Bottom Mount Freezer
B/Mount Freezer model, not as much room inside as a top freezer model of the same size, Had problem with door sealing however F&P sent a serviceman and fixed the problem. Door had not been aligned properly on manufacture. Had F&P previously with good results, they can be a little noisy at times.

Pretty good but my 14 year old equivalent had better storage space
My older 14 year old equivalent had to be replaced so I'm comparing it to what I had. It works great, love the the internal light has moved to the front and the temperature adjustments are now much easier to access too. I also like the "fast freeze" and "bottle chill" options. I could not find any other brand that has the same storage capacity with these dimensions.
Now the bad, I'm really disappointed that the fridge and freezer doors are now on rollers as this has eaten away some storage space. Having the perspex doors in the freezer makes...Read more
the fridge REALLY noisy when it is cooling down, my solution to that is to place some no slip mats on the bottom of the doors to reduce vibration which seems to be the main cause of the noise. Overall, I would still recommend it though.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Cannot be faulted
Bought for holiday house. An excellent fridge which has suited our needs well. Very spacious and efficient to open, store, access all areas including the freezer. Very quiet, maintains excellent temperature throughout and keeps all food perfectly. Just as economical as the next model down. We have owned the previous model for over ten years without a hitch.

Not Bad
We have had this fridge for about 6-7 months, bought from hardly normal. At first I was skeptical of an upside down as I have a sore back, but I got used to it. The fridge works perfect crisper/vege compartment works outstanding without fault, and has ample room for a medium family. We are in a house with a high ceiling and we hardly hear it at all
Easy clean
The freezer it just ok, at first I liked the ice tray area but then I found it a problem as it loses space for freezing for other more essential items,ie- bread and frozen veggies
We are going shopping more often to buy things that just don't fit,
Freezes perfect and the beeper is pretty much standard on all things fridge
Cheers

Poor Quality
1st one they delivered was keeping my neighbours up at night. 2nd one they delivered has a faulty door that has a bump when closing the door. Also noisy. Customer service is good but the product has poor workmanship. I asked for a refund but they declined and are sending a technician to fix the door. I want a new fridge not a repaired fridge.

Horrible
I have a bottom mount fridge.
This fridge is such a disappointment. The worst thing is it stops 6 cm from fully closed (I was told this is the pivot point), this means you have to slam it for it to shut properly.
I dislike the glass shelves as you always have to clean them, they don't but up to the back of the fridge, so the actual capacity of the fridge is less than you pay for.
It is very noisy and the items in my freezer have an ice build up after a week or so.

First and last time I buy a product from Fisher & Paykel
I bought this Fisher & Paykel fridge e522ble4 on 9/12/2014. It completely stopped working on Wednesday 12/08/2015, 9 months later after the purchase.
I live in Melbourne CBD, and it took 1 month of putting pressure on the Fisher & Paykel customer care before a Fisher & Paykel technician came only to diagnose the problem with the fridge. It was a faulty gas compressor and it could not be repaired on the spot. Just judging how quick this fridge failed after a very average use and how overbooked Fisher & Paykel customer care seems to be, I think that the reliability of their fridges is extremely low.

Good fridge overall
The first one I purchased had a very noisy motor. F&P were very good at coming straight out and trying to fix it but a few days later it was noisy again. F&P immediately replaced the fridge. This one also had a slightly noisy motor so F&P came out again and found the motor had been slightly displaced during delivery. It was easy to fix. The fridge is now very quiet. It is well designed and I would recommend it. The F&P customer service was excellent.

Recall. In Australia there is a recall on this model built in 2006 2007. Could have fire in freezer.
Contact Fisher & Paykel for free service. All 522B models built between 2006 2007 have been recalled because of fire hazard. Check recall notice for serial nos. We have Owned fridge since 2007. I'm still waiting to be contacted. This has been an excellent fridge. Especially the cool water feature. But of cause not happy about recall, also not being notified & finding out by accident.

Nice fridge which initially was noisey, but after some adjustment we have a quieter fridge
Have only had this fridge for a week now. Replaced our old Westinghouse because the seals were going & it was too noisy! We love the bottom mount aspect of this fridge, the digital settings, & the pull out veggie drawer/crisper, but it does get noisy at times - the motor starts shaking/buzzing for about 20 minutes or so, then it quietens down again for a while. It goes in cycles with its noise. Because it is in the middle of the house, not a big house & mostly open plan, I feel I can hear it nearly everywhere. Its driving me crazy as this was ...Read more
the reason why we replaced the old fridge, because I couldn't stand the noise! One month later - We have now adjusted the height (unscrewing little feet at the bottom of fridge) at the front of the fridge which has reduced the noise level, it looks like it slightly tilts back. So giving it another star as its much quieter now.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

So happy
After over a year of struggling with the previous purchase finally I could afford to replace it. We have had the F&P for about 10 days and it answers all my requirements. The interior lights up well, the shelves and drawers are accessible & it seems very spacious despite being on paper the same size as the old one.
I was advised to leave the temperature on the factory settings and they seem just right.
There were some issues with the delivery subcontractors and when I contacted the store, the sales rep offered to come and double check the installation for me.

Handle breaking off
Door handle broke off at the bottom after a few years of gentle use. Clearly a manufacturing defect: a piece of cheap cast iron used to connect an expensive stainless steel handle.

Great replacement fridge/freezer
We had a Simpson Fridge/freezer 522 litre for 22 years without any problems and still going. We replaced it with the FnP french doors recently but was not going when delivered. Luckily, we changed to this FnP BRE522 unit instead. It is a perfect replacement with heaps of space than the french doors, very quiet, excellent lighting, good freezer drawers, easy cleaning and very practical. Certainly, well recommended though it is still in our early stage of possession. Hopefully it will be as reliable as our last one. Will update much later on its performance. Meantime we are very pleased with this unit.

