on this thing. Outrageous! I will NEVER again touch a Dyson with a ten foot bargepole!!! Did I mention, I had a brilliant Electrolux before this?! Just saying.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

I love that this product is now discontinued? I wonder why?
The DC 54 struggles to pick up cotton or threads off carpet and will not suck up anything that is close to the skirting. On tiles the foot spinner spins the things it should pick up straight out the back and past you, even if you pull the lever up the top to stop it spinning it goes over and over the same piece of debris without picking it up, it is not blocked, this is a major design fault as my last Dyson foot and machine worked very well, I would love for someone to replace the foot with a newer better design or money back, this machine does not do what it is intended for!

Worse than a $50 Aldi vacuum!
OMG. Is this really Dyson?? Isn't a vacuum invented to suck dirt, dust & debris of your floors n carpets? Umm well this thing doesn't do that AT ALL, tho it's called a vacuum (so much for allergy control pheww), in-fact it picks some harder things and flings them at you, nearly got glass in my eye

Not for allergic people
I have bought this vacuum cleaner 1 year ago. Our family moved to a house with carpets and we are very allergic to dust. I was expecting this item to do the job cleaning carpets, but it does not. Some dust goes in, but hair and small dirt stays. I have to go several times over the same spot to try to get rid if it. The corners and sides remain dirty. Have to switch from carpet head to smth else. Very inconvenient. That means I spend much more time on vacuuming. The worst part is cleaning the item. The box openes not wide. Have to use hands to t...Read more

To empty the bin, we recommend to take the bin off the machine and open it over a garbage bin. The bulk of the dust and debris will fall from the bin. If you find debris caught in the trap door, you can use the combination tool to hold the trap door open and give it a gentle tap out. If you are having trouble removing debris from the shroud, you can remove the clear bin to make this easier. To do this, open the bin like you were going to empty it normally, then press the silver button between the two red rods and you’ll be able to remove the clear bin from the cyclone. Once the clear bin is removed it will make it easier to clean the bin flap as well. You can then also use the combination tool (with brush extended) to brush any debris off the shroud. We recommend the debris doesn’t fill over the red max line. If it does, it will make the machine significantly harder to empty. Whilst the machine doesn't have a capacity as large as previous Dyson machines, your DC54 has no filters to wash or replace. If we can be of any further assistance, please don't hesitate to reply by email or call us on 1800 239 766. Our helpline is open Monday to Friday 8am - 6pm and over the weekend from 8:30am - 4pm. Very Happy
Previous vacuum was DC 20 Stowaway 10 years.......New allergy barrel only used once for 30 minutes today.....2 storey townhouse 50/50 carpet/timber floors. I'm very impressed......I think Dyson have made a huge leap forward...... Hopefully after a year I'll be just as happy....Not that Dyson barrel vacs have ever let me down.

Motor failed just outside warranty
* The motor has failed just outside the two year warranty period, accompanied by the smell of burning plastic. Used only once a fortnight or less.
* Not as well constructed as previous models
* The felt pad running around the edges of the suction head has come away
* Suction is very good
* Fiddly & awkward to empty, low capacity.
* I prefer the earlier models - they will last much longer. Stay with your old Dyson ir buy a used one in preference to this. It is worth the trouble of cleaning the filters every 6 months with the previous models

Dyson disappoints
Someone who doesn't do the vacuuming has designed this vacuum cleaner. It's hopeless to empty. Dust goes everywhere, even when you empty it over the bin. And dog hair, human hair, threads etc get caught up high and I use a knife to scrape them out. I've now worked out how to remove the clear barrel but it's messy, clumsy and not simple. I wouldn't recommend this vacuum to anyone.

Terrible machine, dyson not making them like they used to!
Purchased dc54 Allergy nearly 2 years ago and nothing but trouble! It does not seem to pick up as well and find myself having to get a screwdriver out to undo and remove stuff stuck every time I vacuum!! Not good enough given the price and when I mentioned this to customer service my advise was that I should have checked the size of the inlet duct on purchase! My previous Dyson from the 90's worked a charm for 10 years but now would not buy another Dyson.

Good vacuum cleaner but messy
After 1 year using Dyson DC54, I wish I should've bought a bagged vacuum cleaner. Emptying the dust can be a messy process especially when it's full. I would prefer to pay $8/bag every 3 months rather emptying dust bin every 2 weeks.
Good thing is suction still strong even bin is full.

Piece of Rubbish
This product is rubbish. I purchased it 12 months ago. The Dyson is awkward to use and doesn't clean any better than my old bagless cleaner which I kept. The brush head needs to be continuously cleaned otherwise it clogs up and fails to rotate. It also tilts over quite easily contrary to its claims. It is also awkward to use on tiles. As for emptying the cleaner, the arrangement could not have been designed any worse - clumsy and fiddly. This product does not represent value for money

After Sales Service Perfect
Hi Everyone, thought my Dyson was not working - Chris at Dyson was a dream:
Problem no sucking spitting out dirt and screaming at me noise that is.
Solution - Blockage in head
One coin 10 cents or 20 cents at the end of the head
undone pulled brush out
Voila there was dirt stuck all around a crayon that had become lodged.
Removal is sucking like a dream - Dyson is wonderful again.
So easy to fix - Hope this has helped a lot of people.

Sorry for getting back a bit late but I’d say take it to dyson as it’s very unusual for it to just stop. And are you sure u didn’t smell anything odd before it stopped ? Check with dyson and good luck with it all i hope this will help you thanks.
Delwynasked
My Dyson DC54 still has suction but the rotating brush no longer rotates. I've checked for blockages and that's not the issue. Is this just a problem with the head - which I can replace - or something more sinister.
1 answer
Dyson Team ..Dyson
Hi Delwyn,
Thanks for your question.
This issue can be caused by a blockage of airflow which reduces the suction.
Please check the turbine head for blockages as shown here: http://www.dyson.com.au/support/dc54/dc54-animal/my-machine-is-not-working/turbine-head-not-working-properly
Please check the machine for blockages as shown here, please pay close attention to the section 50 seconds in, this part can be tested by dropping a 20 cent coin through the lower duct hose starting near the oval opening on the main body, behind the bin, if the coin does not come out, tip the machine over to get your coin out then proceed with the instructions in the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PheQ00a_urU
If this does not resolve the issue please reach out at [email protected] and we will be happy to help you further.
Best wishes,
