Animal Pro, Multi Floor, Animal, etc...Vacuum Cleaners Buying Guide
Our buying guide will explain which type of vacuum cleaner would suit you most, how much you can expect to pay for one, and which features are worth looking out for.
Bought this vacuum on reputation, let down.
Bought the animal pro ball, 6 months after the warranty ran out it seems the motor has blown, when i have gone in to speak to the vacuum people at the shop they tell me it is a common factor with the dyson and they are not made to live long past the warrantee, this place even sold dyson, he said the only thing dyson are good at is advertising. Shame on me for not doing my research.

This vacuum cleaner is fantastic.
Highly recommend any Dyson product. They definitely are a great machine. It cleans our carpet perfectly. We have a dog that sleeps Inside every night and I vacuum most days it still works great and we have had it over 3 years. The head on it might need to be replaced soon but that is simply due to wear and tear. When we do need another vacuum down the track we will alway go with a Dyson. My mum has one of the old purple and lime green ones it would have to be 10 or more years old and it still works great! Funky colours too lol.

Dyson says that dust killed my machine
My 3.5 year old DC54 has been used on hard floors only (we have no carpet). We kept the old vacuum for the garage and mess, and the Dyson has never been used for anything other than the house, no plaster dust or anything. It was the worst vacuum ever. Hair used to get tangled all the time and we had to buy a packet of wooden skewers so we could grab the dirt and hair or else it would not come out. The various heads are stored in an annoying spot so they interfere with where I want to put my hand. I had to take them off each time (and misplace t...Read more
hem half the time). One day it made a funny sound and a stinky burning smell. Took it to Dyson who said that it was caused by dust clogging up the mechanism and that we hadn't cleaned it properly. IMHO a vacuum cleaner that can't handle dust is quite a low-quality one. Tried to call them to discuss this, waited 45 minutes on hold (all the while listening to their spiel about how the wonderful design, apparently it oscillates so fast that dust can't accumulate). Gave up in disgust. We went overseas on a holiday shortly afterwards, and we told them we would be away. On our return three weeks later I got an sms reminding me to pay. I tried again to call and there was no answer on one number and an unacceptable wait on another. I finally paid by direct deposit as the credit card phone number wasn't picking up. A few days later the machine was returned to us unrepaired, so they must have despatched it the same day they sent the reminder. Great service, Dyson. I now have to call and wait and wait and wait to fight for my money back. Awesome. I have just bought a Miele Blizzard CX1 bagless and it is awesome. Easy to empty! Accessories are well placed. Will never buy Dyson again.2 comments

Absolutely crap will never buy a Dyson again.
Brought the Dyson cinetic big ball animal pro 2 years ago, cost about $1000. Worst vacuum I have ever used, hair continues to get tangled in the head, the bucket that catches the dirt constantly falls open when trying to empty.
I have had two Dyson vacuums over the past 15 years once apon a time I would never suggested any other. Now after the experience with the animal pro I will never recommend or buy another Dyson again. If I could afford to buy another brand I would!

Do not buy this product
After 3 years of normal operation the vacuum cleaner made a 'bang' and started smoking. It now no longer works and is dangerous. After numerous correspondence and complaints to Dyson, it refuses to fix this problem despite me having proof of purchase and rights to a guarantee under the Australian Consumer Law. I complained about this to Consumer Affairs Victoria, who told me to take Dyson to VCAT. Be warned. Do not buy this product. Do not buy a Dyson.
UPDATE: After bringing this situation to the attention of Betta Home Living, where the product was purchased, they gave me a brand new Dyson and a bottle of wine. Thank you Betta and I wish you better luck than I in dealing with Dyson.

Unfriendly design
This vacuum seems like an exercise in design, with absolutely no thought given to servicability or to the user. It looks stylish, but is not user friendly. It has the worst suction of any vacuum I have ever used. I find myself chasing dirt around the floor or vacuuming the same area twice each time. It's basically a noisy and ungainly sweeping brush!
It doesn't lend itself to following you around the house, as it tends to fall over if you do anything but travel in straight lines.
The turbo head stopped working after two months, leading me to...Read more

Good vacuum cleaner. Done a good job for years, but requires regular maintenance to work well.
I noticed there are heaps of negative reviews for this vacuum cleaner...and seeing as it's discontinued, maybe they'll be showing up on gumtree etc so still worth reviewing at this late stage.
This vacuum has been used in a 4 and 5 bedroom house for 3.5 years generally once a fortnight, fully carpeted except the food preparation and eating areas. I don't use it on the tiled areas, but others have.
On carpet with the turbo head, it does a great job. Suction appears great, and it will easily lift rugs while they're being vacuumed. White d...Read more
og hair is picked up very well from our carpet, and I don't think it flicks dust around like most of the other reviews mention. Seems to pick up a large amount of dirt in the carpet. For a vacuum though, its very high maintenance. The head requires cleaning after each vacuuming session, and the dust canister requires emptying pretty much after every room depending on dust and dirt levels. There is a red line on the canister and the vacuum performs noticeably worse when there is too much dust above that line. The turbo head also requires cleaning after each session...generally to remove hair that has wrapped around it. Thankfully it's easy to pull apart. It came with a tangle free head as well, but I couldn't be bothered using that to get the hair, then go over the carpet again with the normal head. The worst part of the vacuum is that fact the dust canister was obviously designed by someone who doesn't vacuum. Its holds so little, and it's so hard to clean the dust and dirt out. The little rubber brush thing that is meant to help is annoying to use and it's pretty much impossible to empty without getting some dust on yourself ...even if covering the whole thing in a plastic bag first. Everything else pulls apart easily for cleaning, why not this?Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Overrated and bagless is too much hassle
One of the reasons we went for the DC54 Allergy was to minimize the exposure to dust and allergens. Unfortunately while it does a reasonable job on the sucking, it sucks at doing the emptying. There is virtually no way to avoid dust getting all over a plastic bag, rubbish bin, or the outside of the dust container. If you have people with long hair in the family, then these will get caught around the inside of the barrel and be difficult to remove. For the hassle free nature of bagged, I would go that direction for my next cleaner.