Great fridge/freezer
Not actually sure which model without searching for the book, bought 3 months ago. We were actually looking for a fridge with a top-mount freezer but this was the only one in our price range with two fruit/veg bins. Saves standing there pulling out salad items one by one with the door open - grab the whole lot easily. Very pleased with the purchase and love being able to see properly into the fridge - less food wasted as you don't have to almost turn upside down to see what's at the back of the bottom shelf!. It's doing its job beautifully and no noise to speak of except what you normally expect from a self defrosting appliance.

The absolute worst, 3 fridges later and it still isn't right.
I had this fridge given to me as a gift 12 months ago. The first fridge was purchased from a Harvey Norman outlet and did not work, it just would not produce any cool air. I was told by Harvey Norman I would have to wait a week for a new one. After dealing with Harvey Norman who were pathetic, I received a new E522BRX4 and the middle freezer tray was broken and it had a giant scratch on the front panel. As a week had passed Harvey Norman no longer took responsibility and I had to contact Fisher and Paykel for a new fridge again (number 3). Fish...Read more
er and Paykel sent out a new fridge which is working but ridiculously loud. Every 5 minutes it rattles. I downloaded an app to test the sound and it reaches 60 decibels +. I havn't even bothered contacting them about this issue as I don't expect it will get any better. I had to jump hoops witch customer service and bug them for 2 months to pay for the cost of all the food I lost, which was about $500. Fisher and Paykel customer service did send a $200 cheque to their credit. But I did have to send in photos and list all the brands and prices of the products I had bought as I don't keep receipts for longer than two weeks. Overall I would not recommend this particular fridge, in saying that past Fisher and Paykel products have been quite good but I will not purchase any of their fridges ever again.Similar opinion? Well made, good looking appliance
Had this fridge for about 3-4 months now and so far, mainly happy with it. We got the white version rather than the stainless steel since it better suited the kitchen - it is easy to clean, and sitting in its own alcove seems pretty quiet. The solid glass shelves make it easy to see what is under or over items, relatively easy to clean (you still have to move things around) and if you do have a spill, it doesn't go to the bottom of the cabinet. In the tropical climate, it has taken a while to settle down with the temperature settings but the...Read more
fruit and veg seem to be keeping better longer from day 1 - nice surprise. Drawbacks 1./ The freezer door must be full open before the freezer drawers can be accessed. 2./ The bottom freezer drawer has this annoying little feature of sneakily open up with no assistance from anyone - this has caught me a couple of times as I close the door and it hits the freezer drawer. And while on the subject of drawers, the skinny one in the middle (we use it for ice - seems the only thing that will fit) will open and drag to bottom drawer with it every time. Could be a defect and will check in the stores for similar behaviour. 3./ There is a line of drops, (condensation?) on the bottom of the fridge compartment. If it doesn't go away, I suspect poor seal and get someone to check it out. 4./ With all its good points, I still think the non-closing door is a pain. Over the years, you get used to opening the door, getting what you want, push to door and let it close with no further attention/ This one, closes up to a point and stops. If you don't notice it, after a while it beeps at you. Other owners warned us about this and it seems this is a "Design Feature". 4./ EDIT :-Not the best idea in my opinion. 3 years later, we have broken 4 of these special hooks, replaced 2 then gave up. Door closes all the way now. 5./ Paint seems thin and of poor quality. It is wearing off already and there are several stains - in 3 years!Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

10 Years still going!
This fridge has been great, never any issues with it, everything always kept cold and fresh.
This model appears to be the base model which a lot of new E522BR versions have been built on, I see the shelf configurations change on the different models but not much else cosmetically. Easy to clean, very quite. I only replaced it as I wanted to upgrade to a very fancy new model with ice maker and other bells and whistles which fits our new kitchen. (No I'm not saying which one until I know if it performs or not). Fisher & Paykel get a big thumbs up for this fridge from me.

Been a fine fridge
Had opposite experience of the negative reviews here. This F&P model has been far better than my previous Westinghouse which was a shocker. I've had no problem with anything in the fridge freezing, or bumping my toe (LOL). I'm actually moving this downstairs and buying another F&P fridge for my renovated kitchen. And no, I have zero allegiance to F&P. I had a dryer from them that died within weeks of buying new.

Cheap fans, unreliable machine
This Fridge Freezer is a lovely looking unit but is totally unreliable.
There are fans in the freezer and the fridge which are part of the active smart system, unfortunately these fans are rubbish. The fans break down and cause the fridge to beep and the lights to flash (this normally happens at 2 in the morning and drives you mad)
The fans are very cheap about £30 but it costs about £120 in labour on top, which if they go every 2 years soon adds up.
Fisher Paykel know that they are no good because if you phone their service agent they...Read more
will tell you that the only thing that goes wrong is the fans so they carry them. Considering that fridge freezers are probably the most reliable kitchen item around then Fisher Paykel has excelled in producing this highly priced junk.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Hi,
I bought this fridge about 3 years ago. I have been very pleased with it ever since.
An alarm would sound to remind you that the door hasn't been properly shut but recently, as soon as you open the top door of the fridge it begins to beep continuously until you touch the active smart button inside the fridge or until you shut the door. This is abnormal. How can I correct this?

We keep having ice form behind the back panel of freezer and when this happens the freezer keeps working but the fridge does not stay cool.
We have the freezer set to warmest setting.