Dyson Falls Over On My Polished Floors
Wow so glad this is discontinued this Dyson use to tip over all the time on me. I mean all the time on my polished floors finely upgraded to the Dyson Animal Pro. Witch corrects it self when it falls over and when things use to get stuck in bag bit I use to have to get a screw driver and get it out that way how annoying.

A Decent overrated Vacuum cleaner
We are happy with our Dyson in general. We purchased the Vacuum with the view it looks great and bagless seem to be the go but after 6 months of use we soon regret it. The Dyson Vacuum in fact is very hard to clean being bagless and dust go everywhere when you need to empty it. If you do not empty it immediately it stink the next time you open it. It was an expensive investment so we live with it for now but next time I will go with bagged vacuum.

Dyson for the win!
I got the base model and I exchanged the head with turbo head. I love this model, it sucks up everything in its way. I have had it for 3 years and it has never broken down on me once. I also bought the dyson car attachments and it works well to suck up dirt in difficult places. I really recommend dyson for your vacuum cleaner!

Regretful buy
I wish I did more research on this vacuum before purchasing it! I use to have a older Dyson which I loved and lasted 12years. So I thought, yes. I will purchase another Dyson. What a mistake I made, I can't stand this piece of junk. It's awarkward to empty and clean around the filter. After I have finished vacuuming and have to redo it, as I find it hadn't sucked everything up from the floorboards, even though I know I went over that area. There never seems to be much suction, even though I know nothing is blocked. Please stay away from this vacuum

Best vacuum cleaner I’ve ever owned.
Easy to maneuver and to get under things like the fridge without having to bend too much. Fairly quiet. I’ve been using this vacuum cleaner for about 3.5 years and it still works perfectly. So strong and works well every time. Doesn’t take yo too much space in the cupboard.

Overpriced
We purchased this vacuum after having issues with cheaper vacuums. We thought if we bought a premium vacuum, that we would get a quality product. We were very disappointed. This vacuum feels very cheap and has trouble cleaning our floors. We had better results from vacuum cleaners at a fraction of the price

Awesome!!
Performance and ability to maneuver are awesome and does it with ease. Although the suction ability is incredible and best in any vacuum I've ever used. Also when you use this vacuum you won't believe what it collects and will be pleasantly surprised how good it does it's job. Anyway awesome vacuum, get one.

Turbo head not working
I bought DC 54 Allergy Barrel Vacuum cleaner in Aug 2015. This is my first Dyson product and I was impressed with its powerful motor and efficiency in cleaning the carpets. Based on my initial experience, I recommended this product to my family and friends who have had similar good experiences using it.
However, the Turbo head of my vacuum started playing up around May 2017 and I followed all the troubleshooting tips on your website but to no avail. It is not spinning when I switch on the vacuum and there is no blockage in any of the pipes.

What a disappointment.
After a few months suction was poor. Only received on floor tool so carpets were never really clean. Not as easy to manoeuvre as i had hoped. Would fall over without too much effort. Vinyl & tile floors were very difficult to clean. Had to chase bits to catch them. On board tools fell off from day 1.

Still waiting on hold
Purchased a DC54 a few years ago. Have been happy enough but the handle broke. So thought I'd just order a new one. Went online and it says I have to call. Am on hold now - 20 mins and still waiting. Your reviews are atrocious - you'd think you'd save face by answering calls!!!
EDIT: 25 mins and they hung up without speaking to me. Great job Dyson!!

Wouldnt be without a Dyson
The brush on this vac sucks everything up. We never have to worry about our pup coming inside and shedding. All we have to do it go along the carpet with the DC54. With all the attachment its also great to vaccum out the 4x4 and camper when we return from big trips out in the bush. Still going strong 5 years later.

Will brush head off dc26 FITB my dc54

Dyson Team ..Dyson
The DC26 and DC54 machines share the same type of connector, so any accessories that came with your DC26 will fit the DC54. That being said, we would encourage using the cleaner head that came with each machine. This is as they are each optimised for the type of machine they came with. While they will fit across both machines, the performance may not be optimal.
If we can assist further, our Dyson Experts are available via [email protected] and happy to help.

If your machine is experiencing a loss of suction, we would kindly ask you to run through the checks outlined here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PheQ00a_urU
These should help get your Dyson DC54 back up and running as it should do, however if not, or if we can assist further, please email [email protected] and our Dyson Experts will be in touch and happy to provide further assistance.

Please be assured the Cyclones for the DC54 are the same across the DC54 range with the colour being the only difference. There would be no issue swapping the cyclones as long as they are Genuine Dyson DC54 Parts.
